Does WotC publishing Forgotten Realms comics in-house mean IDW doesn't get to publish any D&D comics at all? _________________

Not necessarily, but why would they publish one title in-house and other titles elsewhere? I know it's a bad assumption on my part, but I do feel there's a modicum of sense in it. Personally, I would love to see Fell's Five and possibly more Eberron stories published by IDW and let FR go elsewhere, but I'm not feeling it right now. |

Yeah, that's my reading on it too. It's got to be expensive to start up an in-house comic publishing operation, so you probably wouldn't do it for just one title. Maybe that's the ultimate goal for all the Hasbro properties (GI Joe, Transformers, My Little Pony, etc) once the licenses expire. |

I doubt that very much. I can see it for D&D which ties in with a wealth of gaming material background, but the other titles? No way. For starters, you'd have to have a whole crew with specific comic experience - editors, artists, writers, colourists, letterers. For another, if they take the current Transformers titles away from us, there will be rioting in the streets. RIOTING, I TELL YOU!
Plus, WotC has nothing to do with GI Joe, Transformers and MLP. _________________

True, but you'd have to hire those people even just for one comic, so in that sense it becomes more cost-effective if you have them working on more than one comic-- particular the editor, which is typically a salaried, staff position.

Yeah, I can't imagine it would be a popular move, but then Hasbro has often made moves that seem tonedeaf to the fanbase.
All speculation of course, but this whole notion of them doing any kind of comics publishing in-house is very surprising. |
