I was going ... Tiptons? Tony Lee? JK Woodward?
Wow.
Then ... ohh. Of all the bad fan-fic escapee ideas to use as the basis of an eight issue series.... Frankly "Daleks invade another universe in order to mine it for power" makes more sense.

It's an eight issue series? I'm having a hard enough time trying to think it can last four now.

Guys. You've seen a press release and two covers. At least wait to see a page before you declare it dead on arrival.

You might even like it.

As I've said elsewhere, I fully intend to buy the issues day-and-date. All eight of them, but the way it's being pitched is putting me and a lot of other readers off. But really, the quality of the people lined up versus the inherently overly familiar idea means it's going to have to work really hard to be bad.

Can I ask one thing. Don't make this a "Star Trek book, guest-starring The Doctor".

That's a mistake a lot of crossovers seem to make. Especially all the Transformers ones. They were more like "G.I Joe, guest-starring a couple of TFs".

Replace the word G.I Joe with Avengers for that other crossover.

Which is exactly my worry - beyond the idea of the Borg joining forces with the Cybermen - you have two forces, the immovable object of Trek's seriousness and scientific focus versus the irresistible force of Who's surrealism and fantasy focus. Throw the Enterprise crew into the Doctor's universe and they'll be portrayed as stolid and a little boring, throw the Doctor into the Trekiverse and he's a dangerous radical who, more often then not, endangers others rather helps them.

The Doctor is the focus of his stories, even when he's not actually *in* the story. It'd be like having Harry Potter randomly wandering around Middle Earth but while Frodo has his adventure. The universes should fit, but you can't fit them without one coming off being lessened to accommodate the other - Harry would be the one to carry the One Ring if Harry's in the story. And if he's not then what's the point of having Harry Potter in the story?

In a Who/Trek context, the Doctor solves the problem with a ball of string and a guess, while in Trek the solution is reached after careful scientific enquiry and thought and consideration. The Doctor's a radical in the Trekiverse because he doesn't work within a team context, he wears a bow-tie and makes things up as he goes along. The Enterprise crew is stolid and boring in a Who context because they wear uniforms, they explore because it's their job, they have a load of rules that get in the way of doing the right thing and above all else follow the rules because not following the rules is always wrong.

Damn. Time for a rewrite.

Seriously, though, the real joy in this thing is going to be in bringing these two worlds together, with all their differences, and in watching the way the characters interact. The fact that they are so different is going to be where the fun is. And no one will be taking a back seat.

And, the Tiptons know Trek, and Tony Lee knows Who - so all the characters will "sound" right.

I'm not declaring it dead on arrival. I'm declaring it, as Daniel has said, as being presented to us with the worst cliche idea since Moffat decided to tell us that River Song is Amy and Rory's daughter. And since I'm in no way shape or for onboard with the idea of that...

That having been said, though, also like Daniel said, I very much intend to buy it and see what happens. I'd be lying, though, if I said my interest wasn't somewhat based on the "horrible car crash you just can't turn away from" idea.

Then again, the writers of the Star Trek: TOS/Leigon of Superheros X-Over have thus far managed to avoid make that suck, so who knows where it will go?

And Doctor Who News.

ETA: A preview of things to come, perhaps?

It is. Eight issues. May to December.

Then again, now that you mention it, May's shipping list doesn't mention any new issue of the ongoing...
