|
|
Considering the time of the season, I thought I'd veer away from the subject of the comics for a moment and ask if any of you remember the first 1 or 2 G.I. Joe figures you ever received as a gift (for the holidays or birthday). I have to go back to the mid-80s to answer this one and luckily I remember which two I received...
Roadblock (version 1)
Crimson Guard (version 1)
Good times...
Many more followed in the years to come but you always remember your first! |

| I have a very fond memory of my first GiJoe as a christmas present, Cobra EEL, I will never forget that and have a picture of getting it. Another Christmas memory is the year my brother and I asked for a Crimson Guard and ended up getting the Crimson Guard Commanders Tomax and Xamot instead, my brother threw a fit to end all fits over that one! It was great being a child of the 80's!! |

Very true. The last golden age of great toys (and Saturday morning cartoons).
PS: I think my parents bought the last Crimson Guard that year. Hehe. |

The first Joe's stuff I got was Grunt, Zap, Scarlett, the Vamp w/Clutch, and the rapid fire bike!
Went and bought Snake-Eyes and the bivouac set with the money Grandma sent.
Great Christmas!!! |

My older brother started our collection by getting the first couple waves of figures that we shared, and that I subsequently often broke. I think we had all of the carded figures from '82, '83 and '84, and some of the vehicles from that era. The first G.I. Joe toys that I remember getting for Christmas that were really for me, rather than hand-me-downs, were the 1985 Tactical Battle Platform and the Snow Cat with Frostbite.

First Christmas they were available (82), I recieved all 11 carded figures and every vehicle (and the four figs with them). I had all 13 Joes, the two COBRAs (CC was a mail away, I belive), the MOBAT, VAMP, FLAK, MMS, RAM, HAL and JUMP from day one.
Anyone wonder why I love my Momma so much? Best Christmas ever... _________________ "I... I don't believe it..."

My mom tried to distract me from my star wars toy obsession by introducing me to gi joe... little did she know that my gi joe obsession would become 4 times as nuts.
first two figures were breaker and stalker. _________________ But from that point on... Phil Coletti was forever known as... Machete Phil. |

| The first figure I ever got was Lady Jaye. ('85) A few months later while camping, my brother threw her into the campfire. She melted. |

I had the Baroness. I put her in a toy car once and rolled it into a wall. Her head popped off. |

Ha. I once sold several figures to a classmate who didn't get along with me (and likewise) as a kid, and he melted tiny holes in them and painted bloodspots on them.
That made me really angry then.
That kid died in junior high which is still sad. It was in the winter but not at Christmas.
My first Joe I got was Blowtorch. It was rad.
Honestly I can't recall ever getting any Joes at Christmas at all. There must have been some, I received them pretty frequently as gifts year round, but I ALSO got the Snowcat... it was a hand me down from an older kid across the street and missing most of the parts. |
