I've heard so many people say Trypticon is the better of the two City bots but personally I don't like the Tryp toy, he just looks like a Zoid.

I never owned either (Jetfire, Ultra Magnus, and Powermaster Optimus Prime were the only 3 big ones I had) but Trypticon just never appealed to me. Looked like no articulation, and just too bulky of a dinosaur.

I always wanted Metroplex, and REALLY wanted Fortress Maximus.

Years later, when I heard about the scramble city thing, I became interested in Metroplex again. Especially when, more recently, I learned that the central robots in the scramble city combiners (which would be Aerialbots, Stunticons, Combaticon, Protectobots, my personal favorites the Technobots, and... shouldn't there be another Decepticon one?) could transform into small bases too (like Motormaster, who even has a car that uses him as a base).

Anybody know of any good pictures of the scramble city thing, and all of the bases made of the combiners?

I don't believe the Technobots were in the Scramble City, but if. You're looking for the other G1 combiners, obviously the Constructicons, Predaconsm Seacons and Terrorcons?

I knew that Motormaster unfolded with space for his lil car which was also the shield on Menasaur, or the Constructicons weapons formed with the Devastator chest plate to make a 'ship', but I struggle to think of any other bases, asides maybe Onslaught acting as a vehicle carrier/weapons platform?

I DO however know that these scramble city combiners were meant to be played with the cities, with docking places and scaled size for the other smaller figures though?

There were the Constructicons first, then after the scramble city ones were the Predacons, Seacons, etc., however I think the Aerialbots, Stunticons, Combaticons, Protectobots, and Technobots all fall under scramble city in that they were all meant to kind of go together with Metroplex and Trypticon (as shown in the bases' instructions, but not the separate figures') (I think...) and the center piece had a base mode:
Aerialbots: Silverbolt: Concorde Jet and Base/Launcher
Stunticons: Motormaster: Tractor trailer and Base/Repair Bay
Combaticons: Onslaught: Anti-aircraft truck and Base/Gun Emplacement
Protectobots: Hot Spot: Fire engine and Base/Repair Bay
Technobots: Scattershot: Jet and Cannon

Wasnt Scorponok a city too? He was a bigger toy then Metroplex. In fact I think of the three toys Metroplex was the smallest. But not by much.

Personally I loved Metroplex. Tryp wasnt available here. Scorponok was.

The two "big" Tfs I have now are Ultimate Optimus Prime and MP Skywarp.

I think Scorponok was just a warship. As i've only seen him put next to Fort Max hes always seemed tiny to me.

No I think he was a city of sorts too. Fort Max was the biggest TF I think. Everything was tiny compared to that guy. Laughing

I remember them, in the cartoons and in toy releases, being paired up.
So, to me as a kid (and now...), it was always Metroplex and Trypticon, and Scorponok and Fortress Maximus (plus, they were both headmasters).

Scorponok was huge as was Fort Max.

Yes I would definitely pair Fort Max with Scorpy and Metroplex with Trypticon.

It was a pity the original Galvatron didnt pair up as well with an original Rodimus.

I have Universe Prowl and I really like that figure a lot. I'm a Prowl fan in general, so I'm somewhat biased, but I think it's a nice, clean figure that does a great job of mixing the original design with modern engineering, and nicely incorporates his extras (like the rockets on his shoulders) into the transformation.

Have leader figures ever been so mismatched since?

Dont know. I have both figures now and in terms of size they do match up. I have the battle in space Rodimus who came with Cyclonus and Generations Galvatron. In terms of size they match up well.
