Sure- arah is a nostalgic comic but it can't survive on that alone. In my opinion- things need to be shook up. Ever since the blue ninjas left- it's been great and I look very forward to the benzien (sp?) Storyline. I feel like those countries are actual characters of arah. But I'd enjoy seeing big lasting plot elements that drive the overall plot forward. That's what I loved back in the day- big revelatios- change- new members- sub-plots-characters dying- you never knew what to expect. I love seeing past events followed up on but it's also fun to have pale peony join the continuity. I believe we need to see old favorites but new favorites as well. Just my opinion.

Dude,
No one but you cares for that to happen, which is why you're being ignored.
Bumping your own thread won't help much. You don't even have a "16 man army" with you on this one. Let it go.

I'd love to see some more long-lasting sub-plots and sweeping arcs that move along from issue to issue. The latest issues have certainly been a step in the right direction, with things moving along in several places.

As for new characters, I'm a bit weary on them. Pretty much every comic-exclusive character brought in since the Marvel days have been nothing but horrible. I'd prefer reimagining old characters or especially bringing in the toys that have gotten little to no exposure yet.

I'm all for changing the status quo, as long as it's done delicately. ARAH is a nostalgia title, and if it moves too far away from the old Marvel days to resemble IDWs own continuity or similar the purpose of the title is defeated. New characters should maybe be designed along with Hasbro so that they actually get figure representations and don't stick out like a sore thumb.

All for killing off characters, too, as long as it's not ones who are difficult/impossible to replace (Lady Jaye). Also, the death issues should be meaningful. Note, the issues should be meaningful, not necessarily the deaths themselves. Some of the best deaths in Joe were great because they were so unnecessary, like the SAW Viper gunning down unarmed Joes due to an error in communication. When the issues are memorable, it doesn't matter if the character who got killed was actually a completely useless guy (Sneak-Peek). What was the point in DDP killing off guys like Rampart and Tracker so callously when they barely had two pages worth of appearances between them in the whole series?

Okay, if you really want us to weigh in on your post, here goes.

It's not surviving on that alone. It's surviving because of the quality storytelling and art.

If it's been great and you're enjoying it, why the need for a shake-up?

The Blue Ninja story... Billy's death... Darklon's capture, imprisonment and escape... The Virtual Krytron story unfolding right now... Aren't these all big plot elements that are driving the story forward?

You mean, nostalgia?

big revelations-

Sneak-Peek being alive... Darklon being alive... Dr. Venom's soul/mind in Billy's body... Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow delivering Billy's body to Cobra Commander...

change-

Cobra moving to the west coast... A possible realignment of Cobra's command hierarchy...

new members-

Topside... Blizzard... Cold Front... Pale Peony... the Blue Ninjas... Storm Shadow's aunt...

sub-plots-

Sneak-Peek's undercover mission to Darklonia... Clutch and Rock n' Roll discovering the new Cobra HQ... Zarana and Roadpig capturing Pale Peony... Them working with Zartan in Benzheen...

characters dying-

Billy...

Do you think the current run of stories is predictable?

That's basically the IDW-verse G.I. Joe. Cobra has always been the superior force in Dixon and Costa's books, with the Joes scrambling to catch up.

All of those things you say you want -- you're getting from the book right now! G.I Joe has always been about introducing new characters and situations. The only status quo since 1982 is the thematic battle of good (Joe) versus evil (Cobra), and that's not going to change. The characters, locations, vehicles, dangers, those things change all the time, practically from month-to-month. So why does it need to be shaken up?

But if things changed then you'd complain about it straying to far from the "origional spirit" of the marvel run.

I probably posted poorly. I didn't mean to garner the vibes I got on this one. I was just saying I would enjoy more permanent change like furman on regen. But I guess I'm in the minority- none-the-less- I will not be bothering Mr. Dixon anymore. And I have enjoyed hama's current work I just miss the sub-plots of old such as who killed the hard-master. But it's obvious my words tend to irritate the other fans. So I'll try to remain a lurker for awhile.
