I love how Flint's Covert Ops naievity is a quick and easy way to "info-dump" things for the reader about acronyms, mindsets etc etc.

That's a great point about Flint providing a window for us to understand the complicated world of covert ops.
Similarly, the conversation between Lady Jaye and Chameleon 2 gave us insight into the botched handling of Steeler's turning on the Joes. Lady Jaye had a great point about keeping your distance against a bigger opponent.

I enjoyed this ish but it really made me miss Chuckles. Working out of casino would've been perfect for him.

Good stuff:
1) Chameleon asking the chef to whip her up a meal before firing him.
2) Blacklight and Firefly talking shop before trying to kill each other.

So So stuff:
1) The art. I'm not a Fuso hater but I think I'm ready for a change.
2) Flint being in charge. I think I would've preferred if Firewall was still in charge. Were we given a reason for Flint taking over, or is it just assumed that the 2 moles plus the destruction of one of their bases is the reason?
3) Lady Jaye admitting she screwed up. I'm glad she did but I just wish it wouldn't have happened in the first place. I had no problem with Blackout getting the upper hand over Firewall and LJ, I just wish it was accomplished in a way that didn't make them look like total incompetents.

I love the cobra book yet it sells less than any of the other Joe books. Cobra is the reason I am sticking around the revamp. I do not enjoy Dixon's writing-plotting-or scripting. And if cobra was cancelled I would not be buying anymore of the revamp. Arah is my favorite. It has a fun-feel that the new version fails to capture but Costa's stories keep me around. If he was in charge of the revamp- this would be my favorite comic cluster. But I hats having to mire through two issues of Dixon to get back to characterization. Please-idw-don't cancel cobra or arah. If they go- I go. Big threat- I know;) but Costa and Hama have a knack for the Joe books that Dixon seems unable to grasp. If you must cancel a title- please- make it snake-eyes. He is overrated and appears everywhere. I love ninjas but this guy (and helix) dominate this continuity. Like I always say- use some of the post-2000 toys- Hama doesn't and it might get me interested in revisiting my local toy shop. The new continuity has gotten better but cobra needs a new artist. I don't mind fuso but I think that's what is hurting sales and unless Costa is placed on the title book- Dixon will be running the show and I'll be running to the comfort of arah. Fourteen was great. I do wish that the writers weren't. Forced to write for the trade but -rather- used subplots to keep the audience interested... like Hama with the classic title. I do appreciate the recent use of toy-accurate vipers and vehicles but I want more! You have an opportunity to realize and create an entirely original mythos but that doesn't mean you have to totally ignore its origins. Introduce some old favorites- up the ante- just keep Joe around. The transformers are selling much better now that idw is giving the fans what they want. Hell- have a poll. Maybe I'm too much of a geek but sales shouldn't be this low for a comic that was once the hottest comic of the eighties. I guess that's all I have to say. But I will be sticking around.

Good post cashel.

I don't have a problem with Fuso, but if he gets replaced, I hope they get an artist that draws in a similar (but improved) style, like Dell'edera.

Just one question...why is this book called "Cobra" when the good guys get just as much time?

Anyway, Costa is the only reason I even read a G.I. Joe book. I have been a Transformer-only fan, but I miss Costa's style so much that the tf fans don't appreciate. I really hope one day he comes back and writes a tf story, even a mini-series. For now, Cobra rocks...just wish these badass dialogue could be used on tf characters instead. Sigh.

You sure that's not actually from all those Cortexiphan drug trials done to you when you were a kid? Wink

As per usual, Costa killed it with this issue. This series is just consistently far superior to any of the other Joe titles.

Also, although it was a minor detail, I loved the homage to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas on the opening splash page. Wonder if that Costa’s or Fusa’s idea???

The conversation and subsequent fight between Firefly and Blacklight was great… although I’ll admit that I had a LOT of trouble trying to follow the action due to the artwork. I’ve said it before and will say it again that the Cobra series warrants a more stylized artist due to its gritty, more mature, and pseudo-noirish tone… but will also concede that it is becoming increasingly difficult to visually comprehend what’s happening on the page during any action scenes. I love Fuso’s work during dialogue scenes, but wouldn’t mind seeing another similarly styled artist take a crack at the art in a future issue… particularly one where the action is going to be heavy.

Finally, loved that IDW has their continuity in check and is making sure to include the version of Firefly that was first introduced in Hearts & Minds.

I love the revamped firefly. I liked him in arah until he started talking to himself and losing every task he attempted. I still want arah to follow-up on the faceless master stuff but max brooks really set the new version up well. And I loved his and blackout's conversation. Costa is great but dixon is getting better. I just wish his issues weren't written for the trade. There's still a lot of padding in his issues. But cobra doesn't deserve to be cancelled. To me, it's the root of the new revamp. And because I always feel the need to say it: use more of the toys past and present. Let some of them have their real uniforms. Currently, everyone looks alike. I couldn't tell leatherneck from stalker. Anyway, where's mad monk?Smile

A while ago I said I felt Cobra worked better as a series of miniseries, bu now I stand corrected, there's something about the multiple story lines weaving together that just suits Cobra's more sinister and covert nature. I especially like the fact that for the readers like me who don't read GI Joe it still makes sense and holds together as a cohesive story line.

I am stoked on how awesome this issue was. I love all the women that contribute to the team. Lady jaye is simply cool and chameleon is a very interesting character. Scarlett bugs me for some reason but I haven't figured out why. And fire wall- who is my favorite. The revamp needs more character scenes like the jaye/chameleon conversation over lunch. I like how different joes have their cliques. I would still be interested in a shipwreck and cover girl romance- it's already been stated by torpedo that she likes him. But I still love the action. But larry Hama and Brandon jerwa. Really knew how to make you feel for the characters. A book like cobra has both. This title is the one that I look forward to the most. Sales should be better- I don't get it. Maybe you could talk Cal into drawing it. While fuso is great- it seems like a lot of readers are scared of his style. I love cal's work and it's realism would fit well with cobra's style. Anywho- I'm enjoying the relaunch more and more. And I like how big cross-overs get the easy reading by having a number in the upper right corner of the book. Thanks for your time now- where's mad monk?
