Hm will need to reread, but I'm starting to see a pattern here that every issue we are going to be left thinking that Prowl's cargo is going to turn out to be something that will prove fatal to the mission, only for it to be disproved at the start of the next issue and in the end it will turn out Prowl really just wanted the cargo loaded and them gone before anybody else joined up. I think the writers are going to try and turn us as paranoid as Red Alert.
Seriously, good issue. I liked Skids appearance, it reminded me of UK Marvel after he escaped Limbo. Swerve is funny, but eventually we are going to get as sick of him as the characters around him... which is what should happen.
Tailgate's alt-mode will probably turn out to be nothing special. In fact it will probably turn out as a joke on Swerve after all the time he spent badgering him.

Oh! Oh! Theory time!

Sooo... how about Prowl sent Shock and Ore on board with the Sparkeater, not with the intend of killing people but to take out the engine? Like... they had to drill a hole in the engine (you can see Shock... um, I mean Ore, has his drill out when he's mashed into the engine), tip the Sparkeater in and it would eat the engine's juice or something? Only the Lost Light left a little too soon (maybe Bee's message to Roddy was a delaying tactic that he didn't think would get ignored? Rodimus did seem a little rushed to be off...), taking them by surprise - and the Sparkeater escaped and turned on Ore... I mean, Shock?

...okay, that feels a little contrived. But it's a start...

Also does anyone feel Tailgate's "Six million years?!" line should have continued with "I've still got that library book!"? Razz
James Roberts will get this.

Another theory: The message from issue #1? All nonsense, it's just Swerve taking the p*ss...

"...and whatever you do, don't.... chhhkkk.. chkkk... hsss... you copy....hsss... rmmmmm... HAAAA HAAA HAA! Only kidding, we found the Knights, they're dudes, we're 10 minutes from home, put the kettle on!"

Can anyone recognise four bots from MTMTE #2 from page 19.

1) "Bluebot" with white guns on his shoulders. He's near the monitor. Who could it be? Smokescreen? Tracks?
2) "Yellowbot" - who's talking to Inferno. Who could it be? Gunrunner?
3) There are two bots in background between Rodimus and Ultra Magnus. Who are they?

I think Swerve was over-used in this issue. Any one of his scenes could have been adequate to fill his wackiness quotient for the issue. Three or four of those scenes, however, read like Roberts was trying way too hard to make readers think Swerve is the new wacky, funny guy! I'm probably in the minority, since it sounds like most readers here are crazy about Swerve, but I found him to be just as annoying as the rest of the Autobots did.

Besides that, I wasn't wild about Skids' introduction. Again, like Swerve, this felt too forced, like I'm supposed to be really intrigued and impressed by this guy I've never seen before. I'm not. This series has a cast of two-hundred Transformers; why are we bringing in a character with memory issues and 'kewl' fighting abilities in the second issue? We spent last month getting acquainted with the eccentricities of a rather large cast and I'd like to see some of that develop before we get even more.

Speaking of characters getting short-changed, for the captain of this journey and supposed star of the series, I feel like Roberts has avoided Rodimus. In two issues, he's had pretty lackluster page time and characterization, and he's the third dullest 'bot on the ship after Drift and Ultra Magnus.

As for the art, I loved Alex Milne's work on "Chaos Theory". I grew to like Roche's art on The Death of Optimus Prime and the first issue of MTMTE, but I was really looking forward to the change. Seeing Milne adopt a more Roche-like style, well, not my favorite decision. Still, the style grew on me as the issue progressed, so I don't hold that against it.

All told, this was a very disappointing sophomore issue after the greatness of last month. The characters are virtually in the same spot as they were at the end of last issue. The only progression we've had to the story is the very last panel with Red Alert revealing there's a monster on the ship. I'll give the third issue a chance to improve, but if it's not significantly better, I'll drop this title.

Im surprised by this. each to their own of course but we have had more characterisation, intrigue and good old fashioned humour in just two issues that we had for most of Costas run. Compare these issues with the first two For All Mankind isues. No comparison. But each to their own.

If James is focusing on Swerve then its for a real reason. Hes important to the plot. James doesnt do anything without a great reason. He may be the first casualty of the sparkeater. I have seen it happen so many times over the years across different media. Theres a cast of characters, the focus in the early part is on one of them, they are made to be funny or interesting and we are made to have an opinion on them and they something happens to them and we miss them.

Skids being pursued by those creatures reminds me of the nightmare creatures who pursued him in marvel UK after he was released from limbo after Galvatron was sent back to his own time so another nod to previous continuities from James. At least thats how I read it.

I think Swerve is a very fun character and he already seems to be a fan-favourite. So it's obvious time spent on him's not wasted. What's more, while he pretty much acts the same in every scene he's in, it always tends to drive the plot forward and tell us something about the other characters. I think he's a very valuable addition to this colourful mosaic of characters that make up the crew of the Lost Light.

I'm asking because I'm genuinely curious: did you read any of Costa's run? Without exaggeration I can say that in this issue more characters got more time in the spotlight than you'd see in an entire arc of the old ongoing.

Yep, every issue, and at the time I tried to convince myself it was better than it was, but it wasn't. Costa's run was bad; so was most of All Hail Megatron, and those are the series I was predisposed to liking because of the setting and the choice of characters used.

I thought the first issue of More Than Meets the Eye was fantastic and I was excited for the series. But this issue, despite having a lot more word balloons, still felt like it didn't advance the story at all--which is very Costa-like.

Totally agree and this is just the beginning of the adventure. Thats the amazing thing about this story. We havent even scratched the surface of what these characters can and will do.

They have to a point with Cyclonus and Whirl. Its only the second issue in. We still have to know who everyone is who is on board The Lost Light. It reminds me a bit of those 70s disaster movies like the Airport series of films and the Posidon Adventure and Towering Inferno. You met the caast first, found out a bit about them so when they were in peril you rooted for them. You felt for them when they lost a loved one etc.

This is what this story is reminding me off. There could well be heading for a big disaster. I think James is pacing this just right.

There isn't a single bot in MTMTE, that even ranks high on my list of favorites. The most important to me on the crew is Ratchet...

All of my Favorite Transformers are, (so far), in RID.

So for me to enjoy this comic as much as I have says a lot. And Roberts has a way of taking bots that don't mean anything to me and making them relevant. It also lets me sit back and enjoy the ride more easily. As Barber and crew had better get it it right..and so far they are doing great. heh heh.

Twisted Evil Hey Barber...Im watching you!!! Wink Twisted Evil

There are only a few Bots that are up there on my list of favourites in MTMTE too....Ultra Magnus, Cyclonus,Red Alert and Chromedome. The rest I would normally take it or leave it. But James has made all the characters interesting to me, he makes me interested in whats going to happen to them.

I think this adventure is more then just finding the Knights Of Cybertron. For some of these bots it will be a journey of self discovery, others will learn things about themselves they didnt know already and some are looking to atone for past mistakes. Its more about the journey then the destination as Ratchet I think said. I dont think they are all going to survive. We have already lost a few. I think only a core few will be left at the end.

There will be casualties. Its going to be an emotional roller-coaster of a journey. Buckle in, its going to be bumpy Wink

It's a pretty big landslide of opinion in here, Torpedo's the only one voicing any critical thoughts, let's see...

I say issue 2 of this is fine as a breather, issue 1 spent a lot of time building, it involved half the cast of RiD, I'd even have went as far as to say it was the sequel to Death of Optimus Prime, issue 2 is the real split now, THIS is the characters beyond Cybertron and heading onward

RiD 1 goes right after MtMtE 1 believing their dead and carries on, this is where the two will now diverge, so a lot of this issue really covers consequences and relationships

We met a ton of bots who we didn't know, and now we see them pairing up, getting to know one another, so I'd say its spending time doing what criticisms were given to the first issue, so many were introduced, but now we're getting to know them more and getting little teams budding together

On humor, I think it helps a lot, Roberts style of writing is old school in its level of wordcount and amount of space it can take up in a single page, anyone ever had to sit through the M Night Shyamalan travesty of the Last Airbender?

THAT is what exposition looks like when no one stops to try and make it better

The humor here helps digest things easier, as well as adds a little charm to each characters relationship, even if its not entirely intentional humor

Just look at Cyclonus and Whirl, Cyclonus draws Whirl in and gives him the death threat, but, while we may say its a good tough guy scene of him walking away afterward, its the way its done that really makes it stand out and memorable in my mind

But compare issue 2 to 1 and I'll say 2 had toned its humor down a touch, not because the jokes aren't hitting home, but because it wasn't as necessary here, and things are now beginning to proceed

Maybe Torpedo is right on humor later on, I'm happy with it as is just now, but we do repeat that time is the test

But me in ten years? Who knows, all I know is right now, I do love what I'm reading and can only hope for more

It's my birthday next month, and I'm considering whether or not to wait to read the third issue then, or if I just read the third issue as soon as I get it and call it an early present to myself! x3

I hate Whirl(not the way he's written, thats great) but I'm sure I will find myself repeating something he says in real life, probably his apology.

I like Swerve but I started to feel like he was a little "much" this issue.

I loved cyclonus interaction with whirl.

I'm actually starting to like Ultra Magnus

I don't like the overly positive drift.

Not yet interested in skids.

I was confuse about something and maybe you guys could clarify for me.
I went through issue fairly quickly so...

I was under the impression that Rodimus had already aggreed to take cyclonus or was that not expressly stated and I'm assuming thats what it was?

I was also under the impression that they took Cyclonus with them after his battle with whirl?

Help me out, I don't have he issues in hand at the moment.
