Okay, so we can all agree to that it is pretty hard to find Godzilla DVDs in most places. But now I'm starting to notice how high a lot of dvds are going for on Amazon and Ebay; It's ridiculous! I understand some DVDs like Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster, and Destroy All Monsters (don't get me started on that) are out of print and hard to find, but I'm sorry, no DVD is worth 60 bucks on Amazon... not even if it has Godzilla in it.
So my question is how is this even possible? Why arent there more Godzilla DVDs for us to find/buy in the world instead of being ripped off by some jerk online. You'd think the distributors would want to keep us happy? What's the deal?
Do you think new Godzilla DVDs will be coming around the corner? |

Cody, I think we are likely to see a wave of new DVD releases in 2014 when the new Godzilla movie is scheduled to be released. All of the Sony DVDs that are so expensive now were released more than 10 years ago--some of them to take advantage of the 1998 fiasco.
I would suggest waiting to see what comes out over the next year and a half--I suspect that between PACIFIC RIM and GODZILLA that we will see lots of kaiju and kaiju knock-offs being released on DVD. In the meantime, I think Netflix offers some relief... though not as satisfying as having the DVDs on your shelf _________________ "It doesn't make sense... babies can't even vote!" |

I feel your pain, Cody!
I've been keeping an eye out for some of the older movies (which, to me, are where most of the fun is to be had) and it's pretty demoralising how hardit is to find them. Not only that, but when you DO find them, they're selling for such a high asking price it's just not feasible. If I pay $60 for a DVD, being in the UK I'm also going to pay a hefty sum in VAT and handling charges. And given that I'm on a pretty tight income, it's just not going to happen.
I'd LOVE to get hold of Godzilla Vs Gigan, Godzilla Vs The Smog Monster, and all those older G-flicks. I'm hoping the supposition that we'll see them reissued to cash in on Godzilla 2014 proves correct. _________________ Check out my page on DA http://hde2009.deviantart.com/

See, I was one of those poor suckers who said, "Oh I don't need them on DVD... I have them all on VHS... what could possibly go wrong?" Now I'm paying for my stupidity (literally). lol
Hopefully someone gets the rights to bring out Godzilla 1985 to DVD finally! What's the freaking hold up with that one? |

I'm hoping Godzilla vs Biollante doesn't run out of prints, I just need that one and G 1985 to have them all _________________ "You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. | Varan96... seriously order GvsB off of Amazon! It's soo worth it instead of waiting around and looking for it in your local stores. Hurry before it goes out of print. As for Godzilla 1985, I believe there is some legal problems between US companies regarding distribution so hopefully they will settle soon so they can finally give it a good release here. |

I imported a legit Region 3 copy of this. At least, I ASSUME it's legit, and there are absolutely no indicators on either the packaging or in the playback quality that suggest otherwise. So it is out there if you look around for it hard enough.
That said, as ever, do be careful. About five minutes after making my last post in this thread, I thought I'd found a copy of Godzilla Vs Gigan on DVD from Japan, and was sorely tempted to nab it. However, some cursory inspection of the seller revealed it was one of those super-classy bootlegs. And bootlegs, really, profit nobody. _________________ Check out my page on DA http://hde2009.deviantart.com/

I came across a guy selling bootlegs very recently; it was on a website and he was claiming to send us the movie on a DVD, but it was just the film with no menu or bonus features, etc.
I really wanted to report him! You can bootleg any other movie, but when you bootleg Godzilla... you piss me off! hahaha |

See, this is one of my guilty pleasures in life - I've reported LOADS of guys selling dodgy DVDs on Ebay. People complain about Ebay being a haven for pirates and bootleggers, and you really don't have to look very far to find counterfeit goods there. But when you do, it's VERY easy to alert Ebay to what's going on. _________________ Check out my page on DA http://hde2009.deviantart.com/
