I have heard that IDW will be doing a comic book based on the television show My Little Pony FiM.
On this I have a few questions,
1: How soon can be expect a sub-forum to open for it / when is the book scheduled to come out.
2: Can we expect the same quality as the show, or something more focused on the original demographic.
3: Is the comic intended to be its own continuity or tied with that of the show?
4: A quality question, the show seems to rely a great deal on animation for its humor (such as the random acts of Pinkie Pie), what can we expect on translating a very animated, animation, to the still panel media of comic books? |

I would assume it would translate just as well into a comic book as anything else. Self-referential humor can be made just as easily in that format (Marvel's Deadpool character is a perfect example of that). Likewise, I should think that it would be in the same vein as the show and enjoyable by all ages. I can't really picture it taking any sort of "mature" route simply to appeal to adult readers, nor would I want it to.
I am curious, however, to see if there will be any particular focus on the Doctor as IDW also publishes a Doctor Who series and the character is a direct reference to that show. Might make for some fun side stories to see what kind of adventures Equestria's version of the Doctor has had. |

I for one am really looking forward to the comic, and I have faith it will stay true to the show, IDW has done a bang-up job so far with other more cartoony comics such as Popeye (IMO any who) So I am willing to bet this book will be a fun read as well! *knock on wood for good luck* _________________ Timelords, Sailors, & Ponies, OH MY! |

I was more concerned about it dumbing down to be more kiddie. But I don't really see that happening.
A Dr. Who cross-over would be interesting, although the cross-liscensing does concern me as a problem, given the fan-named character is a permanent part of the show and not an actual cameo.
Although with Hasbro involved cross-overs with GI Joe and Transformers...
Well there is the classic reference where the writers of the original My Little Pony pilot had suggested one flying past Ship Wreak from GI Joe and him doing that classic bit of doing a double take, sniffing his flask, and then pouring it out.
and Transformers, well Starscream vs Rainbow Dash for real
a little dimensional flux; easily done with Ground Bridges, Space Bridges, and such and the magical nature of all sorts of things in the Ponyverse. |

Well, they did say they want to stay true to the show and that's definitely not dumbed down. It would not make sense to have the comic dumbed down while the success of the show is based on a witty premise that appeals to an audience of all ages anyway. _________________

I'm very excited as well!
However, I do have a few questions. I'll cut right to the chase.
1. How many pages is one issue approximately going to be?
2. Are the comics sealed in plastic when sold? (I understand that some retailers might remove them from plastic, but does IDW send them to the retailers in plastic?)
3. How about the box set? (this one) Is that sealed in plastic?
4. I saw a subscription variant (right here) with yet another alternate cover. What's the deal with this one? It says subscribers only... Does that mean I can't get it?
5. How many alternate covers will there be now? Is it the 'Mane 6' plus that subscriber variant? Or are there even more?
Thanks in advance! _________________

@Nurio:
1.32 is the page count of most comics
2. Probably not, its a kids/all-ages comic those usually arn't wrapped in plastic
3. The Boxset will most likely be sold with plastic wrap around it, since its a set & what not, I would imagine
4. Yeah theres a lot of covers, I think though the initial promo image from the series announcement might be the cover for issue #2 now, i think. But yeah theres the mane 6 covers and the retail incentive, so guess that means theres 7 covers for issue #1 Subscription only means you can only get it if you subscribe to the book. _________________ Timelords, Sailors, & Ponies, OH MY! |

Thanks for the answers; that's very reassuring.
I am a bit of a newbie at comic books, though (yes, one can be a newbie at something as mainstream as comic...), so I don't really know what it means to "subscribe to the book". Can you maybe explain that to me? _________________

Actually these probably will be wrapped in plastic. Assuming you're referring to the usual comic book setup. I've gotten some kids comics before and they've been in a plastic sleeve.
As for subscription...think of it like a magazine. You can go to your local comic shop and ask them if they're getting the MLP series and if so[or even if not] tell them you'd like to subscribe to it[meaning you'll be buying each release basically]. And welcome to the comic book world my friend. It's a wonderful thing. _________________ The biggest disability in life is a bad attitude. |

I see. So I can just order this Subscription variant online and I'll get this alternate cover as well? I mean, I am indeed planning on buying every issue.
(Yes, I am the collecting sort. I'd actually pay for 7 different covers of the same issue...) _________________

Thanks go to GMR for pointing me here, I couldn't find another thread myself earlier^^
In lieu of a forum yetI went and opened a topic in IDW projects, but I'd like to certainly raise a hand and show some support here as well!
I'm interested in seeing the variant covers and the special editions shown off thus far, it certainly shows IDW are putting some thought and investment into this and makes me all the more eager to see how this goes =D _________________ I'm a pony!
Wouldn'tcha like to be a pony too?
Please come show support for IDW's new My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comic!
Thank you IDW for the new forum! ^^ |

I've been getting caught up on the "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" TV series. For me, it's amazingly well written. It really captures the core of what the "MLP" franchise is about while enticing new audiences in. |

I don't have much experience with online ordering, but I imagine if you order it from that site you'll get the special covers and your LCS[local comic shop] will have a handful of the other alternates. Best thing to do would be going by your LCS and just talking to the manager about it. Good luck!!
Oh and hi jazz lol! 'm super pumped for this too. And yes Harmonios im fairly new to MLP: FiM as well. Quite addicting, yea? lol _________________ The biggest disability in life is a bad attitude. |
