Sorry, I was soooooo disappointed in how Buffy season 8 turned out.

Call me a heretic, but if I hadn't have known already I would never have guessed that was written by Joss (sorry mate).

It just didn't feel like Buffy at all. A few nice lines, but the general story, complete with 'retcon's just turned me off I'm afraid.

I'm more looking forward to Angel season 6 and Shadow puppets myself.

Ok....your a heretic:)

Now call me a taxi......Smile

I know what you mean about the Buffy. Its strange. I really wanted to like it, and there were elements that did appeal to me, but overall I've enjoyed the Angel line more.

However we are only 4 issues in, so maybe things will start to improve after a few more issues. I think the first 4 issues were just a re-introduction to the characters, and to show where they are now.

Luckily becuase Angel has been in the comic world much more recently, and the events of NFA are so fresh in evryones mind, after just one issue I think we can move straight into the new story, or the contunuation of what happens.

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one then. I really, really wanted to enjoy it, but just didn't.

I suppose it didn't help that the story was over run with those bloody awful Potentials again. Still can't see Joss's fascination with them!

I like Buffy season 8. It's good cheesy entertainment in the mood of season 1. Heroes look young and innocent. Buffy and Willow fight their former classmate. The shipping element is developed in fairy-tale atmosphere ("kiss of true love").

I suppose people are disappointed because they were expecting something more substantial. But I think Joss was aiming at commercial success, not substance. At least in the beginning. Maybe later he'll introduce more mature stuff, like he did in the later seasons of the show.

Well ironically enough I'm hoping that when another writer takes over the reins, that the comic will develop a bit more and even out.

I hate all this 'youth angle', which may not make any sense I know, but Buffy and co should be growing up, both visually and mentally, not growing down.

I can't help suspect thats why we're seeing less of characters like Giles, and why Ethan was chosen to be killed off.

They're not young and pretty and don't look good in skintight outfits jumping out of helicopters.

What me bitter?!

I, for one, have really enjoyed Buffy Season 8. The dialogue sparkled, we got giant Dawn, dry leader Xander and it had a real A New Hope/Return of the Jedi-feel about it.

Angel Season 6 should be fantastic too (I always liked Angel's show most), I really think speculation is moot at this point, I am sure it will be areally satisfying comic and that's good enough for me.

If I were to speculate, I wouldn't be surprised if Angel was just escorted by all those demons and monsters at the end back to Wolfram and Hart, which had already been rebuilt, and he found it had all been in vain he was still CEO and the senior partners were on reflection pleased with his housekeeping of the Black Thorn lol.

Although I am loving season 8 of Buffy beyond anything rational, I have to agree with you about all those damn potentials. I like the "idea" of Buffy having an army, I just don't want to hear about who they are or see their problems.
What Buffy needed was an army of bots. No feelings, no real thoughts, etc...

I don't think she needed an army at all really.

Buffy to me was always about taking the 'intimate' in storylines and making it 'big' if you see what I mean.

These bloody Potentials clutter up the joint, and get in the way of any real development of the main characters. I don't want to know more about some girl who I've never heard off until I picked that comic up, that can come later, I just want to know more about the thoughts and feelings of the main group, not 'Doris' and her mates, who will always come across as canon fodder however hard Joss tries to make then appear otherwise.

Hah! I never thought of that. I kind of like it.

Count me in on the disappointed with Buffy season eight. I liked Giant Dawn, and a few lines of dialogue but Willow is like a mother to her?
????
Warren was never killed????
If it was a fic I would think, "Well that's really a stretch!"

And the kiss of true love thing I found to be childish and pointless. A bit insulting really. What are we collectively twelve?

Wow, this turned out to be more negative than I thought it would be.

Apologies to those that are happy with the comic, continue to enjoy.

I'm enjoying season 8 very much.I really missed these characters. For me Angel and his cast never went away because IDW started publishing their Angel line about a year after the final episode of Ats.So I haven't had a chance to miss them.

I look at the first arc as the first episode.Buffy's premieres usually weren't the strongest episodes of the season. This first arc was all set up and now having read over all four issues at once,I like the set up.

I also like that the tone isn't exactly like season 6-7 which was too relentlessly dark and depressing for me. Joss said in one of his interviews promoting season 8,that it wouldn't be like season 6-7.That he was going for more a sense of fun.To me seasons 2,3 and 5 pulled that off while having heavy stuff and weren't any less mature.I think that's what he's going for.But I think we need more then just the first arc to really see that.As the season progresses,I'm sure things will get heavier just like on the show.

I'm very excited for the Faith arc and can't wait to see Drew Goddard's issues with Xander and Dawn in Japan.Next issue dealing with one of the decoy Buffy's is really getting me intrigued now that more info on that issue has come out.

The more global feel is also exciting to me.Plus the comic creators he's lined up has me drooling alongside the former show writers.

I would of prefered a returned Adam as Amy's boyfriend over a returned skinless Warren since I'm not as thrilled now with bringing dead characters back but I'm willing to see where this goes.

I'm sad to see Ethan go but I also wouldn't be surprised if he shows up again in some way post death.

And I won't lie,I loved that Joss wipped away Buffy/The Immortal and showed that Andrew is still the storyteller. And the way he did it was very Jossian too.lol

So I'm really enjoying myself so far with season 8 and can't wait for Angel season 6 to start so we have both Buffy and Angel back in canon.
