It's very rare that a comic inspires me to create alternative cover artworks but After the Fall did just that, so for old times sake I thought I'd repost the one a I made all that time ago...

Wow, these are amazing, Sue. Too bad they didn't ask you to make a cover for the Yearbook!

(Funny that you used a Dutch text for the Spike cover. I can't exactly tell what it's about but it doesn't sound very AtF-like. Let's just pretend it's some evil demon language Very Happy)

As an Illyria fan, all I can say really is "wow"! Than one kicks ass for sure!

(Double Dutchess, I don't read Dutch but trying to decode some of it, my sources being Norwegian and having had German in high school, it does look like just a random piece of text to me.)
(And Holland/Dutch is pure evil! Wink Atleast when it comes to speed skating on ice, if you're sportsinterested and from Norway, that is...)

OK, today I felt the nerd rise inside of me, so i zoomed in on the Spike tatto and tried to transcribe it. Here are the verses, [] means missing text;
... de aan het vel[...] ..
spoedig mogt
melden,
het vervoer ..
leveren ...
land van
werd an

(break of the tatto, and lower on the arm)
ban het ..

Now, the fun part: going to Google Translate, Dutch to English, and some guesses from my side on what to chose from Google's suggestions.

..on the paper...
might soon
declare,
the transport
deliver...
land ..
was an

ban the ...

Sounds a bit Biblical to me. Maybe it a verse from the Bible? So, unless sueworld can tell (or even remembers, since this was done "ages" ago) where this is taken from, that's what you've got to settle with.

Sadly I just picked that burnt pice of text texture from a stock image and didn't know what language it is, nor what It even says. Laughing It looked nice so thats why It was taken. If I could have found it in english I would have used that.

Glad you remember/like them guys.

Wish that season 8 had ended up inspiring me the same way.... Rolling Eyes

I just remembered something from the recent Q and A thread with Brian (page2).
So, sueworld: if you ever get the urge again to create smashing, good looking fan art for Angel, you knows what Brian would like to see! Wink

Q from angeliclestat
Quote:
Let's say in the morning I win 1 Billion dollars and finance a live-action movie trilogy adaptation of After the Fall and the Spike comics (which I would totally do:))...who would your ideal casting be of your original characters- Beck,Tok, Jeremy,Betta George, Burge, Burge's son, Kr'ph etc (The last 3 plus Betta George would be CGI, but who would provide the voices)?
And answer from Brian:
Quote:
Oh this is fun!

1. Beck - Summer Glau
2. Jeremy - Jim from THE OFFICE or Fran Kranz
3. Burge - Bill Nighy (did I spell that right?)
4. Son of Burge - Vinnie Jones
5. Kr'ph - Frank Welker
6. Betta George - Michael Keaton
Although, I think it would only be possible to do Beck and Jeremy. Personally, I would love to see Summer Glau as Beck!

A valiant attempt! I would read a few bits differently, though. "Spoedig mog[elijk] ... melden" means "report as soon as soon as possible" and then we get "het vervoer[middel]", "means of transport" and I think the last one is "aan het" ("on the") so there's no banning involved. To me it reads more like the terms of agreement of some boring contract, perhaps for car rental or something. This interpretation is supported by the lay-out (a bulleted list). All in all I'm pretty sure it's a terribly prosaic piece of text Very Happy

It does look nice, and that's what matters. It's probably better that it's not English, because this way most people won't know the content may not be entirely appropriate.

Let's remain optimistic: maybe S9 will!

OK, so the expert (Double Dutchess) has given the final verdict on the Spike tatto! Laughing
I surrender, it's a boring and mundane text (car-rental, really?).
But with Spike, even such things look good. As did the rest of sueworld's cover for that matter.

Well, the car rental thing is just a guess. It was fun to try and decipher the text, but I don't let its mundanity detract from my enjoyment of the cover. It's a wonderful counterpart to Tony Harris' Spike: AtF cover.

Hee, hee, maybe Spike has rented a car in the hell, some new Desoto, perhaps and then he has burn the contract.Very Happy And DD, I knew, you speak some demon languages! Laughing
Sue, I love your alternative covers, I’ve seen all of them before, but there was another ATF cover – Spike dressed in red, which was my favorite, but I don’t see it here. Wink
