Something I picked up from a Star-Trek thread on John Byrne’s forum. A bit weird, not to have Chris Ryall announcing this first. Maybe it’s a glitch from JB? Anyway, this sounds exiting.
| Quote: | I think I may have forgotten to mention that there has been some schedule
shuffling. IDW has decided to release the Andy Hallett tribute book (ANGEL:
MUSIC OF THE SPHERES) in March, so McCOY's start date has been bumped
back to April.
Before anyone pounces with glee, here, let me point out this is not a "delay",
since the book had not yet been officially scheduled or solicited. And, as
noted upthread, the first issue is finished, and I will probably be starting on
the second next week, when MUSIC is finished. |

Details and a cover at Chris Ryall's blog.
RyallTime: Lorne's final song
So the character of Lorne is being retired and a tribute to Andy Hallett.
I have to say,IDW is very classy for doing this and while I'm going to miss the character from future stories,I understand why it's been decided to honor Andy and retire the character from use. |

I think that this is a wonderful idea and I'm glad that John Byrne is going to handle this as he knew Andy. However, I feel seriously conflicted about this being Lorne's final appearance in 'main Angel continuity.' |

it's deeply touching to see how much impact Andy's had on the community. Puts all the "shouting in the evenings" (to quote Patrick Troughton, on summing up his occupation) into context, and about how effective some actors really can be, both as the characters they play, and the people they are. _________________ Ohh 'Eck! |

I think that for me its a case of you could argue that it's also honouring Andy to let the character that he brought to life carry on. I'm not really sure, but I fully support IDW's decision - and I think that remembering him in this way is a marvellous idea. |

| I would have had no problem with it if Lorne had been kept on as a character in the comics; on the other hand I do think this tribute is a very nice gesture. (And much better than if they'd just let him fade away, which I suspect might have been a risk otherwise.) |

Some more comments from Chris Ryall about the tribute book and retiring Lorne.

| Quote: | | "I hear you guys about not removing Lorne permanently--and I agree with you. However, it also feels like if we were to use Lorne frequently right now, pretty soon after Andy's passing, that that would be wrong, too. Like somehow we're capitalizing or profiting from his passing. So I want a "final" Lorne story for now, with proceeds going to Andy's foundation, but I'd never look to remove the character he and Joss created for good. Just want to be sensitive about things for now." |
So,Lorne probably won't be gone forever. He's just being taken off the board for the time being in respect for Andy's passing and not trying to profit from it.
And I think proceeds going to Andy's foundation is a nice touch.
Here's a preview page from John Bryne's forum.

| Thanks. That clarifies things for me. I'm pleased that Andy's foundation is to benefit. |

It looks like Chris took away the page that was there and replaced it with a different one.

| Is this comic out this week ? I'm hoping there'll be lots of publiciity and this sells very well for Andy's foundation. I've loved JB's other Angelverse comics so I'm feeling a buzz of the right kind of anticipation for this one. |
