I really struggled to come up with an accurate title for this thread. I thought it would be interesting to list a few things we've seen across the TF continuities. Not simply Megs Vs Optimus, that's a given. But the pairings, explanations and origins that seem to recur consistently were on my mind.
1. Shockwave having a hand in creation of the dinobots. Original Marvel, SL Shockwave (in response to shockwave) and Rage of Dinobots
2. Scorponok fighting Grimlock and turning Dinobots against him. Max Dinos, Regen 1
3. Megatron stranded on the planet of Junk. DW War Within, Monstrosity
I'm sure there are a million more, and much of it has to do with the roles/profession of each bot or Con. Some things are hard to get away from no doubt and many are worth a good revisit. _________________ My opinions are just that. 5. Optimus Prime dies frequently.
6. Grimlock has speech impediment and each time it's explained differently. _________________

Ratchet is a gumpy old doctor. G1, Animated, Prime and in the IDW comics. I don't recall him being grumpy in the Marvel comics there were times he was desprate but not so grumpy. The less I remember about Dreamwave comics the better I'll be.
Grimlock has a speech problem. "Me Grimlock" while in the comics he could be the Autobot version of Starscream. In the first two seasons of the orginal cartoon show he did show some smarts, in season 3 he's reduced to a joke which he has pretty much stayed in the other shows. While Fall of Cybertron did try to restore some of some of his orginal bad@$$ ness. _________________

"there but for the grace of Primus" (if you will) Megatron and Optimus could have been allies (Prime, IDW, "United"). _________________ Ohh 'Eck! |

Transformers "Tropes".
(( see: RID )) Okay, that was kind of unfair of me but there IS a grain of truth to it. Didn't we see Prowls 'revelation' in DOTM with Sentinel Prime? Check. Big build up to a climactic battle? Check. RID has a great premise, but I feel it's failing in the payoff. Anyhow, more TF "Tropes"
- Sniveling Starscream
- "never met a bot/ con I didn't like - let's get them all" (far too many TF characters have this "personality"
- Big, dumb character. Re: Bulhead, etc.
- Of course, Prime dying.
- TFTM 1986 "Homages" Re: Fall of Cybertron |

Thanks! Suggestion taken! And I'm hoping this thread will actually benefit writers in a constructive way. Hey, there may even be some already done things we'd love to see again but better. Keep them coming! _________________ My opinions are just that. If my context is missed due to colloquialism or cultural mix up, I'm reachable by PM and glad to get understanding. I know it's only really happened in IDW, but is "Punching Prowl" worth a toss into the hat? xD _________________

Dirge seems to die a lot as well. I'm going to assume that's why Barber went to such lengths to bring him back.
Megatron being presume dead and coming back, usually more powerful, has to be one, surely? Starscream even references it in the AHM coda _________________ MEET ME IN THE BASEMENT :: an online radio show, playing new and old indie rock type stuff. basically, great music and awkward periods of silence. Wow... is THAT done enough? presumed dead Marvel US #25, only to pop up in #56 'more powerful' by proxy via pretender Starscream. The Animated Movie. TF Prime with Dark Energon. After AHM as stealth Megs in the Costa run. No other leader in history has been missing for longer periods of time, and made more comebacks that Megatron.
The good thing about the -ations was his absence didn't have to be explained as 'missing, presumed dead'. He was simply at High Command and not in every single battle like Sunbow. It was one of the more realistic portrayals of a general. He even stated that it had been forever since he was in a battle, had even seen Prime, and was able to unleash all his power. _________________ My opinions are just that. I'd say Prowl leads all autobots with most physical altercations through 'friendly fire'. Springer, Ironhide, Silverbolt and now add Chromedome.
We'll need to add both Scorponok and Megatron to the 'let me reveal my entire plan to you bc I need you to revel in my brilliance and oh crap I've made this super underestimation of xyz and now what I've revealed to you will be my undoing'. Shockwave is much more tight lipped. (is it the lack of lips?) _________________ My opinions are just that. Megatron came back as galavtron 3 times in the unicron triology usually after being presumed dead _________________
