you know, that was a remarkably good idea!

If anyone is interested, I've set up a petition/vote with my letter/comment to IDW here:
http://forum.idwpublishing.com/viewtopic.php?t=11962

Not to say that it will have any effect at all of course, but we can at least register our interest in bringing it back and if it gets decent numbers, or the sample of people that vote are all strongly in favour - who knows, maybe someone will actually listen.

thanks all!

Hey, peeps who are on Facebook... Chris Ryall started a topic asking what we'd like to see from IDW. Why not chime in and ask for Fell's Five back?

I have just read the first D&D Fell's Five trade and it was fantastic! I collected classic AD&D and DragonLance from DC back in the day and of course played and DM'ed the game. This was one of the best comic iterations of D&D I have ever enjoyed in the funny books.
Sad to hear they seemed to have stopped this intrepid group's adventures but I'll at least read the existing stories. The second hardcover is lying on my dresser now.

I've recently reread all three D&D collections during my two-week illness and still love them! (this was the first time I read them all in one go) It is indeed a shame the series was put on hiatus, although fortunately the third collection rounds off the storyline reasonably well - no cliffhangers, although we are still left with questions about things hinted at.

There is hope though. Last I heard (which was admittedly quite a while ago) the idea was to have Fell's Five sidelined for a while to focus on Ed Greenwood's Forgotten Realms series, but to have it return next year. Fingers crossed that's still the plan (especially seeing as the Forgotten Realms series seems to have bombed big time...).

Well that is heartening news. I heard FR was a poor follow-up so I'll be looking forward to the Fell's Five coming back.

What I'd really like to see is a new DragonLance comic featuring the Heroes of the Lance. Adventures taking place before Dragons of Autumn Twilight.

Also what I think would make a great adaption is Paul Kidd's little know but fantastic trilogy of Greyhawk novels (White Plume Mountains, Descent into the Depths of the Earth, Queen of the Demonweb Pits). It has the right mix of adventure and humour that current fans of Fell's Five would really enjoy.

Seriously, if you can hunt these books down. Read 'em.

I attended the IDW panel at NYCC and asked about Fell's Five. We were told there are plans but they are being kept quiet for the moment. The plan is to swap between Fell's Five and FR. Personally, I prefer to keep Fell's Five and ditch FR. I really do not like that series.

Also, I think they should publish more Eberron stories featuring Abraxis Wren and Torin. They blended action and humor really well, in addition to great art. Perhaps another annual or a short mini-series would be suitable. Smile

I really do not understand why they should keep Forgotten Realms. I don't think I've heard anyone ever say a single good word about it. Is it still selling decently?

And YES re: more Eberron. I really enjoyed the Infestation issues and the Annual.

Fell's Five... I really don't mind when or how frequently... just as long as they bring them BACK! Very Happy

I'm not sure how it's selling but I do agree on not knowing anyone who said anything good about this series. In my opinion, IDW had a great thing going with Fell's Five and they dropped the ball. Not only was the story and art great, but the lettercol was fantastic too. They printed letters, monster stats, and character sheets to make a perfect package of a comic book for all to enjoy. They can redeem themselves by going back to doing it that way again, but I don't see it happening.

I had no idea what it was going to be like and I instantly fell in love with them as soon as I read them. I even acquired the prose novels featuring Wren and Torin but did not read them yet. I may start writing to IDW more frequently requesting more Eberron stories.

I agree. While I would love a monthly title again, if they can only swing a mini-series here or there -- or a series of mini-series -- then I'm totally cool with that too. What I don't understand is why did they stop in the first place? Was it Wizards of the Coast? Was it sales? I can't help but wonder sometimes.

This is what a friend of Ed Greenwood's had to say when I asked about the future of the Forgotten Realms comic:

"CylverSaber, I THINK plans at Wizards have changed. There will be an FR comic book, but written in-house, I think, to (I'm guessing, here) support The Sundering. My opinion is that Ed was able to establish new characters, give them foes, and get them to The Border Kingdoms, where he could start telling new stories with full freedom, some of them involving well-known established Realms NPCs...but then "plans changed," and the book abruptly ended right there.
However, that's just my reading of matters.
Must talk to Ed and see what he can add"

I wish that told us anything about whether we can expect the return of Fell's Five... Because truthfully, I'm not all that interested in a new Forgotten Realms comic one way or the other, anymore.

Yeah, it's not clear whether that just pertains to Wizards plans for the Forgotten Realms, or if it's a broader change related to their plans for the new edition of D&D. I do find the notion of them publishing comics in-house to be interesting though; it's not that easy to assemble professional looking comics with solid talent the way IDW does month in and month out, so I wonder if they know what they're getting into. I might wager that this does affect the future of the Fells Five as well though, since if they're going to the trouble of launching a comics publishing operation of their own, I can't see them doing it for just one comic. Who knows, maybe it's related to the rumors that Disney, which already owns a comic book publisher, is now interested in Hasbro.

There's nothing to those rumours though: they've already been debunked by Hasbro.

Well... they've been disputed by Hasbro's advisers (which is not quite the same) who say they are not aware of any such deal. That probably means nothing is imminent, but you never know...

Sad to find out IDW will no longer be publishing D&D books. I think they had a real gem with Fell's Five and the Eberron stories were equally great. Every time those books came out, it made me very excited to visit my LCBS. Now I'll have to look elsewhere for that same type of excitement. Sad
