| Quote: | Publication Date: November 6, 2012 | Series: The Real Ghostbusters
Forget Egon's rules - the streams have been crossed, the dead have risen, and a free-roaming apparition is part of the gang! It's The Real Ghostbusters, ladies and gentlemen, and in this first volume omnibus collection you can score issues #1-14 of the classic NOW comics series. Be there as Ray, Peter, Egon, and Winston keep doing what they do. After all, they ain't afraid of no ghosts! |
Missing some--or all--of those legendary stories by James Van Hise, John Tobias, and others? You've just hit the jackpot!
Issues 1-14 would feature the following stories:
"The Counter Clock Crime" (RGB #1-2) Time travelling criminals in hippie clothes send the Ghostbusters to an alternate dimension. Learn the secret of The Slug and Captain Nemo's lost ship the Nautilus
RGB#3: Venkman gets to wear a hundred pounds of peanut butter to try and stop a swamp monster.
"Ghost Gangsters" (RGB#4) Julio Ramanajaan opens up Ceasar Caldoni's vault, and finds nothing. Or so it seems, as soon enough ectoplasmic gangsters are shooting up New York City.
(I can just imagine that Julio Ramanajaan now works at a fake news network just like Geraldo)
"The Werewolf" (RGB#5) Ninjas use a werewolf to rob banks. But as you might expect, there's more to the story.
"Video Nasties" (RGB#6) Continues from "The Werewolf" as strange things start happening at WAKO.
"The Secret Empire" (RGB#7) The Ghost Gangsters are back, and they've got a new ally. Fortunately, so do the Ghostbusters--the Crime Patrol!
"Toad Island" (RGB#8 ) The Deep Ones are kidnapping tourists. Their motives are very...amorous. The Ghostbusters investigate, and it becomes very personal when Janine becomes a potential fish bride. (Hell no Egon ain't letting that happen)
(Hey...um...are you guys gonna fix the color problems in this one? Namely a couple panels where Janine wasn't colored in?)
"The Father Thing Trilogy" (RGB#9-11) The high water mark of the entire series, as a decades-long conspiracy hatched by the demon Astorath and the necromancer Nathaniel Blaque is coming to a head--the fate of the world depends on Astorath's daemonseed, Shannon Phillips.
(Nathaniel Blaque is awesome. Van Hise and Now missed an opportunity by not bringing him back)
"A Cat Named Tarantula" (RGB#12) Evil wizards plot to kidnap a chess-playing cat...the familiar of the Prince of Warlocks.
"Blizzard Queen" (RGB#13) A "missing link" threatens to bury Buffalo with even more snow than it usually gets.
"The Lost And The Lonely" (RGB#14) Ray goes to his junior high reunion, but it's a trap set by the Soul Catcher.
I know I'm excited, and I have all these comics already. _________________ "Sometimes I think the universe just waits for me to get cocky"--Dr. Egon Spengler |

| Fritz - thanks for putting together an outline of what the volume will include. Like you, I have all of the individual comics (took years to fill in some of the gaps), but I am really looking forward to having a group of them all in one compilation. It just makes for such an easier time to go back and read. So certainly, IDW can count on selling one to me. |

I certainly hope it sells well enough to at least finish the first series. RGb Omnibus Vol. 2 would then theoretically contain...
"Spike" (RGB#15-16) A dinosaur man leads the Ghostbusters into an adventure in the world at the center of the Earth.
(Special bonus: Performs the official RGB veto of the Janine/Louis fail from GB2, as Egon makes a jealous comment about the matter and Janine dismisses Louis as "Sweet but harmless". Good grief, the movie was still in theaters when this issue came out--nobody other than Ramis liked this idea!)
"Chanted Evening" (RGB#17) I'll just put it simply: Samhain!!!
"Creeping Suburbia" (RGB#18 ) Winston goes on vacation, and suddenly finds himself having to stop an alien invasion!
"Zoned Out" (RGB#19) Short stories about the Ghostbusters on a day off.
(Bonus: I got the name of my web site from this issue)
"Wild In the Streets!" (RGB#20, 22) Nurtog, the villian from "Spike", is back! And this time, he's bringing the battle to the streets of New York!
(RGB#21 was a filler issue full of Marvel UK reprints, many of which have already been reprinted in recent years by Titan Books)
"The Strength To Dream" (RGB#23) Weird stuff is going on in a movie theater...and it somehow centers on an imaginative boy named Sergio.
"Carnival" (RGB#24) The Ghostbusters are relaxing after a bust at a circus when a girl named Denetia literally blows into Ghostbusters Central. She tells them an incredible story about a town lost in time...
"Ghost Train" (RGB#25) The Ghostbusters must take a train ride to another dimension to solve the mystery of missing soldiers.
"Closet Case" (RGB#26) One word: Boogeyman!!!
"Last Voyage of the Lady Anne" (RF+GB#27) Treasure hunters have found the wreck of the Lady Anne, but it might be more trouble than it's worth...
"Hat Trick" (RGB#2 Egon and Janine find themselves over one hundred years into the past--and have to stop a witch.
Between the GB2 adaptation, the stories in Now's second series ("Tobin and the Maze of Time" and the incomplete "Pandora's Box"), and in a pinch the Slimer! stuff (Again, assuming the Marvel UK reprints wouldn't be reprinted), there might even be enough material for an Omnibus Vol. 3 if sales warranted. . I'd be surprised if it made it that far, though. (But it'd be a darn pleasant surprise) _________________ "Sometimes I think the universe just waits for me to get cocky"--Dr. Egon Spengler |

This is fantastic news!
Though, as a Brit, I sincerely hope the Marvel UK exclusive stuff gets an airing; such great memories from my childhood of all those crazy stories, anyway from 2-3 pages to a several-issue epic. _________________ Some ideas to improve the comic: One: Drift needs to be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine. Two: whenever Drift's not in an issue, all the other characters should be asking "Where's Drift"? |

Oh yeah. This is bought.
I have *most* of the Now series in floppies, but I have some gaps here and there (particularly during Vol. 2) that this would help me cover inexpensively.
I wonder, if they get to them, how they'll handle the 3-D stories? Most of those were actually essential to the ongoing plots and can't be skipped. Maybe they'll publish them as strictly line art? I'd kind of like to be able to read them without having to bother with the glasses, actually.
As for the Marvel UK stuff, be it the stuff done as filler for Now or the whole catalog, I'd like to see them. I have the Titan trades, and no, they weren't spectacular, but I want to be able to read them regardless, as there's a lot that have never been reprinted in any form and remain a mystery to me.
Anyway, it's great to see IDW giving the Now series the omnibus treatment; many of those stories were amazing. _________________ TMNT Entity: The place for Ninja Turtle comic reviews and research articles! |

Alright! I picked this up on Wednesday and can't wait to go through it. It's opening weekend of deer season here in Texas, so I will have lots of time sitting in a stand. I will be taking this with me!
EDIT: I read the whole thing over the weekend. Brought back a lot of memories. Looking forward to Omnibus 2 (which was hinted at in the forward!)
Just out of curiosity: Was it a choice in compiling the omnibus to leave the pages in the wrong order for Issue 1? That was something that always bugged me, but I figured y'all did it just to keep the story like it was originally printed (even though its out of order). |

| I bought this a few weeks ago and finally started to read it. Having never pursued the Now RGB series I was looking forward to this. I was trying to collect the run but thats hard to do as well with only maybe 10 issues. I do actually have the RGB GB II trade though. Thanks for the RGB omni book IDW. I have read up to RGB #7 and I have really enjoyed the last 5 issues. I liked how some of the stories had a follow up and and you don't know it until its revealed. One of these recent issues made me wonder if the pages were out of order. I can't remember which issue, but I was wondering. I didn't like the opening two part story. That was brutal, too wordy and the characters and ghosts or whatever from the future was a nasty read. I was worried this would be the rest of the stories in this run but thank god #'s 3-7 have been good. The characters' personalities and humour are spot on. Hopefully the other 7 issues are like this too. More omnis please IDW. |

Some of the pages in #2 were out of order when they were printed. Unfortunately, they're still out of order in the reprint.
At least they fixed the panels in #8 where Now forgot to color in Janine, though. _________________ "Sometimes I think the universe just waits for me to get cocky"--Dr. Egon Spengler |
