Hey Chris,
I apologize if this question has been asked already, but how are TFs picked to be in spotlight?
Is it marketability? or do you take in fans' wants/requests?
Or is is strictly because the character's story will further/add to what Simon is doing in the mainstream title? _________________ -Always OK to Print. |

I say the third is the strongest possibility. That or I just want to believe that's true. _________________

Probably safer than naming your firstborn Pipes!
I reckon Simon picks characters he likes to star in spotlights and the mainstream G1 comic. Nightbeat is a longstanding favourite (of mine too) and Hot Rod appeared at Prime's side a lot in Simon's Marvel stories. Shockwave is a big name attraction and so is Magnus - and I'd say both are favoured SF characters going off past stories. The only anomoly is Sixshot, which I reckon was Simon deciding to have a go at fleshing out a new character. It's ironic this one wasn't as well received as the other spotlights. Personally I liked it. _________________ Steve

Some of the supporting characters can be hugely inffluential in a single spotlight too. There's plenty of Grimlock, Doubledealer, and Skorponok to make an impact, too.
Is Outback close enough to Pipes pour vous? |

Which Marvel issues have Hot Rod in it with Prime, I've only read a handful of the Marvel run. |

we'll see how much Outback plays in Spotlight: Kup. There may be flashbacks, or just his haunting metallic carcass... _________________ Twitter: @lukeabarnett

One that comes to mind is Dark Creation (UK #293). Prime is apprehensive about the outcome of the Matrix Quest and Hot Rod is counselling him, just before Thunderwing steps out of the shuttle. A couple of issues later (in Surrender) Kup's convinced Prime's lost it as a leader, but Hot Rod remains loyal. _________________ Steve

no... I need Pipes, although it is good to see any of the mini-bots used that are outside of the first wave... _________________ -Always OK to Print. |

Yeah, basically any comic Furman wrote with Prime as Autobot leader, from his writing debut with US #56 to the end of Generation 2 had HotRod in there, and Kup to some extent, too. |

Looking back on the already released Spotlights, they are characters who Furman wanted to tinker with and/or thought didn't get enough lovin' in the past.
Ideally:
Cosmos in the style of a 1950's Sci-Fi camp "epic",
Beachcomber in a moral dilemma about whether to fight or not,
Hun-Grr and his boys as intergalactic pirates (Spotlight: Terrorcons?),
Vector Sigma in a sort of "Exiles" style story. _________________ Ohh 'Eck! |

I'm guessing he comes up with the basic story, and then the character that best fits the situation.
Regenisis - Shockwave
Ark mystery - Night Beat
Super Spy - Hot Rod
Reapers - Sixshot
Rogue Transformers - Ultra Magnus _________________

Regenisis - Shockwave
Ark mystery - Night Beat
Super Spy - Hot Rod
Reapers - Sixshot
Rogue Transformers - Ultra Magnus |
How's this:
Where did the Ore-13 come from?: Shockwave
Alternative Matrices: Hot Rod
A Universe of terrors: Sixshot
The Mysteries of Histories: Nightbeat
Exploration of what it means to be a Decepticon: Also Sixshot
The Rules of Engagement: Magnus
Malicious Machinations?: Magnus (again)
Assumeably:
MORE Terrors of the Universe: Kup
MORE Malicious Machinations: Soundwave
MORE Historical Horrors: Galvatron
therefore:
MORE Alternative Matrices: Unknown Autobot or Galvatron. _________________ Ohh 'Eck! |

Primarily, it's been characters that we hadn't had a chance to focus on yet AND who would play a part in upcoming storylines. KUP came to us out of the blue from Nick, and one of them coming up isn't necessarily an obscure character but I asked to see it, and now it's become a necessary piece in the overall story.
Some of them, like Shockwave and Soundwave, were also heavily requested by fans.
But, um, I can't say that there's any plans for a Pipes story... _________________ Chris Ryall
