Just a head up Im doing a new art contest for the Christmas Holidays. I need character suggestions for what sketch I will do on Christmas day.

Contest details can be found here! "I Want You!"....to take some free art off my hands! Check out the link below...

I can't get to the contest at work... but I'd love to see a "tribute cover" styled piece based on a beloved Christmas image. Perhaps not the Nativity - too fraught, that - but maybe Rockwell? I know I saw a DC parody of the iconic "Freedom from Want" Thanksgiving piece... though it could work for Christmas, too.

For something more traditionally Christmas -

Christmas Rush

"...We came in our new Plymouth!"

Santa with Elves (I'd love to see you do a self portrait of yourself as Santa, and make the elves the characters you most love to draw...)

Other ideas: A comics-character version of that last scene in "A Charlie Brown Christmas," or perhaps the classic image from "It's a Wonderful Life":

Or the flagpole scene from A Christmas Story!

snakeyes and scarlett kissing under the mistletoe, at his cabin, home for the holidays

You can include santa hat, weapons on the mantle, Timber near the fireplace on an ariskage rug, and christmas tree in the background if you like.

Both FANTASTIC Ideas! I love Rockwell's work especially. This seems like a perfect fit. I just need to find the right image and replace it with great GIJoe or comic book related characters!!!!

Personally this idea has my vote.

Big happy smile here, just for the note! Smile

I'm with the Rev - if you're going to do Rockwell, the Santa and Elves would be my pick. Replace the house with a work-in-progress, as though you'd dozed off trying to make that last deadline before the holidays; perhaps have a big, floppy Santa hat on, since I doubt you look much like Good St. Nick... <G>

The toys at the base could be replaced by other images, perhaps finished copy, fallen to the floor, being stacked up by helpful character-elves. Perhaps inject a bit of humor here - Wolverine-elf, the fellow holding the bag open in the image, might have inadvertently punctured a finished sheet; the Human Torch might have set a page on fire and Aquaman could be dousing it to replace the two atop the sack. The Joe 'shipper in me would replace the paint can with mistletoe and have the Snake Eyes and Scarlett elves a bit... er... distracted, while Duke Elf glares as he's hefting inks and such into place, assisted by Green Lantern or Cap (the two carrying the doll).

Should I cross-post to your blog?

This could do very nicely as a self-portrait tribute cover: Yourself as Santa, with oversized hat on to cement the image, and you could replace the globe with a drafting table. Add in the characters climbing over the table - or combine the two images, and have them "helping" - and voila! Smile

Or here's another good one - the characters would replace the children, and rather than "expenses" on the book cover, perhaps "Good Characters"?
