I normally avoid previews but I had to view at least one page. Freakin' gorgeous! I can't believe there are people who don't like Cal's art. _________________ Need to buy, rent or sell a home in DC or Northern VA, then contact me at realtorva@verizon.net |

I'm not normally either for or against - it's not my favorite style - but in this case, it worked VERY well, both with the mood and the action. I got so psyched I went to get the issue YESTERDAY, forgetting it wouldn't be in stores until TODAY! _________________ ~CSV

The RI cover looks like Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow are fencing... I'm thinking of the swordfight scene in The Princess Bride...

I really love all the covers especially the RI as it is 1 of 3 covers that make a truly AMAZING picture IMO. But on the issue alone I chose the B cover. _________________ Author: Karate is Self-Defense Available at Amazon.com. Kindle Version Coming Soon. |

Pretty decent issue. I still hate the shortened codenames...Seriously Road? No dip stick it's Roadblock... also the art looked real weird in several places. I was hoping for a bit more I guess. I hope it ends better.
Dixon seems to start off well but then falls flat at the end of an arc. I think I'm about done with his books. I'll see where SE and SS will be going... _________________ Author: Karate is Self-Defense Available at Amazon.com. Kindle Version Coming Soon. |

Best part was Snakeyes and storm shadows join forces to avenge the death of a ninja master by zartan ordered by cobra commander. Sound familiar?
Worst part...we are eight issues into this storyline with one finale and we still have yet to see a major battle of joes vs cobras. |

Agreed! This is exactly what happened at the end of Cobra Civil War... The ending came out of nowhere. _________________ Author: Karate is Self-Defense Available at Amazon.com. Kindle Version Coming Soon. |

Yep, I completely agree with this. I was re-reading the entire IDW Joe series recently and noticed that there are very few full on, tactical engagements between the two sides.
Having read some of Dixon's other work, I know that he's great at portraying tactical, squad level combat, which would be ideal for the Joe books. But the action scenes we do get often feel a little flat. They tend to be of the 'show characters A and B stood in a cool pose, shooting off panel' variety for the most part, which just aren't that exciting. Every now and then we've been given a good scene, such as Flint's team vs the B.A.T in Springfield. That had detailed dialogue, with the team communicating and using military terminology as well as the team scrambling for cover and using squad level tactics to try to overcome the threat. As a result it felt much more engaging to me, and I'd love to see more of that level of detail.
It often feels as if any scenes other than those depicting combat take precedence in the books. We'll happily spend 3 or 4 pages on Mainframe feeling awkward around Scarlett, only to cut back to the aftermath of a battle which has happened 'off screen'. I know we all like the characterisation of the Joes, but it seems as if the weighting may be off a little to me, and more page time should be given to the battle scenes, to really give them room to shine. |

Snake Eyes wants to avenge Satori or he agrees to help SS avenge Satori so he can get at the Commander?
I honestly can't see SE caring about a guy like Satori. |

So far, it seems like he's going out of his way to avoid it. My guess is the "writing for the trade paperback" approach is why battle scenes are being sacrificed. He's got to keep the plot moving to fit the 5 issue format of a tpb. _________________ Need to buy, rent or sell a home in DC or Northern VA, then contact me at realtorva@verizon.net |

But this was a 9 part series... _________________ Author: Karate is Self-Defense Available at Amazon.com. Kindle Version Coming Soon. |

But this was a 9 part series... | He seems unwilling to give of us an action heavy issue but I can definitely see multiple plot points being addressed in each issue. So my only guess is that the Cobra Command TPB's may only be 3 issues long (9 parts divided by 3 books). Anyway, it's only a theory about what's going on. _________________ Need to buy, rent or sell a home in DC or Northern VA, then contact me at realtorva@verizon.net |
