TMNT fans, here's a thread to express our wants and desires for a new, dark, TMNT comic. We know that IDW is shooting for a PG+ rating. You can do dark books with that.

What do I mean by "dark"? Internal/spiritual struggles amongst the Turtles, darker minded thoughts, facing the future, facing what you must, and of course, a darker style of fighting. Let's not have any Old Toon fighting technique, please!

If I had it my way these new books would be as dark as Mirage Volume 1. But with a PG+, I don't think that's possible. But here's to wishful thinking!

Not even all of Vol. 1 was "dark." Sure, I'd like to see some darker atmosphere when it's called for (like the Leonardo micro), but I also need my "Shell of the Dragon" sometimes, too. Very Happy

True, I forget about a lot of later issues...v.1 had a decent run.

Yeah, somewhere along the line people who haven't really read the books got the idea that gritty = dark. Sure, the Turtles used their weapons, drew blood, and killed, but it was never gratuitous except for perhaps Bodycount, which wasn't really that bad.

I would peg the atmosphere of the Turtles' world as more "noirish" in that, while it does have fantastical elements, the overall feel of the settings and situations seem realistic and grounded.

Order some take-out, do laundry, fall into a parallel dimension while picking up dry cleaning, buy socks that are turn out to be a leprechaun's gold sacks, etc.

I love the feeling of the Turtles' New York when they are fighting Foot soldiers on a rooftop and skulking about dank alleyways.

Keep the guys in the shadows, they'll be in their element.

I think the book should balance dark, soul-searching strife and conflict with moments of humour and banter. Dark enough to be serious, but also silly enough to enable the anything-goes vibe I always got from the old comics.

I have to agree with that...I am new to the comic world of TMNT but I always felt that the 80's cartoon was fun but it was missing something...and from what I know the comics gave us that.

essentially I felt the cartoons were missing that torment the turtles were feeling and the lack of acceptance. Something that was mildly captured in the first movie.

Yes, I can agree with this. I'm very much into the Turtles "soul searching."

The tone/level of darkness in the original Eastman and Laird issues is what I'd like to see from IDW's TMNT comic.

Yes! In an ideal world, definitely.

Yeah - well I think IDW is going to do the "kiddy" thing with the Nick series, but stay more adult in the original one. At least I hope!

I don't remeber reading anywhere about 2 series. Though I wouldn't be suprised down the line if the newer series picks up any steam there could be a second sereis of comics linked to the tv show

I do feel they tend to do that with some stuff, and the turtles show and the turtles comics are general two different worlds.

The 2k3 series i think bridged the gap well from what I have heard to date.

I cross my fingers still for the Dark comics

During the announcement. One will be IDW's own continuity, then after Nick's toon debuts there will be an accompanying comic series ala Archie's TMNTA.

Hopefully the Nick book will do its own thing like TMNTA did, that's when that series really picked up steam and took off! Very Happy
