How does EJ usually tackle them? Does he use the original Marvel model sheets as a p.o.r or does he use the action figure? Or neither?

Ditto for Nick Roche too. Can't forget him. Kup Spotlight was amazing. |

All of my designs where from the perspective of cutting up a vehicle to turn it into robots.
In an example, once the alternate mode was decided for any particular character, I would take the vehicle, and cut it up in pieces like this:
Most of the cars are easier to do this from side view of the car.
Sometimes some transformation are troublematic, I would work on more detailed "zoom-in" shot of particular part that may present problems, to show how pieces would turn and rotate in order for the design to make sense.
These 2 examples aren't Transformers, but it's pretty good example of my process.
If no suitable solution could be found, I would go back to the first step, cutting up vehicles.
If everything works out, the last step is to do a rough overall shot of the character and maybe a mid-tranformation shot for my own reference purpose.
My designs, in truth, are only shooting for 90% accuracy. Some pieces are more or less cheated in size to give robots a better proportion. _________________

I've mentioned this before too, I think IDW should publish sketchbooks from their entire TF art team annually, not unlike a number of other publishers do.
EJ: Thank you for posting that stuff!! I looooooooooove sketches! _________________
