|

I just thought that everyone would like to know that Jim Pinkoski and myself are working on developing a JURASSIC PARK one-shot comic to submit to IDW! If it happens, it will be out some time in 2013 (assuming the world doesn't come to an end this December 21st ala the Mayan Calendar Doomsday date)...
Who are we? Here's a pic from a few years ago of Jim with Michael Golden at a comic convention in Knoxville, TN -- Jim and Michael are holding up our 1991 JURASSIC PARK daily strip sample that we did for fun back there a couple years before the first film came out (yes, 1991 was 21 years ago) -- Michael said he really liked our dinosaur samples, and he wished us luck with our future projects!
More to come... _________________ Monsters! Sirens! Aliens! What's not to like?

By-the-way, my name is Bryan Riolo -- here are a couple of my more recent dinosaur art pieces, one in color, the other in black & white -- I have been studying and drawing dinosaurs for many, many years -- Jim and I are gearing up to do some new dinosaur art that we hope will attract and inspire dinosaur lovers of every age!
We just thought that you folks would like to know what we will soon be submitting to IDW.....and we certainly want to hear from members of the forum with their opinions on the material shown so far!

This was a scene drawn for our one-shot Jurassic Park comic, but, it may or may not end up in the issue...;<)...we'll just have to wait and see!

Here's another sample of my dino art that was shown to Michael Golden back there in 2009, and as you can see he gave it "two thumbs up"!...

This is really awesome! I hope it gets made! This would be a very popular comic! _________________ I have always been interested in fantasy, especially the monsters and the possibilities for creative art they inspire. |

Does everyone know who STEVE RUDE is? Of course you do! Steve and I have been friends for many years, and when I shared this JURASSIC PARK dino project with him, here's what STEVE RUDE said:
"I rarely give endorsements, but to help you out, I will...
"If you’re into dinosaurs, Jim Pinkoski and artist Bryan Riolo have a project going, which may be to many peoples interest. The sample art posted on the IDW website looks promising. Good luck to these two for furthering their sincere interests in comics."
Hope that helps, Jim...!

The Mayan Calendar didn't take Leap Year's into account. So the so-called "Doomsday date" has already happened. And since we're all obviously still here...
YAY! for more Jurassic Park! _________________ Everything I say is OK To Print, Even the Bad Stuff.

Our Jurassic Park comic project is progressing nicely and is "in development" -- sorry, Bryan and I can't show any of the pages yet... it will have to stay a mystery for now.... <GRIN>....
Anyone out there remember this really great wall-sized Jurassic Park T-rex poster?

This art looks fantastic, although I hope if this comic gets done the art is a little more true to the films look. I'm not that worried though. This stuff would still look a HELL of a LOT better that JP: Redemption.
And this image...:

This image alone gets me excited, and wanting more. It's so beautifully drawn, and I can tell this has go to be a part of a type of "It's a dinosaur" scene. I can only imagine what it'd look like colored! In one image you guys already have a nice "Jurassic Park feel". I can only hope the rest is just as good (although based off the rest of the art here I'm sure it is.) But please, keep in mind... the art isn't everything. For most people (my self included) story is just as important if not a little more so. I think I could have maaaaaaaaaaaaaybe forgiven JP:R's art if the story had been better. It it all around just tanked, hard. I'm happy you guys are working on this, my only request as a huge JP fan is please stay true to the canon. An please make a coherent story. I've read all of IDW's JP comics (and this can go for most of the Topps JP comics also) and only a small partial handful are actually good and fit into the film continuity well. JP: Dangerous Games (the last IDW comic series) got so disappointing I just stopped writing reviews for it.
You [guys] seem to care though, based off what I have seen here and your posts in other threads (which I finally responded to some of your questions in by the way.) As of right now I'm excited. Like I said- you seem to give a damn, and especially with Jurassic Park 3D coming out in April I'd rather see a new, GOOD comic sooner rather than later. Nobody else with the Jurassic Park lisence is doing anything for this monumental re-release of the first film (that is as of this moment, and I know because I've checked.) Hasbro isn't making/re-releasing any toys, TellTale isn't making a new game, and Universal doesn't appear to be revamping the rides really. So that really only leaves IDW, and I'd love to see some good stories that are well written and illustrated. |

I am doing my best to follow the basic Jurassic Park designs, but all of my dinosaurs are designed and drawn from scratch, and, the movie makers themselves changed some of the designs quite a bit...Tyrannosaurus changed a bit, the brachiosaurs changed a fair amount, and the Raptors are almost a different species, so I don't think I'll be too far off the mark.
I think Jim and I can guarantee this story will have some different twists from anything else done in the comics' versions. Jim has some VERY different takes on dinosaurs from most anyone else, including me, but I think he has some good points to make.
And there are other points to think about: the level of genetic manipulations shown have frightening implications, far beyond what has been seen in the movies so far. The spinosaur in the third movie seemed to be a surprise. Who else has been on those islands? That monster did not get there by accident. And where there was one, there is very likely a breeding population.
We KNOW, from the first movie, there is at least one other company interested in Ingen's work. Why not more? Hmmmmmm???? _________________ Monsters! Sirens! Aliens! What's not to like? |

Another point to make...do you want first rate dinosaurs done my way, as close to canon as I can get and still make them mine? Or do you want third rate tracings, done from photos or other artists' work?
Most of the dinosaurs in the JP comics I've seen are way off canon. Some cool work, but not quite JP dinosaurs, so I think my work should pass muster. _________________ Monsters! Sirens! Aliens! What's not to like? |

Well it is widly accepted by most of the fans that there are at least two species of raptors on the islands (thus why the raptors between jp-jp3 dont all look the same). This comes from the books as well as the commentary by the film creators on JP3. Same goes for most of the other species. The rex are really only different between the males and femals in color and the brachs are the same way. You could argue the Jp3 brachs are a different species because brachiosaur IS found on several continents and not all are the same species of brachiosaur.
And as I said, I am really not that worried about the art. What you have posted is great thus far and it does show that you care and put some hard work into this. As stated I am looking forward to it. |
