Covers and Solicitation for Angel & Faith # 10
http://www.newsarama.com/php/multimedia/album.php?aid=45505
| Quote: | Exclusive Dark Horse Cover Reveal: ANGEL & FAITH #10
01 February 2012
Dark Horse's Angel & Faith series from writer Christos Gage and artist Rebekah Isaacs has been a well-received spinoff of their Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise, and courtesy of the publisher, we have the exclusive first look at both covers for May's Angel & Faith #10.
Here's some early info on the issue, which features guest artist Chris Samnee of Thor: The Mighty Avenger fame: "Angel and Faith are forced into battle, less by choice and more by circumstance, when two mysterious women from Giles’s past call on the unlikely duo for help. But that’s only the beginning of Angel and Faith’s troubles as the ladies settle in for the night!
Series writer Christos Gage (Avengers Academy) and guest artist Chris Samnee (Thor), the creative team of Vertigo’s Area 10, reveal more about Giles’s past and further Angel’s quest in bringing the Watcher back from the dead."
First up, here's the Steve Morris cover for the issue.
And here's the variant cover by series artist Rebekah Isaacs.

I am beyond thrilled to work with @ChrisSamnee again on ANGEL & FAITH #10! Putting the band back together! (You've read AREA 10, right?)

And the "two mysterious ladies" in ANGEL & FAITH #10 are characters Joss originally planned to use in the RIPPER TV show!

@SlayAliveForum It's a one shot, called "Women Of A Certain Age". But the new characters will be sticking around.

1)This is our second one-off of Angel & Faith
2)The title is,"Women Of A Certain Age."
3)The two new female characters were created by Joss for the aborrted Ripper BBC series. They'll be used here instead.
4)These two new characters will be staying around in the book.
These two women are most likely the two women from the portrait at the end of in issue 1. |

| The mysterious ladies bear a passing resemblance to Faith and Buffy, which is kind of confusing. Also, it may sound churlish, but rather than see ideas for the Ripper series used in Angel and Faith, I'd sort of prefer for Dark Horse to do a Ripper mini-series or two and really showcase Giles. You can never have too much Giles, imho. |

Horrors across the London landscape have led Angel and Faith to a certain hot new vampire in the underground scene . . . Drusilla. She is back in her homeland and feeling better than ever!
While Angel indecisively deals with Dru, Faith must sort out an unexpected guest of her own who promises to rile up her inner turmoil with stories from the past.

How indeed.
So we finally see more in full what Angelus did to torture Dru before he turned her. |

I've always enjoyed the Angel/Dru dynamic. Angelus' most wicked deed personified. What I've always found interesting, however, is Angel's behaviour towards her. He is her sire. He is far older than her, more powerful and more able in the fighting stakes. Yet, despite numerous encounters with her, he won't kill her.
In Buffy Season 2, Angel comes across a very weak, sickly Dru in a park and stops her killing a child. There is no Spike around to deal with, and yet Angel does nothing. He doesn't fight her, nor make any attempt to kill her. He merely tells her to take Spike and leave. Really, though, it is an empty threat, because I'm sure he's made it numerous times since then, though my memory is not perfect. Been a while since I've watched any Buffy/Angel.
I've always liked this reticence on his part, and what it says about him as a person seeking redemption. What is it about her that stops him killing her? Why does he allow her to go on killing when so many others haven't been shown such mercy? Does Angel feel he cannot be her killer when he was her creator? Does he wish to keep her around in the belief that he can never be truly redeemed until he helps her?
I hope her appearance sheds some more light on their relationship, one that is extremly twisted, yet also, at times, sweet in its innocence. Drusilla has a strong connection to only two characters in this universe: Angel and Spike. She is going to affect Spike over on Buffy, surely, and their relationship shall be explored further. I hope the Angel/Dru relationship gets the same treatment. _________________ I'm so glad I'm an Asshole! |

My favorite thing about the ANGEL & FAITH preview is that I now know how much it mortifies @rebekahisaacs to draw sex scenes.

BTW fair comments that the A&F flashback doesn't provide new info. I feel it tells us Angel's thought process behind choosing Dru...

ChristosgageChristos Gage
...she is someone who is the opposite of what Angel/Liam was and Angelus wants to destroy that. But that may have already been clear to most

@Christosgage So, is Drusilla having been at the Mosaic "true" in A&F?

@farwell3d I am trying to invalidate everything @BrianLynch ever did, so no. Kidding, it's neither ref'd nor contradicted so as you please.

For ANGEL & FAITH with stuff that's not Joss-approved canon I try to stay ambiguous. i.e. Faith's Dad's name. I used "Pat"...
3 Feb
ChristosgageChristos Gage
...whereas the Faith novel had his name as, I think, George Patrick Lehane. So it could be he goes by his middle name, or ignore the novel.

Thanks Buffyversefantic. I never expected any obvious references, but I'm glad Gage is not going to contradict Brian Lynch's storyline. (I didn't think he would, based on what we've heard from him so far, but you never know.)

Writing a massive battle between Angel, Faith and undisclosed allies vs. a hugely powerful foe. It's quite fun.

I am writing badass dialogue for Faith today to tap into that @elizadushku mojo, then sending it to the PATS who are going to WIN 37-30.

| Agreed - and if Dru is going to make some appearances in the Buffy comic then surely they will have to reference the events of the Spike series there. |

| Well, hopefully they, at the very least, vaguely mention what transpired in the Spike series. It's possible Gage could elaborate on Dru momentarily having a soul which gave her, for the first time in ages, clarity. Rather than being tormented with the presence of a soul, she decided to instead remove the traumas that clouded her mind for so long. |

They don't care about the Spike Series, or Mosaic, or anything IDW did. They're just not going to contradict it. _________________ I'm so glad I'm an Asshole! |
