I'm surprised Transformers Vol. 2 isn't listed. Although Vol. 1 looks to be big (155 pages or so), maybe includes the first 6 or 7 issues. Or maybe the first 6 issues plus SL Prowl. So Volume 2 wouldn't be due until around December or January. _________________ September 17, 1984. The world changed forever.

With the proliferation of character-specific miniseries (Bumblebee, Ironhide, and now Drift) they might not publish Spotlights often enough to fill out TPBs in a timely manner, so sticking them in with the ongoing makes sense. _________________ I like the following: Solid pacing. That's what I'm thinking. Plus they sort of ended the "Spotlight" TPBs as a separate run once they made the last run into AHM Vol. 3. I had assumed we'd seen the end of Spotlights once they went to an ongoing format. You need a one-off issue here and there, and what used to be the spotlights fills that role well. I think SL Prowl will prove the exception. _________________ September 17, 1984. The world changed forever.

Best of Starscream? Sweet!
Best of Grimlock... also sweet!
"TransFormers: Drift" - Oh purlease?! Yes, that iconic character, up there with Megatron, Prime, Starscream and Grimlock in the memories and affections of all fans...
...come on, seriously, someone just put the solicit in there to see who was first with this kind of snarky comment!
Is there enough of sword-monkey to put together the equivalent of 4 issues? The spotlight, the Perceptor Coda I guess, there's 37.5%... seriously, what else is going in here? Or are we getting a 'special miniseries event' this summer? Hang on, it might well be, who's Lee Ferguson, the guy credited next to Shane? _________________ *All my nonsense tapped out here is okay to print*

Price point suggests a 4-issue collection. Wonder if that will be the 3rd series, alongside Ironhide and the Ongoing? Whatever you feel about Drift the samurai, Drift the faction-jumper and the third faction have great storytelling potential... _________________ Facsimiles are people II |

That's a pretty standard size for 6-issue collections (A.H.M. vol. 2 was 152 pages, for instance). Seven issues would require at least 154 pages (excluding stuff like a title page and cover gallery), or in this case 156 pages since Ongoing #1 had two extra pages.
Most IDW paperbacks seem to come out 3 months after the final issue in the collection, or 2 months afterwards when it's not the end of the series (A.H.M. vol. 1 and now Ongoing vol. 1). With #12 likely coming out in October, vol. 2 should indeed come out in December. I guess that the list just isn't complete and vol. 2 will be added later, or perhaps IDW has reasons to expand the second volume to cover seven issues. |

GWolfV2 requested this one very recently in another thread (nice call!) ... not that he's Drift's biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination, but the entire defection and third faction do have great story potential, and I'm very keen to see what Shane can do with 4 issues. Hopefully Ferguson will run with some of Casey's extras assuming Turmoil and crew are included.
I do like the idea of character centric minis, though I know it tends to have more appeal if they focus on a personal favourite. The important thing is they have to focus on a significant event associated with that character. The Spotlight format retains a niche role that can focus on the character more than an event, hence the event can be more a personal trial than something that has major consequences beyond the issue. Thankfully, IDW have never said they were ditching spotlights. _________________ Ok to print!

can't really get into these "best of" volumes, since I have all of the underlying stories that they're drawn from. But they're a great way to draw in the uninitiated. _________________ September 17, 1984. The world changed forever.
