Is it just me, or is anyone else sick of Prime getting his ass handed to him everytime he fights Megatron?

Up front, i'm a huge fan of prime, he is, and always be my favorite character, so, i am obviously keen to see him come out on top. At the same time, i understand there needs to be a credible threat to him, but for gods sake, isn't this getting boring?

I could be wrong, but what i'm seeing here is a repeat of the DW comics, whereby they are removing Prime.

Is he that difficult to write for? Do the writers dislike him that much?

Disappointing.

Nope. I like the fact that Megatron can beat Prime. It's always more interesting from a dramatic standpoint if the villain of the piece is more powerful than the hero.

I can relate to both arguements.

i dont think prime gets beat down all the time... sure he was killed in the movie , blown up in a computer game, attacked by ultramagnus and the wreckers, sacrificed himself inside unicron, sacrificed himself in a quint ambush , eaten by the swarm, badly damaged by shockwave... and his spark core crushed by megatron... its hardley anything to be alarmed at, being the great leader he is he throws himself on the frontlines of all battles so it is obvious he is a target....and hurt often

and with CR chambers as good as they are he will be back to his shiney red best to cop another floggin...

but i must say that all those other events dont really matter, the way megs beat prime shows a few things... even on the gear prime could still go toe to toe with megs and that ore -13 is a powerful substance, i doubt prime is gone for good, which make his comeback that much better... not to mention the potential demons he will have to fight... (kinda like ultramagnus after the thumping galvatron gave him in the UK series...)

I feel the opposite way, I think time and time again Prime has shown his superiority to Megatron.

In the cartoon episodes Prime won over and over again, and anytime Megs won there was always some asterisk beside it-in the early comic Prime was low on fuel when he lost, in the movie that little shite Hot Rod interfered, in the video game fiasco Prime actually won but committed suicide. And now? We got Ore-13. Even with other villians who defeated him, it was always because of special circumstances- Thunderwing in the Marvel run was powered by the Matrix, Shockwave in the DW comic was powered by Cybertron itself, etc.

So when Prime lost, it was never a level playing field. I mean, can you cite even one instance where it actually was a level playing field and Prime lost?

Prime has taken down Devestator by himself, handed Shockwave's ass to him after having his head on a stick for a year, and beaten Megatron many times even when Megs cheated.

I suppose it would be nice to see prime kick megs' backside into the next issue, but to be honest, it'd make for a pointless story:
Megs turns up on earth.
prime follows.
prime defeats megs.
autobots round up deceps and leave.
machination and skywatch left twiddling thumbs.

although on balance prime routinely has been whupped by megs, I'd say, given the buildup, theres nothing about primes actions to suggest he's any kind of wuss. he still hands out a clobbering, and its only megs' ore-13-i-ness that tips the balance.

I also like that prime is much more physical than I've (mostly) seen him before. had shades of 'Vs. Devastator' from early DW and of the movie fight (particularly the double axehandle).

also, this got me thinking about relative strengths....

(the 'with' and 'without' refer to ore-13)

> starscream (with) loses to megs (without)
> prime (without) beats thunderwing (with) but only by attrition
> prime (without) loses? to megs (with) *hence megs more powerfull than worn-out thunderwing*
>all of cybertron (with normal energon, i presume) *just* defeats full-power thunderwing (presumably on energon at this point)
and
> soundwave (with normal energon) loses to bludgeon et all (without).

not enough info to develop any but the roughest rankings chart - except to say that in this, starscream comes out bottom, and megatron on ore-13 really should not have been even remotely defeatable.

Again, check DW vol. 1 Prime wins and is about to kill Megatron

Check DW war within vol.1 Prime wins, though more of an even fight

Check Cartoon: the movie. Prime wins but is killed. So prime wins he just usually has to sacrifice for it

Nobody beats Thunderwing second time around. They keep him at bay a while until he burns himself out.

Nobody defeated Thunderwing first time round either, Cybertron took him into itself.

That's called drama. Only in boxing matches presumably there's no extenuating circumstances. Cartoon Prime seemed to almost never loose while comic Prime seemed to almost never win. I don't mind Prime getting his ass handed to him, but Prime dying has been done as much as Unicron.

I haven't got my hands on the issue yet, but considering the damage done to Skywarp and Blitzwing in Infiltration, I think an extended visit to a CR chamber should render him functional again assuming Megatron doesn't eat his brains next issue.

Andy

But only if the hero at the end can find the strength within himself to take down the villain.

Perhaps we'll see something like that in Roche's Kup Spotlight... Wink

Actually, now I'm even hoping so. Never seen something like that in Transformers!

There's a chance, Nick has said it is a big departure from what we've seen in Transformers before.
