whichever, i can't tell them apart right now |
You know, you could always read the text in the comic. Since it was said multiple times in the issue that the name of the dead bot was Barrel Roll, that would probably have helped |

So after picking up issues 1 of MTME and RiD, I just haven't had time over the past few months to keep up w/ reading -- I've been picking my issues up, but they've gone neglected. Last night, I read issues 2-4 of RiD. WOW! This is some of the best transformers stuff I've read in years. Love how each issue has gotten inside the head of one of the principal characters. Each issue feels somewhat self-contained (i.e., something happens, story advances, isn't just filler), yet is clearly part of/building towards something bigger. This is great comic writing. Great character development. I knew from the movie comics that Barber had an incredible knack for weaving things together from preexisting continuity, but the way he deals with Prowl, and some of the inconsistent characterizations, pulls it all together in a way that makes sense and is believable (and blaming it on Spike too -- not only makes sense in-story, but a bit of a nod to the fans), is brilliant. I now get the head-count signature blocks folks have had on their posts here. And I don't think its at all over the top -- this is getting back to what we were promised back in Infiltration -- these characters are free of their toy promotion origins (despite the fact that they are now selling the Generations Cybertronian designs -- looking at you Shockwave...), and deaths can be real. We haven't seen that since Runabout and Runamuck. Sure, this is comics, and anything can happen (most notably Ironhide of late), but having real characters from the 1984-85 run bite the bullet makes it much more real. Keep it up! Loving the art too. I really am looking forward to next week when issue 5 comes out, to see where this goes next. There are so many possibilities -- from Autobot civil war with Prowl, to Decepticon resurgence, to other factions emerging. _________________ September 17, 1984. MTME Part I. For me the first two issues of RiD were great, it dipped a bit for 3 despite a lot of people liking it and came back up for 4. 4 was my favourite. Im excited whats ahead in this story and hope issue 5 is out this week.
