Me-again, I've recently been binding my arah- yearbooks- and special missions in chronological order. In doing this- I've had the opportunity to reread hama's special missions. Now- back in the day- I didn't really enjoy these as it was Arab's subplots that kept me interested. But- now- I tend to enjoy the majority quite a lot. Most seem to have more plot to them and I enjoy seeing the lesser known members of both teams. Not to mention that many have a more realistic quality. I know larry has said he would be interested in doing a special mission or two- so- why not give it a try? I don't know how sales on arah compare to the revamped titles but I know it was selling better than some. I'd really like two classic titles and two revamped series. I mean- I like snake-eyes as much as the next guy but does he really need his own title? Maybe he does but i-personally- would enjoy a sister comic for arah but I also realize you don't want to drown the franchise with too many titles. I'm just expressing my morning desires- feel free to ignore. Have a great day- everyone! _________________ Thank-you IDW for supporting G.I. Joe: the revamp and ARAH. Who is this Arab gentlemen of which you speak? LOL
I was kind of expecting you to participate in our anniversary reading, cashel. Unfortunately we have finished up reading the Special Missions, but we are in the middle of the Battle of Benzheen so feel free to stop by and give your thoughts.
As far as an IDW ARAH Special Missions, I would be all for that, but maybe later in the future. I want to hold issue #200 in my hands first. That is the goal. That is the dream. Hopefully in just under 2 years from now it will be a reality. |

I love Special Missions, but personally, for the time being, I'd prefer for Larry Hama to focus on making the main title as awesome as possible. Let's make the current ARAH issues as high a quality as the best from Marvel's SM run.
Here's a general rundown on how the reopening of the Hamaverse has been for me so far:
#155.5 - #156 -
#157 - #160 -
#161 -
#162 - #165 -
#166 - #177 -
#178 - #179 -
If we could get more consistently in ARAH, then maybe reopening SM would be a good idea, but until then... _________________ 30 Years of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero! 1982 - 2012 |

Yes, please. more special Missions
The best books of the new ARAH have been the specialized ones where a team of Joes (ice, air, water, tanks, etc) are fighting Cobra. so more of that type of writing is what makes Joe books great not Brainwave scanners & Blue Ninjas. But flying tank battles in the snow. kidding. you know what I mean. _________________ GI Joe comic fan since 1982

Shane- I agree with you that holding 200 will be a dream come true. Even though I haven't liked the revival as much as some of the marvel series- I'm glad its back. The first run just ended too abruptly plus we had two bad fill-in issues before 155. That sucked after buying the book religiously since the second grade. I'm just greedy- I want a sister title for arah exploring lesser used characters. I'm still buying the revamp titles but it still isn't g I Joe for me. I should try and participate in the marathon- as long as there's no running. _________________ Thank-you IDW for supporting G.I. Joe: the revamp and ARAH. Here's to forty-nine years of adventure! |

Here is an interest thought I just had. What if IDW's Joe business plan is based off having 4 series running all the time. Or at the minimum 3. IDw continuity headed for a slow down/cut down on the series, which could leave a space for a new series. I am sure Hama wouldn't mind another pay check for another series.
It's possible, we did get the Annual which was kind of surprise.
And special missions has always been a favorite of the fans even DDP's issues were often better then the regular series. _________________ GI Joe comic fan since 1982

Good day, Cashel! I think I'd read a new Spec Missions title, but if it happens I hope Larry or whoever will write it will be more realistic in writing it. Some of the Spec Missions overdid dogfighting as a plot device, and IMVHO they overused too many of the new characters then (especially Chuckles!) . Far better to use Scarlett, Lady Jaye and Jinx on purely solo espionage missions that will really test how good they supposedly are without either Snake Eyes or Flint.
If they opt for team missions, I hope they'll structure it after Mission Impossible. In that series, no character was there just for the sake of being there. The missions were also structured to take advantage of each IMF Member's skill.
Marvel and DDP's Spec Missions often were haphazard in picking the Joes for a mission. They should have been more serious about it. _________________ "Let us renew our faith and our hope. We have every right to dream heroic dreams!"
