Dear Ninja Notes Team,

I just want to start off giving props to everyone at IDW and the extended creative team, Tom, Dan, and Bobby have been doing a great job on the main title, and everyone who has worked on any of the Micro-Series books as well as the TMNT Infestation 2 mini have been hitting it out of the park! Together you guys have really built up an incredible new set of TMNT mythos that draws on homages from the past as well as adds a whole new unique layer of its own to the mythos. I just read the Splinter Micro-Series book and issue #11 and was blown away by both! Wilson’s art complimented Burnham’s writing perfectly, the Splinter book was gorgeous, I hope to see these 2 team-up again in the near future on another Micro-Series book.

Issue #11 was fantastic as well!! Duncan’s art continues to blow me away each issue, and Tom’s writing has built the suspense with each new chapter. We started with a slow boil that set the stage nicely and continues to heat up all leading to what seems like a huge showdown between the Turtles, the Foot, and Krang’s army. I can’t wait to see where this goes! So happy to see the Purple Dragons brought with Angel and Casey’s past history, it’s nice to see another element of the Turtles mythos introduced; I’m really looking forward to see the new take on them. It was great getting to see more violence in the recent issues, and see the Turtles and Splinter use their weapons and actually slice and dice some enemies up, showing they are true ninjas. I can’t wait for the Splinter/Shredder showdown next issue!

Thank you again to all involved in reviving the Turtles franchise into some great! You guys have done so much for putting this franchise back on top between this incredible new series and reprints of so much of the older stuff. Many of us were worried in the fandom that we’d seen the last of the Turtles when the Tales volume 2 and the 2k3 animated series ended, instead you guys have breathed new life into the franchise and revived it to popularity once again, keep up the great work!!! We can’t get enough of it!!

PS: I hope we get to see more Tyler Walpole covers; that guy rocks!!!

Dear Ninja notes

Gotta say you guys are really doing a great job on my beloved TMNT. I especially enjoy seeing a very well done inclusion of characters from various "worlds" of the TMNT catalog.

I am really hoping to see some of my favorites come back as well, Bishop from the 2k cartoon series would be awesome. Tatsu from the movies was always a favorite of mine, as well as Slash the evil turtle from dimension X. I am also hoping the Foot elite will be depicted in some really cool way. I would also enjoy seeing Usagi Yojimbo and Genosuke pop up but since Stan Sakai is publishing Usagi under the Dark Horse title I'm not sure if that would work. Still a Turtle Fan can hope. The newer characters such as Alopex have been pretty cool as well and I really was happy to see General Tragg and Krang back and depicted in a fresh new and more serious way.

I am sad to hear Dan Duncan will be leaving, I have really enjoyed his art style, and think he did an excellent job portraying the boys in green. It is also very cool that Kevin has had such a close hand in this new line of TMNT comics. I look forward to more issues and will continue faithfully reading and collecting. I am still wondering how the whole reincarnation of Hamato Yoshi and his sons and now Oroku saki as well is gonna work and make sense. Anyway keep up the good work.

Hey folks,

Thanks to everyone who has posted here... some of you have hopefully seen your letter printed by now!

We're a little light on letters this month, so I'd love to hear some thoughts about TMNT #13, April OR Fugitoid Micros! Increased chance of being printed!

Thanks!

Hi Bobby

I've been loving the ongoing series and especially love how you guys have integrated the micro series into the greater continuity. I'm hoping the Micro series continue and we see some of the bad guys get their own issues.

Now that we've seen Slash and Fugitoid, what are the chances we'll see some other classic TMNT characters like Leatherhead or Rat King? But the ones I really want to see are the Triceratons. Hopefully our boys will run into them sometime soon.

Keep up the great work

Dear Ninja Notes,

I'm really digging how Year 2 is coming along. I love how the Turtles and Splinter really feel like a family now more than ever. Even better is how Splinter is taking Casey in too. He actually fits in like a fifth brother to me. Which if you told me that a year ago I wouldn't been so sure I would have believed, but between the Casey micro (even the Raph micro a bit) and issues 13 and 14 it has come together really organically and not "Casey is just a human that hangs out with the Turtles a lot."

Awesome job guys,

What It Do Idw Staff, Loving The Series. For Whatever Reason im enjoyin year 2 More, Don't Know What is is, Better storytelling? Andy Kuhns Art? it all Started Great With The Casey Jones Micro, onto 13# Which i Noticed The first Confirmed Kill (Karai Flashback Of Foot Rising) so far Im diggin the Direction. It Seems to have Taken a Darker Tone. I've read the whole series (minus 2# and 3# of the ongoing these are hard as a mofo to find out here in Beantown) but I'm loving the series its currently the only ongoing comic series i read (a long with the Color Classics Keep Those Going) and every issue leaves me extremely satisfied. Fugitoid micro was different but acceptable, can't wait for he Rise of the clan limited series and the annual. i can't get enough of your books Keep up the Great Work, and I'll Follow the Whole Way,

I grew up with the original cartoon show, and they quickly became my favorite characters ever. But, I never had a chance to read the original comics (and I wouldn’t have known where to begin), so when I heard about the new series, I made a bee-line for the nearest comics shop. I absolutely love this series! I grab the newest issue the day it comes out, and once I’m finished reading it, I can’t wait for more.

Having never read the first books, I’ve always wondered who this Fugitoid guy was (I only have vague recollections from the show). So, you introducing the characters they way you have has really helped me a lot. It was cool to see how all their stories intertwine.

I’m really excited to see who else you introduce. Slash was a cool character from the show I remember well. My other favorite villains are Leatherhead and the Rat King. I really hope you incorporate those guys. I always pictured Leatherhead being this unrelenting force of nature, and I thought it would be cool if the Rat King could control Splinter like he does the other rats (maybe this has already been done in the original comics?).

I do have a question: since the four turtles were actually people in a past life, will we ever learn what their names were while they lived in Japan?

Clearly, I have a lot of catching up to do, but keep up the great work, everyone! This TMNT series is fantastic!

dear turtles creative team!

I felt I needed to get around here and and share my sentiments with you about your idw turtle comic book again.I had my letter printed in issue #2 a year ago which was my first printed anything in a comic book, so thank you(for a starting cartoonist this was first taste of blood...aargh MORE!Wink..)

now in the course of these first 15 issues(just read the new #15) and the so far 8 micros as well as the annual(THANK YOU!!!!!) there were times for me where I felt left a little too early when the issue was read out...hard to describe it properly, but the story at moments seemed to not deliver ENOUGH for a reading experience for me to entertain my desires if that makes any sense.they sure were fun nontheless but I felt like you guys together were still kind of finding your own legs with this turtles vehicle.

needles to stay I sticked with the tmnt book(shell I buy so many copies of each and every book you put out (reprint and new) the fiction and me are almost blood related;)..)...TODAY: I was thrilled to read these past few issues.they dont feel 'lets leave em with the big thrill and cut to the commercials until next month' AT ALL!the story line is so rich and keeps on brooding and cooking on all plates as we go along.like so many others have stated the micros are really tremendous things!and the way they mingle wth the ongoings happenings?just awesome!
especially issues 14 and 15 have stroken it for me, I love splinters taking of mr jones and the clear announcement about the sad horrific experiences to linger somewhere in the uncertain future between the foot and the turtles.a nuclear bomb shelter under an old abandoned church with sewer exit build during the cold war?WOW!!!I mean just everything UNTIL the great scary battle with the slashing thing(slash) in nearly complete darkness was such a blast and triggered off many thoughts in my mind about the story and characters and then when we came to first contact that felt like a big bonus even!;)hahaha man I felt so good about the guys possbly getting some 'nice' food from cans out of the shelter for a change;)..and splinter's line'..aah,vegetables and rice..' was so funny and had the perfect timing to work!;)excelsior!!(if I may copy THAT line quickley;)..)
raph being serious about caseys game was a great touch and once again reminded me of how outstading tehir relationship is in your run on the turtles, since they first related to one another before any other turtle came into play.very special relationship!
there are many things to be excited about in this idw run and I only want to give my humble thanks to everyone involved!go on, make this hit absurd issue numbers!Wink...you got MY support!
I also wanted to express my strong affection for andy kuhns art work!his take on this world has come to be in a row with a.c. farleys, jim lawsons, even kevins and peters to me..by that I mean, I BELIEVE his drawings and inks.the characters work.and they do that on a very beatiful way I think!I am sorry to hear that he wont be doing the book longer(I think one more isses we have with him doing the art work right now) and that makes me sad, but I welcome the new guy on board, too!seen some of mr bates drawings and they were nice as well..here is HOPE that we'll get andy comming back for micros or some reguar issues in the future!
lastly let me quickley give some praise for the annual!that book was MUCHO fun!great little big story..and I have to say the way everything happened so spontaneously and got them in big trouble by just being outdoors a little reminded me of many great(or not so great at times) escapades I happened into with my brothers in summer nights;)...the look was sharp!thanks for duo shade paper!!!to see the savates in such big numbers was exciting, hope we get to see their story more and more, too!!peter lairds dedication(apart from the misspelling)was sweet!hope they ll coook out something for us one day together again!!

I think I said everything I set out to and now return to my books!(would be awesome to have that letter printed again but I realize it is a tad long;)...)
see you next month, compadres!

greetings from munich!

Ninja Notes Team,

Just read #16 and am very pleased with the conclusion of another great arc. This was a fantastic story by Mr. Waltz, it had some great character development moments, as we saw not only the turtles grow, but the characters and settings around them grow and change throughout the story. Glad to see Woody is okay, but it’s a shame Mikey lost a friend. I think he’s really looking hard for a good friend outside the family for a connection with the surface world. Raph has Casey, and while I wouldn’t call Mikey jealous of that relationship, I would say it seems like as the youngest and most compassionate of the Turtles, he is definitely looking for that type of friendship outside of the family.

My favorite part of this arc was definitely the introduction and characterization of Slash. Tom nailed his characterization perfectly, this pure instinct, carnal animal, tracking & hunting the turtles down. It was a fantastic take on the fan favorite Slash, and Mr. Kuhn nailed his character design with the art. Andy’s art has continued to improve and become more beautiful with each issue, and his last 2 issues were definitely his best. He did a great job drawing dynamic fight scenes and really brought out the monster in Slash.

I’m really pleased with the conclusion of the story, there was a lot of debate on whether the Turtles would kill Slash or not, and I’m really happy it went down the way it did. The Turtles were reluctant in using lethal force, and I like that the almost lethal blow was on accident. I think that was a very good lesson for the Turtles, and should hopefully have them prepared to do what’s necessary in a final showdown with Shredder.

I like the different reactions among the Turtles. Leo does what’s necessary, but still feels bad about it, that’s what separates him from a villain like Karai or Shredder. Raph is the tough guy, of course he can do the dirty work and move on. Mikey is upset and takes it pretty hard, I think that’s a very realistic take on the youngest member of the family. It’s also good to see that layer of depth added to Mikey, often times he is just seen as the screw around goofball; that sadness & seriousness adds a whole new level of character to him. And finally Donnie, man I love the attitude Tom has given him, he thinks & acts like a scientist driven by logic, he had a very Mr. Spock moment there, pointing out that the only logical way for them to stop the menace of Slash is to kill him. I think this is my favorite take on Donatello in the Turtles’ history, it really gives a new level of hardness and toughness to him, when often times he is seen as the weakest link of the four turtles.

The final thing I want to mention is a big hats off to you guys at IDW for continuing to give us fans everything we can ask for and taking it to a whole new level with IDW Limited. I just got my TMNT vol. 1 Change is Constant Red Label Hardcover this week, and that thing is gorgeous! It’s everything I could have asked for & more. I got #39, with a great Leonardo sketch by Mr. Duncan. I really hope you guys keep up this program for each arc of the TMNT ongoing, as well as the Micro-Series & Minis. I’d really like to see this program continue and hopefully include great sketches from artists like Santolouco, Kuhn, and Bates.

So thanks again to all of you Turtle guys at IDW, especially a big thank you and send off to Mr. Kuhn for his great art run on the book, I wish him the best and hope we get to see some more of him in the future!

Turtles Forever!

You Turtle Guys,

It's been a pleasure reading your work since Day One and, though I'm sometimes critical, I've really been digging this new incarnation of the familiar faces. It's always apparent when a creative team has a genuine love and fundamental understanding of the property they're working on; especially so in an industry so often polluted with "paid-by-the arc" creators that treas titles like a revolving door. I honestly don't think there's been a version of the TMNT franchise, be it comics or cartoons, that has had this level of consistency in mythology, characterization and narrative direction.

On a more specific note, after reading #16, I wanted to ask you fellas about your views on Donatello. IDW's Don is such a departure from past incarnations, yet still shares all the same fundamental characteristics. He's openly critical and abrasive in his skepticism as oposed to the gentle, internalizing pontificator of the past. More alarming, though, was his attitude toward killing in #16. I can understand his coldly deduced rationale for executing Slash to end his threat, but it was more his reaction - or lack thereof - to Slash's "death" at the end of the issue that threw me.

Raph's, Mike's and Leo's reactions during that epilogue were all appropriate to their personas, though Don seemed wholely apathetic to their "first kill". I recall in the Peter Laird story "Survivalists" that Don reacted to killing, even a psychotic terrorist out to nuke America, as a crushing act and was visibly shaken by what he'd been forced to do. Seeing IDW's Don view his team's first apparent execution with a spoonful of indifference has me curious as to where you plan to take Don or if you intend to develop this attitude of his in the future.

To be more concise, this is probably the most interesting Donatello has ever been.

Please edit this down as you see fit for space (should you elect to publish it) and thanks again for all your efforts. It's a real pleasure to have such a rich and consistent TMNT mythology that incorporates so much from the franchise's nearly 30 year history. Keep it up!

-Mark Pellegrini

Turtle Team,

What an awesome time to be a TMNT fan! Tom, Ben and the game are really turning out an awesome comic (currently IDW's third best selling book), IDW is reprinting the classics, the Nickelodeon cartoon is blowing away everyone's expectations, and it's getting a tie-in comic helmed by good old Bobby C. And it looks like this generation of Turtles will be sticking around for a while.

Speaking of being a Turtle fan, anyone reading this book and enjoying it in the slightest needs to got pick up all 4 issues of Secret History of The Foot Clan. Truly amazing art and some crazy twists, plus something for any type of TMNT fan. You won't regret it.

I've always used to word "ambitious" to describe the new IDW comic, but then I found out you guys were gonna pull off a 7 issue story arc, with villain Micros to run along with it starting soon! I gotta say, right now I'm most interested in what's going to happen with Mikey. In the Mirage comics, he always walked two paths, but right now it seems like he's having trouble finding balance between being a ninja with a more sensitive side.

I could go on and on about how great the book is... maybe next month.

Big thanks to Tom, Bobby, Ronda, Kevin, Ben, Matteus, & Erik,

Craig Fowler

Hi,

I am reposting this by suggestion from the editor thread.

First of all, thank you thank you thank you for reprinting the TMNT Adventures series! It will be awesome to have the entire run in trade format. Its been attempted a couple times before (Tundra, Archie Digest), but this seems to be the real deal!

The pricing of the TMNT Adventures trades seems to be a regular topic of conversation here and over at the Technodrome forums. $19.99 for 4 issues, which makes it $5 per issue, seems a bit steep compared to some of the other collections from other titles that are out there.

So, I just wanted to write to suggest maybe the trades can be a little larger, particularly as longer arcs come into play.

Here are my suggestions:

Vol 4 is already slated to include issues 13, 14, 15, and 16. Vol 5 could include the next 4 issues, 17-20.

Vol 6 could be two scenarios:

      1) Stretched to 5 issues to include two arcs found in issues 21-22 (shredder) and 23-25 (krang/bellybomb/slash).

      2) OR, if you're including the Mutanimals miniseries (PLEASE?), make Volume 6 the three Mutanimals miniseries issues plus TMNTA 21-22 and save issues 23-25 for the next volume.

Vol 7 could be 6 issues 26-31, which would include two misc issues (26-27) and an arc that more or less runs from 28-31 (Dragon, Ninjara, etc).

Vol 8 could be 5 issues 32-36, which would include an arc that includes world travels and concluding with Shredder.

Here is when the Mutanimals ongoing series could be published to lead up to the next few issues of TMNTA.

Vol 9 could be 5 issues to include 37 (wrestling), 38+39+the corresponding Mutanimals cross-over issue, 40 and 41.

Vol 10 could be 5 issues to include an issue of Mighty Mutanimals that leads into the famous Future Shark Trilogy (42-44) and the turtles origin (45).

    Vol 11 could be 5 issues to include 46, 47, 48, 49, and 50 - all Sarnath issues.

Vol 12 could be 4 issues to include 51 and 52, 53-54 (Animus War).

Vol 13 could be larger at 7 issues to include 55-57 (Terracide Trilogy) and 58-61 (Early Years, Blindsight), all related as one big story.

Vol 14 could be the Cyber Samauri arc of 62-66.

Finally, Vol 15 could be the final 6 issues to include the Moon Eyes Saga (67-70) and the two part "finale", 71-72.

I propose this for a few reasons. First is cost - for sales to be strong, I think sometimes more than 4 issues should be included because, again, $20 for 4 issues is a lot, particularly since the cover quality has gone down since vol 1. Also, with these arcs coming in soon of varying lengths, it would be nice to keep them self-contained, sometimes an issue or two longer, but hold the price steady so sometimes we're getting a good deal while not cutting the stories apart.

Some might suggest the Mutanimals ongoing series be included along the way because it leads in to issues 38 and 39. Some might suggest the Mutanimals issue featuring Armaggon be included prior to the Future Shark Trilogy. I think the way Volumes 1-4 look are OK for now because they are fairly self-contained stories, but it might be worth looking into the fans' suggestions for story order since there is still time to do so. Would IDW be willing to take a second look at the 4 issues per trade model for these reasons?

Thanks for reading this long read! We appreciate you all bringing this title back for reprint!

Howdy!

I've written in before and I was killer ecstatic when I saw my letter printed, so here's another go. This series has been wonderfabulous(yes it's been that good I made a word) and I look back at how small scale it was when it first started, at least from the turtles' perspective. All they knew was they were missing a brother and a mutated cat was out to get them. After reading #18 it has come to their realization that, April's co-worker is a fugitive from another dimension being attacked by an intergalactic warlord, the turtles and their master are reincarnated beings, ninja stars aren't that effective against rock soldiers and Mikey has a thing for redheads. Razz

I can't believe how much has happened since that very first issue! While the series did admittedly start off rather slow, I honestly feel it was appropriate. Allowed the readers to get a good understanding of each of the characters and their situations. Just writing in really to thank you for such an incredible story and reawakening my(and a good portion of the world's) turtle passion!

I want to give you all a high-three!!

Eagerly awaiting the new villain micro, the finish to the SHotFC micro and other surprises you guys have for us,

Neal Taylor
