Original solicit: "The first volume of The Ark focused on the animation models used for animating the Transformers cartoon, and now Jim Sorenson and William Forster turn their attention to Japanese character models, U.S. character models from beyond 1987, Studio Ox manga illustrations, and more."
http://www.allspark.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=40424&st=0
Present solicit: "TRANSFORMERS: The Ark, Volume 2 picks up where the first volume left off, making available for the first time hundreds of rare images chronicling the evolution of TRANSFORMERS in Japan. This volume covers all of the classic Japanese series material: HEADMASTERS, MASTERFORCE, VICTORY, ZONE, BATTLESTARS, and OPERATION COMBINATION. TRANSFORMERS, humans, aliens, ships and weapon models decorate this 208-page volume. If you love animation designs or ever wanted to know more about the TRANSFORMERS Anime, this book is for you."

Just to be 100% clear, the original soliciation was based on some very early emails I had sent to my editor about what material I have available but before the scope of the book was decided. There will be no Studio Ox material in this book, nor will there be any material from the US commercials.
However, there will be tons and tons and tons of designs for the various Japanese anime and manga. It'll feel very similar to volume 1 in terms of layouts, with each series getting its own section in the book. Since the material is a little less familiar to the average Transfan than the American cartoon, we also included a few sentences on most of the pages about who the characters were and what they were all about. Not a complete bio, but enough so that even if you're not entirely familiar with, say, Masterforce, you can appreciate what God Bomber is all about.

Yeah, it's a bit unfortunate that every Amazon site still currently has only the original solicitation text. Shouldn't really have been submitted by IDW with any specifics before the book moved past outline stage.
Now that Denton's on the case, I'm sure stuff like this'll get caught before release in future. _________________

Super Megatron's design reminds me a bit of Animated Megatron. Both the head and the alt mode. _________________ September 17, 1984. The world changed forever.

I'm still unsure of this one.
The first one was a quality book, but it just didn't do anything for me.
It's not really something I had/have a need for, and I have other reference books I use, never looked at this one again since purchase.
But this one does look more interesting. :/ _________________ Confidence is in those who are so certain they continuously learn in an attempt to prove themselves wrong. |

| Minor note- Nightbeat came first, not Minerva. Or at the very least, the toy wasn't designed with a female in mind. |

How do we know this? I mean, most TF's start with Takara and then are adapted by Hasbro... I know a bit of this changed in the middle days of G1 but at the time of Masterforce et al Western G1 was slowing down in the states and all, surely Minerva came before Nightbeat?
Intriguing nonetheless...

Definitely be buying this book. As it stands, I don't really know much about Masterforce, Victory etc. [but synapse's enthusiasm for japanese transformer stuff is infectious] so I'm looking forward to a good introduction to these series. And that model of Star Saber looks ace - cheers Jim... _________________ okay to print |
