I didnt like this casting, Ro-Dan. Lucas is too young and does not look like Hunter. I was hoping for a more mature actor like Ray Liotta.

He may not be too bad. As long as he dyes his hair black. Anyway, it's gonna be hard to replace Jeffrey Hunter. I really love the Pike character, and much like Shatner's Kirk, it's gonna be hard to see someone else playing the part. _________________

I think the upcoming movie will be good, the things I've heard about the crew and the story are quite cool, but one has to see if this will be the thing that can bring life to the whole universe once more (hope it does and looking forward to new Series, maybe animated, and Star Trek Online)
what excites me most is that the guy from 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Hot Fuzz' might end up as Scotty (very fitting) _________________ 'Play with friends, be a Hero!'

I cant say I liked the casting of Simon Pegg as Scotty. The actor from Stargate Atlantis - Paul McGillion - would be a much better choice.

Gustavo, what's your impression in regard to the whole Shatner situation? Do you think he'll end up in this movie or not? _________________

I'd have preferred Paul McGillion too, I know it's a really silly reason, but the rest of the new cast have pretty good resemblances to originals, Simon Pegg seems a really odd choice to me. That said I'm sure he'll do a great job and it'll work fine, just not who I'd have gone with.
I wish Trek-websites would give the Shatner thing a rest, old Kirk evidently isn't in the story they've come with, so why should Shatner get a look in? _________________ Numerically challenged drone

Regarding the William Shatner situation, I think he is not in the movie unfortunately. Maybe J.J. Abrams and the writers will come with an idea on how to put Shatner in the script, but I found this unlikely. Shooting begins November 5th and Shatner is not in the movie.

I'll agree with that, Gustavo. The closer we get to the shooting start date the lesser the chance of Shatner being in it. But hey, if there's not a part for him in the script than that's how it goes, I guess. It'd be a shame if the story had to be sacrificed just to make room for him. And Shatner's stated that he won't do a cameo, so that's out. I'm just glad to be seeing Nimoy as Spock one last time in a substantial role.

I mean Shatner's Kirk is arguably the most popular Star Trek character of all. His fan base (of which I'm a member) is very vocal. Unfortunately, with Shatner getting older the chances of seeing him again at least one more time as James T Kirk has been greatly diminished. Not to mention a lot of those fans would like to see Kirk's (pointless) death in Star Trek Generations undone. _________________

Agreed, I am really happy that Leonard is in. Just sad that Bill is not. If its not in the script now its too late really.

Well there's more room in m heart for Spock than Kirk, so Spock from two eras is cool, though if it had just been young Spock that would have been just as dandy. I think you guys need more faith in the new guy who's playing Kirk, it's the character that's important, who plays them is irrelevant (as long as they do a good job) otherwise a recast wont work at all. Kirk is Kirk, not (necessarily) Shatner. _________________ Numerically challenged drone

Kirk is my favorite character so I'm very happy to see him in this new incarnation. The fact that Kirk and Spock have been recast for a new generation elevates these characters to the level of Superman or James Bond. They've become icons that transcend the decades. _________________

Why, thank you. When I first heard about this new movie I was VERY skeptical. To me, William Shatner WAS Captain Kirk and Leonard Nimoy WAS Mr Spock. Now that the concept has grown on me I've come to realize that these characters have become bigger than the actors who portrayed them. After this film is released Shatner and Nimoy will no longer "own" these characters. That doesn't mean they'll be forgotten or replaced in our hearts. They'll more than likely become what Sean Connery did with Bond: The ones all others will be compared to. That's a good thing, I think. _________________

I agree, I always thought a recast was a bad idea. But mostly because it implied remake like Battlestar Galactica where they're starting from scratch with the original idea but in a whole other way. However this recast seems to be within the continuity of the existing franchise, and the cast they have seems to fit the roles so well, so faithfully to the originals. I 'm very confident it's going to work well. _________________ Numerically challenged drone
