Ha, so there's a common theme with the latest Buffy issue 
I agree with you! I’m sick to seeing Angel pantless! And Spike’s a** looks better even in a “heart” boxers.

No, I don’t hate Angel, but I DO HATE Angel with Buffy! Their sex on S8 was disgusting and the art even made it worst. I have to admit I’m not a big fan of after seeing that. And I don’t really care what will happen with him next… 
Well, I like Angel pantless on his series - the art is brilliant. Angel is sexy and hot, I can’t deny it, but Spike is sexier than him and hotter than hell! Actually I’m buying the Angel series because of Spike. I’ll drop the comics immediately when Spike leaves the series.

Yeah, you've told us. And I hope you know that there are people out there who love B/A as much as you love B/S. They have just as much right as you to see their ship. No side deserves it more.

Yeah, you said, and again not a great way of looking at a series. I'm out if Spike is. You may not haave noticed, Veiriti, but there are more characters than Spike. He is but one of many. I'm sure you'd enjoy yourself a whole lot more if you immersed yourself in the stories of all characters, not just Spike.

| Yeah. For instance, what do you guys think Gwen was up to and will it be important to the main plot sooner, later, or not at all (like maybe she was just a random LA run in)? Personally, I'd like to see her come back into the picture if only because Illyria's reaction now that she is "courting" Connor is totally something worth seeing. Plus, there's all that other character growth stuff and whatever, too, but you gotta think of the funny first. |

I'd like to see Gwen return. Have her kill James off and then take his place in the group.
No, in all seriousness I've always wanted her more involved with AI, back when the show was on. I always liked her character, and her appearances were always memorable.
I think it'd be good to see how she handles being around Connor and Gunn. How will she deal with Eddie when he joins the group? And yes, how will she deal with Illyria who is flirting with her man, for want of a better word.

I *finally* got my issue.
I must say that I really enjoyed this one, I think reading all 5 issues together will read very well.
Did other ash-affected fans get this yet? Hope I'm not too late for a discussion:)

I got mine. Decided to keep reading a little longer in light of what Mariah said.
Unfortunately, I still loathed it, though this time not because of anything to do with Spike.

Why did you loathe it? I haven't read it but most people on here seem to be fairly positive about it. (Or at least more positive than about the previous issues.) |

I found all the characters deeply unpleasant, and apart from Angel none of their 'voices' seemed right at all. Illyria in particular was just terrible, though there was one line of hers that raised a smile.

Sorry to hear you didnt like it Deb. I still had a few issues with it, but overall I enjoyed it.
I re-read all 5 issues in one sitting tonight, and as a story it reads well. Yes, the trouble he had getting the voices in the early issues still jars, but as a story it reads like a solid season opener. (Although in my nerdiness I have put 'Boys and their Toys' combined with 1st part of Only Human as the season premiere of 'Season 7', followed by Music of the Spheres (and the conclusion of Only Human) as Episode 2 and Immortailty for Dummies as Episodes 3+4 - totally my own organisational system:))
Liked:
- Angel out of the bloody coffin:) I like how he dealt with Roman, I could really hear Boreanaz say the lines in my head. I enjoyed his reaction to Laura, and Illyria's suggestion about snapping of Roman's fingers. Very 'Angel' his reaction;pretend to let her do it to freak out Roman.
I will really miss Denham on the art - apart from the HULK!Angel, he really managed to capture Boreanaz' likeness. I'm sure Casagrande will do a great job, but Denham is the only artist apart from Mooney to really nail the likeness. I have no idea why he isnt doing it anymore - but I hope he returns sometime.
-Laura Weathermill. I just like her character. I'm sure there is more to her than meets the eye. She deceived Immortality Inc...and I'm sure she will deceive Angel Inc. She shot dead some gypsies and (offscreen) some witches, effectively murdering them. So she ain't squeeky clean! Am looking forward to seeing more of her.
- Eddie bumping into Gwen was fun. I'm sure she will be brought into the story again at some stage; this isnt just a one off I presume. I am just itching for Eddie to properly bump into the gang. With Gunn having left, I think that is how he meets Eddie next issue.
-I liked the scenes with the gang - I thought the Gunn/Connor scene was good dramatically. Obviously Connor would still hold resentment about VampGunn killing him, and he cant seem to differentiate in his head that it wasnt really Gunn that killed him...but a twisted vampiric Gunn. So it's understandable...but a little unfair.

-Having said I liked the Gunn/Connor scene I did have a big problem with the fact that Willingham seems to think that the events in HellA 'didnt happen' - they certainly did! In the 1st Eddie Hope back up the bar guy said events in Hell "Didn't happen" only to be corrected by Eddie who insisted "I was there".
So I didnt understand why here he has Gunn saying they were "imaginary". I could understand if his argument was that it wasnt him that did it, but the VampireGunn....but not sure why he is saying that the events didnt happen.

I do that all the time, as well. Yet, I always saw Boys & Their Toys and Only Human as mini-series preliminary to the season premiere.
Aslo Drusilla, Last Angel in Hell & Music of the Spheres as T.V. movies that help build the universe.

I don't think they're saying "It never happened." But some people, especially Gunn, want to believe it never happened. Reversing time is tricky for everyone involved. It's easier hide guilt when you can LITERALLY say "It was a different time and different place. I was a different person." Gunn won the argument. But that doesn't mean he's right, neither is Connor.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I thought the Angel scenes were the best by far. And Denham did draw him very well, except for the Hulk!Angel panel, which might have been deliberate. I'm sorry he's going too, though unlike you, I'm afraid I don't rate Mooney at all. I hope the new artist isn't anything like him.
The Angel/Illyria scenes contained my one bit of enjoyment from the book, which was Illyria being amused by Corporate Guy's invoking of the deity. I thought that was nicely ironic. I also agree that Laura Weathermill must be up to something, but I can't say I'm particularly interested in what.
Apart from that, I loathed the Felicia Day stuff. It was nasty beyond belief. I loathed Connor saying Spike is 'an eternal dick' because I don't believe it, and I don't believe that's what Connor saw of him in After the Fall, so him having that opinion now doesn't compute. And I loathed the way they all treated Gunn. I suppose it's to create conflict in later issues, but I hated seeing the character being talked to in that way, and Spike (who should know better) standing there and letting it happen.
But of course, he's 'an eternal dick' so he would.
Hmm, seems some of what I didn't like was bound up with Spike after all. Who knew? But all the characters are pretty unlikeable at the moment. Angel's about the only one you can't say that about and that may well be because he's not been in it much yet.
I think I'll have to give this book up afer all. I'll do what Double Dutchess is doing and read what everyone else has to say and then decide in the long run whether to buy the TPBs.
