Unlike G1 Beast Wars didn't have any other media alongside the show such as comics, so the show's canon is BW canon as far as i'm concerned. True BW comics do exist but convention books and those such as IDW that were done retroactively don't really count in the same way. _________________

Well, that's your personal canon then. But everything released with Hasbro's approval/consent IS considered canon. It may not fit together or be in the same continuity, but it is "official". The Sourcebooks attempted to wrap everything up under the same umbrella, with clearly dubious results.
All the Beast Wars comics basically form splinter continuities and timelines. None of them are less or more "real" than the others. It's simply up to you to decide which one you like best. _________________ Everything is okay to print.

Personally I liked BW a lot. I loved the 1st season designs, didn't care for the transmetal looks but the story was good IMO. Would love to see a story of them but keep the original looks as it fits the disguise part a lot better. _________________ Ok to print!

It's easy to get the impression that the BW Sourcebooks were done in a hurry, to try and catch the hype surrounding the 10th Anniversary.
Sure, they tried to highlight a few new and interesting characters in them at the expense of more beloved ones, and the artwork had moments of extreme face-palming, but at the end of the day, it might just be the last BW-related bit of print we see for a long while.
TF Wiki paraphrases Hasbro by saying that the Aligned Continuity has the "intention of being the foundation of most Transformers projects for the decade to come".
Hasbro are in love with TF: Prime and IDW are up to their ears in work with MTMTE, RID, ReGen 1 and Autocracy 2. If anyone is hoping for anything remotely BW-inclined in the next few years, you're kidding yourself.
What I'm trying to say is that while the BW Sourcebooks aren't perfect, at least we got them. _________________

Here's to hoping that ReGeneration leads us into the future---the great war is over and Maximals and Predacons have to deal with 'Megatron' and his rise to power and getting to Earth for the Beast Wars.
That or some type of BW comic that takes place somewhere between BW and BM that explains how Megs got into power again. Could just scrap BM all together and do a whole new storyline. |

At the Regen panel at Auto Assembly last year, in regards to the possibility of good sales leading to a longer run than to simply issue one hundred, Simon Furman said; "No. It wouldn't be possible. After issue one hundred it will be done. No follow up, no Beast Wars, nothing." _________________

Furman doesn't write what someone else tells him to. Furman writes what he wants! _________________

Is this like one of those Chuck Norris lines? "When Furman coughs, words fall out and assemble themselves on the page"?

I did mean it in all seriousness. I doubt IDW asked Furman to continue the Marvel storyline. What's more likely is that he went to IDW with the idea of continuing/culminating the series with a 20 issue run, to capitalise on the popularity of the franchise.
If only IDW were open to such approaches from outsiders _________________

They're not because that's a HORRIBLE way of doing business.
"I wanna write for your licensed series!"
"Great. Who are you, exactly?"
"An unknown outsider with little to no experience in comics! But hey, I REALLY like this franchise, and I think I could tell great stories with it!"
The reason that Furman got a job writing Transformers in the 80's was because he was approached about it. It's been the same for twenty years since; they're not going to accept random unsolicited pitches unless you've done or are doing something amazing. _________________ Okay to print!

No need to lecture me mate. I fully understand the need for IDW to have such a policy in place. _________________

All good mate
On a more Beast Wars related note, I've always felt some Spotlight-style issues would go a long way to fleshing out the BW (TV) universe. The BW (Comic) universe has done its dash. _________________

Why is that hard to believe? They've been publishing a continuation of the Marvel GI Joe series by Larry Hama for over two years. It's apparently successful, so why wouldn't they try it again with their other big Hasbro property? _________________ Cattleprod's guide to upcoming releases.
