You have mentioned a few times that sales aren't as high as expected. What are IDW's expectations for these comics sales-wise? Both the issues and trades are consistently in the top 200 for monthly sales and at least from www.idwpublishing.com, it looks to be doing better than some of the series that IDW regularly pushes/advertises, while the big G spends most of his time buried below stacks of Star Trek and Doctor Who comics in the solicitations or weekly release postings.

I'd personally like sales to be over 12K, but at LEAST at the 10K mark. That's nice and safe.

I'd say we've been advertising Godzilla a lot this year. We did advance Previews of both series, full page ads, interviews, etc.

Bobby- Another great issue! Keep them all coming! Really enjoyed it!

Every month you are leaving me wanting more and more and more!

PLEASE KEEP TAKING MY MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laughing

Also would it help in the reaction threads for each issue we start putting polls in so people can rate the issues either out of 5 or out of 10?

Cool, glad you guys enjoyed the issue. I think issue 4 might be my least favorite issue (it's got cool stuff, but..) only because there is really awesome stuff coming up! (Simon's Kiryu MechaG is awesome!)

Great to hear, Bobby!
Also, do you have any plans for King Ghidorah soon? He's still lurking somewhere... Wink
And great job on the bonus guest essays! I always look forward to reading them (Lindsay's one is my favorite so far)! Do you still have plans to showcase behind-the-scenes art like you mentioned in issue #1?

I'm seeing some open discussion of sales figures here, so I'm tempted to ask - if Bobby feels inclined and happy to divulge - how do sales of trade collections and digital copies seem? Are they factoring into any of the decision making that's going on behind the scenes?

I'm curious about this for two reasons. Firstly, I know a few folks who have bought the trades as a blind buy - specifically Gangsters And Goliaths and Legends - and thought they were great.

I also managed to persuade a few friends to register with Comixology to take a peek at IDW's Godzilla stuff. So it seems to me that there must be SOME casual customer base for these books.

(I always find it fascinating to hear how a book performs digitally in comparison to the print editions, too.)

I've been wondering this as well. I doubt I'll get an answer, but will he appear in Godzilla Ongoing? I'm still unsure of what happened to him in KOM.

You will see Ghidorah in one form or another in early 2013!

HDE, that's a good question, but I don't know the answer. I'm don't have access to the digital numbers, and I haven't checked collections numbers in ages.

Sorry I can't be more help!

Oh, and Kurt-- thanks for the nice words on the back-up essays. That's actually the first compliment I've got about them... I HAVE heard a couple complaints. They're a lot of work to put together, and with the lack of positive response I've discontinued them. Not worth the effort, or so I thought!

I'll put in some artwork in upcoming issues, though!

No worries, Bobby - I know it can be tough information to come by. Thanks for the reply!

Ah ha! So he IS that secret weapon that issue 7 was talking about!...

Or, ya know, could be Gigan... Could be Destoroyah... Could be SpaceGod-- *shot*

...

Wait a sec. Issue 5 comes out in September. Meaning that issue 7 is in November... So Ghidorah won't be appearing until between issues 9-12... Darn it! XD

Hence my speculation that the body "vanished" in one way or another. I rather liked the rebirth of Mothra take as a life sucking space monster, like a three headed Galactus.

Or, ya know, he just took off into space off-panel. That's my bet.
