Nothing has been announced since that initial report. If it's going ahead I'd bet on it being delayed until after the new film comes out to try and make the most of the hype and hopeful surge in Trek popularity it will bring. _________________ Numerically challenged drone

yep, that could be the case, cause it's the same with Star Trek Online, which is also supposed to be released after the movie (I've even heard they plan a new series) _________________ 'Play with friends, be a Hero!'

Two questions:
Does anybody know if there're already concept art of New TAS, not from the crew, but from the ship, a so-called 'Bismarck-Class'?
And I've heard, that some time ago, there actually were plans for another animated series, some kind fo mixture between TOS and TNG and for this one concept art exist. Again, anybody an idea where to get it? _________________ 'Play with friends, be a Hero!'

Makes sense, especially as we've gone past the point where it's easy to get original actors in for most series.
Probably also to some degree inspired by what Star Wars and Transformers have done. _________________

well, now I finally got to know what has become of New TAS, sad but true, the project has been cancelled and won't make it to the screen.
the only good thing is that they put the whole stuff for New TAS, including artwork and the script for the pilot episode on a homepage:

in my opinion it's defenitly worth a look of what might have been...and I BEG IDW to think about doing a miniseries about Final Frontier! I'd love to see this 'E' flyin' _________________ 'Play with friends, be a Hero!'

| It had some very good ideas (like anti-militarism), but I'm actually glad it's off the table because multiple aspects about it bugged me (the ethnosexual hierarchy, the design of the Enterprise, only five minute episode length). I hope for another try that keeps closer to my tastes. |

Even though the Federation has had military power at its use, it has mostly been dominated by a humanistic rather than militaristic ideology. In Trek force has mostly been used as a last resort, "pew pew shoot first ask questions later" has been demonized and diplomacy and understanding alien civilizations has been a primary ideology.
In that regard, I think NTAS was very much in keeping with Trek lore when it wanted to present a scenario where the Federation was taken over by darker more militaristic ideologies and they wanted to rebel against it and bring back a cleaner more Roddenberryish utopia. |

When I saw the sketches, I thought: So... the Enterprise was going to be a Cardassian Galor-class ship? Then, when I saw the rest, well, as much as I dislike the "new" Constitution in the new movie, it is far more reminiscent of an Enterprise than anything those designs could provide. _________________ The preceding post is OK to print. |

I'd say at least NTAS should have been given a try..... the worst thing that could have happened would be and end after one season (remember BSG TOS?) or 'it's not canon' (remember TAS?).... but at least it would have been a new approach and somewhat more creative that just 'hey, what are we gonna do tonight?' 'same thing as every night, we try to bring another remake on the big screen!'
as for the new E, well would have been a very different approach, but hey IDIC and all that stuff..... maybe a more BSGesque style would have done some good (even I have to admit that I have come to actually like ST:XI) and these Dragonflies are very cool
.... only problem would have been the Roms, since they don't have a planet anymore since Countdown, which I tend to consider some kind of canon (and really hope that the Written Canon will go for it too, but that's another topic....) _________________ 'Play with friends, be a Hero!'

People always bring up IDIC for something people disagree on, but are they even aware that IDIC was originally created as a way for Gene Roddenberry to promote a product on Star Trek which he wanted to sell? No joke! Straight from Leonard Nimoy's "I Am Spock" the IDIC medallion was a product Gene Roddenberry wanted to sell via mail order and wrote Spock wearing it into a scene to give it some exposure.

All the same, I think a new Star Trek animated series should be done. Paramount can test the waters by having it done as a 5-part miniseries as was done for GI Joe in the 1980s. If fan response is great, then they can go ahead with an all new series.
If this happens they can do a new series set in the Original Series Era, even the new one in Star Trek XI, or do an anthology utilizing all the established Star Trek series to date as the basis in a rotating manner.
This could allow the studio to have the original Trek actors, from William Shatner to Scott Bakula voice the characters (Karl Urban & Simon Plegg can voice Bones & Scotty) , or get new voice actors all together.
One edge is that Trekk is always more adult oriented, so they can tell more serious stories like Japanese anime does. _________________ "Let us renew our faith and our hope. We have every right to dream heroic dreams!"

IDIC = Infinite Diversity and Insidious Commercialism indeed (I like that)
I agree with Viceroy, a new TAS should be done, but it would also be a shame to just let the - in my opinion - good ideas from Final Frontier be unused. _________________ 'Play with friends, be a Hero!'
