|
The MAY Writing Comp has posted at Cybertron's Core!
Voting is open til the 16th.
The new theme for-
MAY- Mini-Mayhem!!!
Among larger and more powerful Transformers, how do the smaller Minibots, cassetticons, Head-Target-Micromasters, etc, make their presense known and prove their worth to those who could simply step on them and end their existence?
On or off the battlefield, your choice. Any character or continuity.
We've provided the theme, you provide the rest!

It's DECEMBER in Australia, so let's get started! December's theme will be revealed below the entries that were recieved for November's theme.
November's entries are presented in alphabetical order by author.
The theme, chosen by JazZeke for-
NOVEMBER- Dinobot/Beast Wars
Dinobot/Beast Wars/Beast Machines
His story has been told to those who asked, told truthfully, the bad deeds along with the good. And it has become one of the fandoms' favorite stories of all time. But is it a complete story? Tell a "lost" story about everyone's favorite Evil Predacon-turned-Heroic Maximal. The rest is silence.
The Cold-War-esque political machinations between the Maximals and Predacons in the universe of the Beast Era.
Prehistoric Earth or back to the future Cybertron, take your pick. Use whichever characters you like. Give us something bold, adventurous or unexpectedly touching.
And remember; keep any comments constructive as everyone worked hard on these.

The Predacon that stole the Midwinter Festival
by Skids
The protohumans liked their midwinter festival a lot
But Waspinator thought ruining it would give him the top slot
What made him think of this plan no one quite knows the reason
But our best guess is he did it for Megatron because he thought it would please him
The most likely reason of all
Was just that his brain was two sizes too small
Whatever the reason his need for acceptance or his brain
Waspinator swore he’d cause the protohumans lots of pain
The protohumans were slaughtering all their beast
So they could have one last pre famine months feast
They’d added the hops they’d added the yeast
The alcohol would finally be ready to give them a treat.
Waspinator stood his fingers a drumming
“Waspinator must find a way to stop this festival from coming.”
On Saturnalia all would have fun, presents would be exchanged and slave swap with master.
Waspinator needed a way to cause a disaster.
Waspinator closer at the protohumans did peer
“Waspinator hasss a wonderful awful idea “
With this sickle and this sheaf of wheat I can confirm
That I’ll look just like Saturn
Waspinator wondered where a reindeer could be found
But as they were from a different cultural tradition they were thin on the ground
Plus Waspinator knew if he valued his hide
Better than to dress up another Predacon in some sort of disguise
Down into their settlement Waspinator did creep
While all the protohumans were fast asleep
Waspinator buzzed up to the first yurt
Waspinator had to hope they weren’t too alert
As Waspinator came up to the tent
He used his eye lasers to make a small rent
Into the tent Waspinator did slide
As he wanted to steal the food and presents inside
In seconds he’d bundled everything into a sack, it didn’t take long
Where could his cunning plan possibly go wrong
As Waspinator prepared to steal the protohumans sacrificial altar
A tiny voice spoke up that made Waspinator falter
“Oooh look this is the best Saturnalia yet.
Just look what Daddy’s got me a new kind of pet.”
Waspinator looked round his gaze kind of wild
Until he had to conclude that it was to him that referred the small child.
“I will hug you and luv you and call you Stripey”
Waspinator only reply
was to utter a long-suffering sigh
The childs eyes were bright
As it gave a cry of unbridled delight
“It talks even if in a funny way,
This is a present that definitely must stay.”
Waspinator looked down at the girl or was it a boy
“Waspinator tired of being universes chew toy.”
enough is enough
Waspinator will take all your stuff.
Waspinator is going to empty your house
Waspinator take your presents, your food and leave not enough for even a mouse”
“What about a rat?”said the scamp. As the child pulled off a mask to reveal Rattrap
Waspinator muttered: “Oh drat.
I know what happens now, now you blow me to scrap
Waspinator give in, he just not care
Why, oh why is the universe so unfair.
Waspinator is going to retire to go somewhere far
And maybe open some kind of bar.”
That is the end of this tale
As Waspinator did settle down to sell overpriced real ale.
The protohumans humans had their festival
After all
And Waspinator became a legend, he became known as a trickster god
But one who was incompetent and didn’t do a lot
The current version a lot of people know
It’s about a Grinch who went out in the snow
"Die But Once"
by Thunderwing
Summary: A bot can die but once.
Optimus Primal was dead.
And Dinobot was not surprised. He had long believed that Primal’s innate bravado and naïve idealism would one day conspire to end the Maximal commander’s life.
No, Dinobot was not surprised at all when he had heard what had happened. Primal had commandeered a jury-rigged stasis pod, flown into orbit and kamikazed into an alien super-weapon, destroying it at the cost of his own life. As far as deaths went, Dinobot had to admit that it was a fairly spectacular way to perish. It had made him acutely aware of his own mortality, to say the least. Gears were turning in Dinobot’s head and he felt it was time to make some bold moves. But first, he had a matter to settle.
Just the night before, the Maximals had held a memorial service for Optimus Primal. Although not sentimental by nature, Dinobot had felt it his duty to attend and honor his fallen commander. But he had felt the ceremony was wholly inadequate. Rattrap spent most of the time trying to bait him and being a general irritant. Rhinox seemed more preoccupied than usual, which was understandable, but he had barely spoken a word. Tigatron had conducted the brief proceedings, speaking succinctly about Primal’s more…<I>Maximal</I> proclivities. “Spirit of an explorer” this and “Hunter of peace” that. It made Dinobot want to retch.
Airazor had noticed his unease and asked if he wanted to say something, but Dinobot decided that discretion was the better part of valor in this case, particularly after noting Rhinox’s furrowed brow and obvious agitation. Instead, he turned and left, ignoring Cheetor’s disappointed stare and Rattrap’s gouda-eating grin.
Explorer? Scholar? <I>Peacemaker?</I> Optimus Primal had been a warrior, above all else, one of the few Dinobot had respected over the course of his life! He felt that this warrior had not been properly honored by his peers. And Dinobot sought to rectify this grave injustice.
The next morning, he journeyed out beyond Maximal territory, towards a nearby mountain range. He chose a large stone, carved it as carefully as he could, and lodged it in a relatively firm patch of earth. Dinobot engraved Optimus Primal’s name on it in basic Cybertronix, along with the current stellar-cycle.
He considered gathering and leaving a bundle of some of the nearby plant life. But Dinobot hesitated upon recalling what had happened the last time he had done so, during Primal’s recovery from Scorponok’s viral mine. Rattrap had mocked him for WEEKS after hearing about that. Dinobot hadn’t understood what was so amusing. He recalled that the deliverance of some kind of flora during one’s convalescence was a fleshling tradition and one Primal would certainly appreciate. So what was so funny? Dinobot had simply dismissed the rodent’s reaction as mere ignorance of history. Still, he decided not to risk it this time, on the off chance that Rattrap would happen upon this monument in the future.
All was in readiness, so Dinobot raised his sword and began his personal salute to his departed commander.
“Leader, hero…warrior. I honor you. May your courageous spark find Silicon Valhalla and may it rest in glory…and in peace for all eternity.”
Dinobot remained with his head bowed for several cycles more, then turned to begin the trip home, his sense of duty satisfied.
-
Two days later, Dinobot returned to the stone monument he had so carefully constructed. With a frustrated snarl, he destroyed it with a single flash of emerald from his optics.
“<I>Fffah!</I> I should have expected no less from someone named “Optimus”!”
Dinobot stalked away, muttering to himself.
This entry is for entertainment only as JazZeke chose this month's theme.
Loyalty
by JazZeke
He had decided. As his sensei had taught him, a warrior needed to be resolute. Ironic, then, that the warrior’s interpretation of his master’s teachings had led him down a path that separated him from said master. Sensei had disapproved of his intentions, saying that he sought glory, not honor. But were they not the same thing? Glory could not be achieved without honor, and honor meant nothing without glory.
He walked through the hallways of the Astrological Imperium. Such a duplicitous hideaway was hardly becoming of the future conquerors of Cybertron. But then, the legends said that the original Megatron had founded the Decepticon movement amongst worse straights. The Predacons were repeating history, but they would learn from the mistakes of their ancestors. This new Megatron had assured him of a grand plan to wipe Cybertron free from the stranglehold of hypocritical, oppressive Maximals. They would succeed where the Decepticons had failed.
He hesitated at the entrance of Megatron’s personal office. Now he had reached the point of no return. Before he could even activate the chime, though, the door cracked open and a familiar violet form greeted him. “Ah, yes. Come to accept my proposal, have you?”
The warrior drew his sword and charged through the door. Megatron stepped back, a serious but confident expression. He did not flinch as the warrior pressed forward. Such was the courage of one worth following. He dropped down onto one kneejoint and presented the handle of his weapon to Megatron. “I, Dynobot, pledge myself to your cause,” he rasped. “My sword is yours. I will stand by your side as we terrorize our enemies.”
“Quite the theatrical flair you have,” Megatron observed, before turning away to retrieve two cubes of energon. “Drink, my lieutenant.”
Dynobot accepted the fuel and downed it in two gulps. “Lieutenant?” he repeated.
“But of course. You are one of the few Predacons with formal battle training. Don’t think I don’t know of your secret tutelage. A wise conspirator always researches his potential allies.”
“How shrewd of you,” Dynobot said flatly.
“I have the recruits, Dynobot, but they lack training, discipline. I will give you bodies, and you will give me an army. Understood?”
Dynobot paused, considering. “The Forbidden Arts are more than a bag of tricks. They are a way of life, and I have not proven myself worthy to mentor.”
“Hang your code!” Megatron snapped. “Are you refusing to-”
“I am not refusing anything,” Dynobot stated. “I have already sworn myself to your service, Megatron. I will teach your recruits some techniques, but I am forbidden from sharing the Dark Secrets with them.”
That seemed to appease Megatron somewhat. “What can you teach them?”
“How to kill. Crush. Terrorize.”
“That will be enough, then.”
“Affirmative. Now, show me this army you have told me so much about.”
Megatron smirked. “In due time, lieutenant.”
<o>
It grated every atom of his being to flee from two mere sentries. But Megatron had what they came for: the Golden Disk. Dynobot raged as they fled. That was what that they had risked everything for? Not some great weapon, but a dusty artifact? Megatron refused to explain himself as they fled, or as a Predacon warship dove down from the skies and swooped them up.
As Dynobot and Cyber-bug (a fool lackey Dynobot had decided he didn’t like) followed Megatron aboard the vessel and headed for the bridge, Dynobot could only wonder one thing: where was the army? The decks of the ship were all distinctively devoid of troops. As they entered the bridge, Dynobot spied three others, whom Megatron introduced as Tantulas, Terrorsoar and Weaponator.
“Now do we do rendezvous with our army?” Dynobot questioned.
Everyone turned to give him a blank stare. Dynobot clenched his servos. “Well?” he demanded.
“Why, Dynobot,” Megatron said as he took a seat in the mobile command chair and raised it into the air. “I believe you have inferred too much. This is our army.”
“WHAT!?” Dynobot screamed. Rage boiled up and permeated his spark. “You have betrayed me, Megatron!”
“I did no such thing!” he snapped. “It is not my fault if you let your imagination get the better of you. Besides, once Tantulas has decrypted the coordinated hidden within the disk, we will be able to harness more power than you can ever imagine. We don’t need a legion to accomplish our mission.”
“You had better be right, Megatron,” he snarled.
Cyber-bug tensed. “Is that a threat?”
“A warning,” Dynobot said as he folded his arms, standing still while the ship trembled and jumped into hyperspace. Everyone grabbed their seats and struggled to retain their balance, except him. He remained standing through it all. “No more secrets, Megatron. I want full disclosure.”
“And you shall have it,” Megatron said, folding his hands and leaning into them. “Now, my Predacons, let me tell you a story, about my namesake and his time on Earth…”

Wow, I'd almost wanna suggest letting J-Zeke into this competition this month, just for some more options!
Was the turnout low because of the possible fleeting nature of this Fanworks section, or did no one decide to write in?
Anyhow, I voted for skids. And I legitimately liked it.
Good one on you too, J. _________________ Everything is okay to print.

The Australian time was established by my predecessor and I just didn't change it because I know this thing is global and not dependent on my being in an American time zone. Unfortunately that means that Australia is currently 16 hours ahead of United States Eastern time, so the 6PM Nov 30th deadline there is 2AM here. _________________ I dont know you and yet I feel a kinship...kinship. |

I dumped mine because it turned into a story with a bot called Dinobot, not THE character named Dinobot. . . . . and glad I did it too.
Be nice to get Blazemane's story in, for another aspect of style.

I don't think it has anything to do with the impending end of the writing comp... earlier in the month several people said they weren't going to put stuff in due to whatever reason they posted about... and then there was NaNoWriMo for me, and anyone else who participated there.
Not to mention holidays...
kinda crazy... that's all.

I don't want to give anyone the wrong impression- I'm a big enough procrastinator that I didn't have anything written before today.
With Novastorm's post above saying I should send my story in, though, I figured I may as well try to write one. But what I wrote reminds me too much of a different story written by another Beast Wars fan, and comes to a rather dull conclusion. And I regret to admit I don't really have time to make the story satisfying because I've got something that is also time consuming due in class tomorrow.
Sorry for any stir I might have caused- I was hoping to make a 4th story, but I see now that I can't.
Anyways, I should be able to get around to reviewing these tomorrow... |

Like I said... it's one of those months.
It's all okay... it's a new month and a new theme and a new day tomorrow. Sometimes it's totally there and everything comes together...
and sometimes you hit a brick wall that just hits you back in all the wrong places.
lol.
