Here are a few related questions for Mr McCarthy;

1. In the press release it states that AHM will include 'an all-new Transformers character' is this character a Transformer?

2. If the answer to the above is 'yes', does 'all-new' mean a character that has never before existed in any form or does it just mean new to the idw continuity?

Finally, (this is my real question because I suspect I know the answers to the above but thought I should include them to be absolutely clear) 3. What is the rationale behind the inclusion of this character, in general, rather than specific, terms?

I'm not asking this as a complaint, but simply because I'm interested in his thoughts as a writer.

My question is a general one.

In what direction are you planning on taking the Transformers in terms of writing? In other words, is there something different you're shooting for in comparison to what we've seen from IDW the past two years?

Also, is AHM fully mapped out, or is the ending still open based upon how things go down with the fandom over the first six issues say, or any other plotlines from future Spotlights etc?

Great question. Bump this over to the Q&A thread and I'll answer it when that kicks off.

I'll be away for a while. Play nice.

From the AHM thread then... so yeah, like I said, what's the craic Shane? Smile

1. When can we expect news about 'The 13' story?
2. Will it be released during the AHM series or after?

Thanks!

More questions:

1) Are Verity and Jimmy on Earth or did the Autobots blast off with them? If they are in Earth will they appear in AHM?

2) What's the chances of Galvatron and Scorpy appearing?

For some reason, when I first glanced at that, I read "Scorpy" as "Scooby." Then I had flashes of Galvatron solving mysteries with Scooby Doo. It was slightly more awesome than it had any right to be.

Wow. Now THAT was funny.

Ok, here's a question.

Before the direction IDW chose to go in the direction that it did with G1, were other options considered? What other approaches or scenarios were pitched or discussed before settling on the current storyline?

For example, was it ever considered to relaunch the original G1 concept along the lines of two factions stranded and fighting it out on earth and the realistic implications that their war would bring to earth? (As opposed to an intergalactic conflict that involves earth as one front.)

There's a few 'could have been' outlines in the back of The Best of Simon Furman... if I ever get a few minutes I'll fish it out and pop up what was there - The big epic one was kind of a cross between DW's TF: Armada 'World's Collide' series and added Vector Prime to the mix, a sort of TF multiverse if you like...

Focus On... was anticipated to be shipping this week, 26/3. With it missing from Diamond's list, the Q and A will obviously be pushed back a week, til it comes out.
Please keep the questions coming though, there's some really interesting ones so far.

Two more.
1. Why did it take so long for someone to come up with the 'Transforumer' title. (hehe)
2. Have you ever looked at the Mosaics for potential talent. (someone else wanted to ask this, but didn't want it showing under their name. So I said I'd ask)

They have been from the word go, but retailers have been reluctant to buy issues that aren't part of a miniseries -- generally under-ordering, if complaints about the spotlights being harder to get hold of are anything to go by.

I don't think they went to G-9. Prime probably wouldn't endanger them.

Yeah, the two comic retailers near where I work don't seem to carry the Spotlights.
