Well that's me all done with these HC's for now

Volumes 1 to 4 covers all the Furman era, whilst Volume 5 does McCarthy.

I have no plans to collect any of Costa's stuff

Drift is already in V4, the Wreckers HC acts as my V6, which leaves the Ironhide mini and Chaos Theory trades to sit on their lonesome.

I'm doing pretty well at work lately, and guess what, my resolve to only collect the HC Collections I really really like (1 through 4 and whenever the Barber/Roberts era makes it in) is weakening somewhat.

Then I remember how bad some of the content is. Smile

At least I'd only be paying for it the once - I rarely buy my own singles (meaning I borrow someone else's! No piracy for me) and didn't buy the trades for anything after the AHM era. And there is some good in each HC volume. But still... Super Spike? Bumblebee? International Incident? That astoundingly stupid vampire zombie thing in Galvatron's army in Infestation? Yeesh.

So looks like V8 will be: Chaos Theory, Heart of Darkness, Police Action and Chaos. That's sixteen issues. Maybe they'll cram in Mike's swansong one-shot Pax Cybertronica too, clear the decks for the RID/MTMTE era to begin with v9. A volume which I will be all over like a tramp on chips.

I think keeping Pax Cybertronica as part of Volume 9 might be best, given how it's referenced in the first arc (eventually) of RID. Be interesting to see how they weave in and out of both books, but I reckon volume 9 (thematically) could fit Autocracy, DoOP, MTMTE 1 - 5, Pax Cybertronica, RID 1-5 and be a tasty volume indeed!

I think I would prefer v. 9 to be DoOP plus MTMTE#1-13 and the annual, then RID #1-14 and the annual for v. 10.

I do hope they won't do something like DoOP, MTMTE#1, then RID#1, then back to MTMTE#2.. and so forth. Shocked

While these HCs are supposed to be a suggested reading order, and you wouldn't want to go too far into one ongoing before catching up with the other, I reckon they'll stick with blocks. Pax Cybertronica (1), DoOP (1), MTMTE 1-5 (5), RID 1-5 (5) and Autocracy (100 pages = about 4.5 issues) would make for a wondrous v9 Smile

Theres just something so good about Soundwave's head sculpt here that almost makes it my number one favourite cover over Galvatron (HC3), Almost.

See, that's another reason my resolve is weakening, the books are just so lovely to look at Very Happy

Man I had V5 actually on order at Amazon but cancelled it when I remembered about the human characters (including the summary dispatch of Hunter) and the random art changes in later issues.

Now I am remembering the good bits: the Megs/Starscream dynamic, Roadbuster, Cliffjumper, Ironhide, Skywarp and Thundercracker...

I guess I am worried that, if I weaken and order #5, I will be more likely to weaken and order #6 through #8 despite my opinion of the McCarthy era being way above the Costa one...

I'm working like a loon at the moment and earning money for it... so I could well buy them just to fill the gap between #4 and #9 (Roberts/Barber)...

I strongly dispute Ironhide's character being a good part of AHM. He's angry, unpleasant and argumentative, and then he almost beats Mirage to death. He gets half a chewing out from Kup and that's it. It's only addressed when he tries to apologise to Mirage, who understandably doesn't want to talk to him- but any character development is utterly undone when Mirage just jumps back in to save Ironhide (just one of dozens of instances which serve to thoroughly undermine the Swarm as a threat, to the point at which you are never in any doubt that every Autobot minus Sunstreaker is going to make it out alive. And even that... hnnnnn).
