Maybe the writers of the main series should do a "Girl's Night Out" stand-alone or two-parter where the ladies of Angel Investigations go out on a case together. Personally, I imagine that there is the potential for some humour there too. I think it could play out like the BtVS episode where Anya and Willow clashed and later bonded fighting Anya's troll ex-bf, in fact- Anya is probably one of the few characters that might've been able to relate to Ilyria on some level- too bad she's dead! |
I like that idea. Actually seeing a scene of Kate trying to engage Illyria in "girl talk" would be funny.
| Quote: | | I suppose I'd like to see Illyria forming relationships with her co-workers. There's a dangling thread from AtF which is Spike and Illyria avoiding each other. Illyria's realtionship with Gunn would also seem to be interesting. I'd like an exploration of why she would choose to stay with the gang, what keeps her with them, insecurities maybe, what she feels they give her ? I think that at some point she may challenge Angel a little more, the rival rulers angle that they started to skirt round in Ats 5. I don't think that she would ever be content to merely be a member of Angel's team. |
I would like to see this also. The Spike/Illyria relationship in ATF was very interesting and I felt that Illyria did form some sort of trust/friendship with Spike and was even a little protective of him (she defended him against Angel). I think it was based on a confussion of his feels for Fred as worship for her and this was shatter a bit when she found out what he was really thinking. Wes did ask Spike to take care of her before his final exit and I'd like to see that touched on. As for Angel, he is suppose to be her moral guide now and it'll be interesting to see how that works out for the both of them.

That makes me happy. Illyria is full of emotions that she has no idea how to use and it will be really cool to see things through her eyes a bit.
As far as gender goes, I think that Illyria is female both because she is in Fred's body and has Fred's memories. If she had ended up in a male body she would have been male. Also in the episode The Girl In Question, she tells Wes that she wants to explore a romantic relationship with him. That makes me think that not every organ melted away. I don't think Illyria is a like an M&M with a hard shell and nothing but a chocolate center. I think she liquified Fred insides to make room for her own. |

| I'd like to see Illyria exploring the world a bit more. Hell, I'd like to see her meeting some of the "mythic" characters from other franchises. The Phantom Stranger, Doctor Strange, Doctor "Matthew Smith",the Winchester boys ... people like that. |

Are Angel or any other characters going to be featured in this?Or is it a 'between' issues story like 'The Devil you know' is set between issues 32 and 33? _________________

It's set parallel to the end of this arc, so, it starts around the same time issue #38 begins. Which corresponds roughly to the beginning of the Spike series.
Angel and Spike both appear in it, actually, but it's mostly about Illyria. |

Nahh, I'm counting on the stories being pretty much selfcontained, even though I'm buying all the series (so it wont be a probleme for me anyway).
I mean, who can resist Illyria? |

Not really. It's more that they're happening within a larger story, but they have their own arcs and purpose. So they are self-contained, but they will reference each other and other events and have consequences for the entire arc of the main series. |

If you're reading the whole ANGEL line, you'll definitely be able to tell where this fits into the big picture, but it's Illyria's story first and foremost. |

| Quote: | | I always assumed that Illyria was meant to be sorta intersexed or gender neutral. It didn't seem like the most of the Old Ones, like Lohesh and Olvikan (the one the Mayor Ascends as), necessarily have a gender. I always assumed Illyria is called "she" because she's in Fred's body, but "she'd" be a he if "she" went into a male's body. Has it ever been specifically stated that the God-King Illyria was female and would always be female no matter what body he/she/it was in? Like, if Gunn had been Illyria's host, instead of trying to seduce Connor in Willingham's arc, would Illyria have found a female to try and seduce or would a male still be preferable? |
This. I think Illyria identifies as female because "she" has a female body. I don't think she had a gender when she was a giant tentacle monster. Prior to infecting Fred, Illyia was refered to as "it" by Wesley and everyone else. If Gunn had been the one to touch the gem on the sarcophagus, Illyria would have been male. And yes, I imagine at this point Illyria might be looking for a female to mate with if it's body had happened to be male.
In their true forms, I don't think the Old Ones need genders. I think they are both/neither. So far they've all been giant serpentine/insect/tentacle monsters.
As for whether Illyria still has any worshipers, I once read a fanfic on that idea that was pretty funny. It involved some people showing up at they Hyperion ready to sacrifice their daughter in Illyria's honor, and Illyria told them off for it. I imagine her worshipers are few and far between nowadays. She was a ruler a very long time ago. So if we do ever meet any more of her worshipers, I wouldn't like for there to be many of them, realistically. |
