In the new edition of ALEX RAYMOND'S JUNGLE JIM/FLASH GORDON (1934-1936), the pages from February 3, 1935 to July 7, 1935 were offerted by KFS to its client newspapers as two separate pages in a smaller, tabloid format. What is the intention of IDW about these pages? Kitchen Sink Press made the easier election: to use the two-thirds version but with the alteration of the original art. Please, make the best edition ever. 2/3 from January, 1934 to February, 1935; full page tabloid from February, 1935 to July, 1935; 2/3 from July, 1935 to April, 1944. |

Of course it will be available thru Amazon.
They haven't said when it will be released, hence why it doesn't show up yet. _________________ MB |

Dean Mullaney, editor of this Flash Gordon reprint series, has the answers:
"We are using the fulls for all of the run except for February-June 1935 when King Features tried the confusing tab format for all their comics part of 1935. For the tricky 1935, we're working from the Chicago Herald-American, one of the key Hearst papers. I have a complete bound volume of the year.
Here's what we're using for 1935:
January 1935: 2/3 Flash and 1/3 Jim
February 3 - March 17: Flash and Jim each as separate tabs
March 24 and 31: 2/3 Flash and 1/3 Jim
April 7 - June 16: Flash tabs
April 7 - May 12: There are no Jims
May 19 - June 16: Jim tabs
June 23 through end of the year: 2/3 Flash and 1/3 Jim" _________________ Kurtis Findlay

If we follow the book of Tom Roberts, "Alex Raymond: His Life and Art" (pages 36, 70 and 71), the distribution of the pages will be:
FLASH GORDON:
-February 3 to March 17: tab
-March 24 and 31: 2/3
-April 7 to May 12: tab
-May 19: 2/3
-May 26 to June 16: tab
-June 23 to July 7: 2/3
TOTAL: 23 = 17 tab + 6 2/3
JUNGLE JIM:
-February 3 to March 17: tab
-March 24 and 31: 1/3
-April 7 to May 12: dropped
-May 19: 1/3
-May 26 to July 7: tab ???
TOTAL: 17 = 14 tab ??? + 3 1/3 ???
(In JJ there's no precision about the number of the pages of each kind)
