I am looking forward to this... this series from 13-15 feels like an old school GIJoe tale. I am liking the art as well.

I voted for cover A. It looked like a pretty good and simple characterization of Duke.

Scarlett looks so butch. I may enjoy the story more than the art.
Then again, I may just read the reviews before I waste another 4 bucks on Dixon's work.

I'm waiting... Detailed reviews please... I'll flip through it but most likely won't pick it up. I took it off my subscription last month.

I'm a sucker for action covers, but I'm making an exception here. Went with B.

I will admit I'm actually contemplating whether or not to pick this issue up. I feel the exact same as I did at the beginning of volume 1. Dixon's vision of the Joe team just doesn't really appeal to me. He did a terrific job with the early Snake Eyes book and the first few issues of volume 2 of the main title were pretty good too, but recently with the last issue of both titles I'm cooling off quick. As Storm Shadow is my favorite character in the mythos I thought I would be excited for this upcoming series, but I'm actually more worried that he is going to ruin yet another great character.

Wow some times I feel like you are my clone...or maybe I'm yours... Storm Shadow is my favorite as well and I am hesitant about what Dixon will do...

I flipped through this issue today and I got to say... The most impressive thing about it is the cover with the gold Joe line. Covers A and B are clean and nice looking in person... Digital representation, doesn't do them justice... The art on the inside was kind of awkward at times and the story didn't seem that compelling. Haven't read it yet... Probably won't unless a friend buys it and let's me borrow it, or if the story is good enough I'll get it in trade.

Personally, I'm all for a totally evil Storm Shadow. I never much cared for "good" Storm Shadow. He's a Cobra ninja and should remain so.

Totally enjoyed the evil bastard version in Retaliation.

Stupid sucker that I am wasted 4 bucks.

Scarletts leads a team on a mission without Dukes knowledge.
Mainframe secretly follows her team without anyone's knowledge.
He discovers their awestrikers blown up, a firefight shells from a battle and the captured joes are now prisoners and working the mines. And all that action happened off page!

Another issue with no battle no action.

I swear this is my last Dixon issue

i thought this issue was pretty good... definitely a huge improvement over the last, if nothing else.

so far, i'm really digging this subterranean, secret cobra mining storyline... although, i can't help but be concerned that this is going to ultimately turn into another one of dixon's over the top sci-fi arcs in the next few issues (looks like mindbender is searching for some fictional element, which i can only imagine will be used for sci-fi purposes).

but until this inevitably goes the sci-fi route, i am liking it. decent amount of action... new villain... return of mindbender, who i actually kind of like in the reboot universe... the new joe accountant seems fairly interesting and funny... a little bit of mainframe unrequited love for scarlett... stalker, rock and roll, and a few others get to see some page time... and i always like to see a trouble bubble blow someone away Smile

and now for the inevitable bad... the reboot universe joe team still seems to just be a bunch of outlaws with no respectable command structure. colonel duke has been in charge for all of two minutes before multiple joes take off without permission on a secret, unapproved mission... rosado's artwork was a bit choppier than usual in this issue; scarlett often looked either pregnant or like she had chugged a few too many yo joe colas; something is off with the viper helmets, too... and of course, as i said before, i have a bad feeling that cobra's mining mission is going to turn into something straight out of the cartoon before the next few issues are over.

final grades:
story = B
art = B

Voted for cover B. Though I prefer action covers, I have to admit that Roadblock looks pretty cool here.

So, I've made a decision, starting this month:

I usually avoid previews because I like to have the entire issue be a new read for me when it comes out. But my enthusiasm for the reboot titles is in decline, and so from now on I'm going to read the previews and if nothing grabs me, I'm not going to buy it.

Read this preview - nothing in the script grabbed me and the art isn't looking so good - especially Scarlett - woof. So I'm going to pass on this.

It's not entirely the reboot's fault that I'm going to start being selective with it. I have decided to collect Popeye, Simon Furman's Transformers, and Superman. (When I bought Popeye #1, I had to get a Superman comic because when I was very young I was a huge fan of both at the same time - I just couldn't get back into Popeye without having the man of steel along for the ride - lol) These three titles, along with Hama's G.I. Joe and I've got 4 titles I'm buying - the same amount as when I was only buying Joe. And I've only got so much $ for comics, so suddenly my support of the reboot is in question. However, I think the variety of getting new stories on four different franchises is going to do me good.

Again, this doesn't mean I'm completely dropping the main title, SE, and Cobra. But from now on my purchase will have to be earned by an enticing preview. And any issue with Atkins interiors will be a sure buy for me.

So I'll likely start having holes in my reboot collections from here on out, but between reading the previews and all of your comments, I think I'll be able to keep up with the story well enough, so I won't be lost when an issue worth buying comes along.

Okay, I've been a Dixon supporter for a long time (even if I didn't always agree with some of his storytelling choices) but I am now convinced the man either can't script a vehicle battle scene or he just believes such scenes are irrevelant to the story. I mean I'm all for a strong plot but this is a military action comic that's been particularly light on the action. I hate to say it but I might like to see someone else take over the main title (not Hama).

My only real favorite part was the bike drop... and seeing multiple Viper helmets in same issue.

It reads like an issue written for the sole purpose to get us somewhere. The set up so to speak. Nothing too exciting, just one of those necessary evils.
