I agree with 99 % of what you said. A very fitting tribute to Spike by Brian Lynch, and a good analyse of Spike's relations to the close people around him,
and how those relations change along with himself.
(I'll search around later for the one percent and maybe I'll find it ) |

I did, thanks for writing it. Loved how you pointed out Spike's character development in the story and that it even has some actual -- gulp! -- themes* in there.
For me as well, it all started with Spike: Asylum. I probably wouldn't be here discussing these comics if it wasn't for that book.

*Yeah, I now realize I used the word wrong in one of my questions to Brian in the Q&A... My only defense is that my last course in literature was many years ago. Thanks for refreshing my memory on that. |

Ah, no worries, that wasn't directed at you. That was actually written out of frustration when a popular writer/editor said, "Betrayal is the theme" about the book he was working on. _________________ http://patrickshand.blogspot.com/ |

Thanks. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, and your other reviews. They were very much appreciated. This retrospect sums up the character development that Spike has had across Brian's series very well. I do hope that Andrew Chambliss will be reading Brian's stuff or else all this character development might very well be lost. |

I don't hold out much hope for character development in Season 9. Pod!Angel's "....it's not just that we get to be together, Buffy, we finally get to be happy..." is so OOC, that I doubt anyone there knows anything beyond S3 BtVS characterisation. But, that's not the point of this thread.
I finally got to read the final Spike (Oi....Australia, all right...) I love your Spike Mr Lynch. A little insecure, mouthy, sentimental, practical and all heart. He will stand proud against what other writers choose to do with him - and we will remember your great effort. |

I finally had the chance to read the last issue of the Spike comic. Though I've never liked the bug ship and am sorry the last ever issue of Spike's own book had to be spent co-ordinating it with Dark Horse's Buffy comic, I think Brian did a great job. He managed to fit an awful lot into this comic too - not just the Wolfram & Hart and the bugship stuff, but also nice final scenes between Spike and the Mosaic characters (loved the scene where Spike leaves and is waved off by Dr Thibault and the others) and also Spike and Jeremy. I enjoyed the Mosaic characters the most of all the original characters introduced by IDW and am sorry to see them go. Spike's farewell to Dru was poignant and sad too.
Brian also managed to make the bugs a lot more interesting (and funny) than the other company did. Angry Bug was my favourite.
I think this was a great exit for the book, and though I'm not sorry we don't get to see Spike's further adventures with the bugs (I think a little of that would go a very long way), I am very sorry that the Spike book was cut short the way it has been. Thanks for everything, Brian and Franco. From Spike: Asylum onwards, it's been quite a ride. _________________ Aargh! 'Shippers! There goes the neighbourhood. |

Just finished the Spike Series and wanted to sincerely thank Brian Lynch and IDW for bring this series to us.!!!!!
I truly enjoyed these comics and though I am sad that we couldn't get an 'unlimited' series like was originally planned, I have to say that I am happy where Brian has left Spike in the end. He's in a good place with himself and it's a development that so many of us have longed hoped to see.
Thank you Brian, Franco and IDW.
I pray that all that Spike has gone through these past years both in the TV series and the comics will NOT be lost in Buffy S9 or at Darkhorse in general.
Spike is sooooo much more than just " the OTHER vampire with a soul" or one of Buffy's vampire boyfriends.
Thank you for for 'seconding' that emotion with this series.
PS ...I am seriously going to miss Beta George and Beck.....sigh....sniff. |
