|
|
On another message board, the artist for GI Joe: Origins seemed to say that there would only be five issues for this series. Can anyone confirm that it is right now only going to be a limited series?
Hasbro announced that Hama will be writing original comic pack comics in the new cartoon "Resolute" universe, so perhaps he will be too busy to continue with Origins.
I won't get into my conspiracy theory again, but this seems to contradict the whole "what's to say Hama's book isn't the main book" defense from last month. |

I was under the impression that Origins and Cobra were both limited series and that origins MAY continue after the initial issues. Isn't that what was originally said? _________________ If I ever say anything interesting then it's Ok to print. |

I'd like a clarification from Mr. Ryall personally on this, if possible.
Given the sheer membership of GI Joe & Cobra, I don't see how Origins can be a mere limited series. Unless the issues will be either double or triple sized one shots (unlikely as it would drive the unit cost), I think having a series of mini series would work best for GI Joe Origins, the number of issues per Joe can either be fixed (ie 4-6 issues) or be dependent on how popular a given Joe is, and how he/she is regarded by Larry.
Cobra can stand as a limoted series as I think it'll only focus on Cobra's new rise to power. And while I'm not fond of Chuckles ( I hear he'll infiltrate Cobra; personally, I'd give the mission to either Lady J or Claymore or even Jinx) , he's a more logical and believable pick as he's really established as a Joe. He wouldn't be retconned in as "Agent Delta" was to justify his mission. _________________ "Let us renew our faith and our hope. We have every right to dream heroic dreams!"

Just say no to a limited series.
We need Larry Hama recreating the Joes. Since he is back creating them from scratch it can't just be he so so character does this and then it is up to Dixon. that is not enough.
We need Hama. _________________ GI Joe comic fan since 1982

| Apparently, I mis-interpreted the artist's comments. He clarified that he was only doing five covers, not that the series ended at five. He doesn't know what happens after five issues. |

| While he is only doing the first 5 covers, it has been stated by IDW (and Phil) after the initial press conference that Origins will start as a limited series, but it will be continued as long as there is a strong response to it. So, if we want Origins to stick around, there is an easy way to make it happen. All we have to do is bitch and moan and whine until we drive the powers-at-be to the point of insanity, and bend to our wishes to get us to shut up. Oh, and buying the comic might help too. |

I doubt it. Even DDP called on Larry to do The Mission That Never Was and GI Joe Declassified and Storm Shadow. And as he's the guy who co-created GI Joe ARAH, its unlikely IDW will just give him a golden handshake when Origins has run its course. For all we know, he'll write some new GI Joe tales when Mr. Dixon needs a break.
As for Origins sustaining itself, it'll be interesting which Joes will Larry focus on for the first two years or so. Of course when Larry tells the tales of the most popular Joes, keeping the readers interested in the 2nd & 3rd level Joes and Cobras will be the challenge. While I'm sure lotsa fans will read Duke's origin, odds are it won't be as many once Larry goes to Muskrat's past. _________________ "Let us renew our faith and our hope. I think Hasbro has given us our answer. I believe these new comics packaged with figures will be produced by IDW. |
