|
|
With recent talk of marvel UK and the current brilliance of IDWs current output I was wondering what are peoples favourite TF cliffhangers of all time comicwise?
In no particular order
Prey Part 2 Marvel UK, the autobots find a destroyed Optimus after a fight with the predacons. Surely he wasnt dead? Well there was more to it then meets the eye.
LSOTW part 4 IDW. We were entering the business end of events in IDWs landmark series. Just how would it end for the Wreckers? The answer.... Not very well.
Legacy of Unicron Part 1 Marvel UK. The title of this epic was left to the final speech bubble in this series as Unicron returns.
Target 2006.Marvel UK Part 5 (I think) A captive Jazz is told by Galvatron that he was Megatron. Shocking
Wanted Galvatron Dead or Alive. Marvel UK The subtitle Fire On High part 1 saw Galvatron fight UM on top of a volcano ending with Galvatron throwing Magnus seemingly into a volcano. Did he survive?
Another two parter from Marvel UK saw Deaths Head hunt Rodimus. With Rodimus beaten Deaths Head places his blaster to the back of Primes head then an explosion. You could not wait to see if this was the end of Rodimus Prime. A week was a long time to wait.
Chaos Final Part IDW. Optimus Prime hurls himself and the matrix into the heart of Cybertron only to end up where exactly? The matrix in two pieces on the ground in front of him in a desolate place.
MTMTE part 1 IDW. A voice from the future tries to warn the crew of the Lost Light. But whose voice is it? And whats in the basement? The wait goes on..........
They are just some of my favourite cliffhangers. Feel free to add your own or disagree with any or all of my choices. _________________

I forget which chapter, but "Target:2006"s
"Until at last a winner emerges from the conflagration... AND IT IS GALVATRON!"
has stayed with me for over 20 years. Given the events preceeding that, the sense of doom and anticipation was immense.
"Crisis Of Command"s "Oh Bumblebee... What have they done to you?" was pretty good too. Exploding Sunstreaker from "Escalation" and Optimus' return from the Void in "Time Wars" also spring to mind. _________________

The lines from Time Wars went something like ......Optimus Prime enters the fray. Galvatron says At Last as he attacks and Prime thinks May Primus have mercy for what I have done. We simply did not know if having Optimus and Rodimus in the same place would accelerate the rift in space/time. It was exciting as we also knew Galvatron would finally fight Optimus. _________________

Devastation #1 - The Ark-19 falling full speed towards a densely populated area
Target 2006 - You're just like him! You're just like Megatron! /// No Jazz, I AM Megatron /// He cannot believe what he has just heard
In fact, thinking back, there's loads of cliffhangers in Devastation. The Autobots raising out of the lake to save Ratchet from Sixshot. Verity and Jimmy orbital bouncing unprotected. Prime deserting Earth to go to G9. The reveal of Jhiaxus etc etc _________________ "Running away with a Spaceman in a box, anything could happen to you" |

I've said it before, but this:
"Lemme put you straight on a few things Mega-Grot! One: Robot-Master ain't here. Two: The female stays with us... ... and three: This is a Dinobot you're talking to - we don't walk away from any fight!"
Grimlock replying to Megatron, end of UK issue 76; In The National Interest (part 3). Just remember being so psyched about seeing the coming battle between the Dinobots and Centurion and Megatron and the Deceps. _________________ Ignorance can be fixed, stupid is forever... |

Still, it's let down by the resolution at the start of #5. Come on, Protectobots? Could see that one coming a mile away _________________ "Running away with a Spaceman in a box, anything could happen to you" |

The end of Megatron's Master Plan part one's always been a favourite of mine, as was the end of Part One of the Return of Optimus Prime. _________________

The end of Devastation # 1 was pretty effective.
Last Stand of the Wreckers # 3 as well. We went absolutely nuts trying to figure out what or who "Aequitas" was, only for NO ONE to guess right.
I'll think of more eventually... _________________ Everything is okay to print.
