|
|
Diamond's Previews web site just updated with September offerings for all books and IDW's gem of the month will be...
STAR TREK ONGOING #1
Mike Johnson (w) Stephen Molnar (a) Tim Bradstreet, David Messina (c)
The adventures of the Starship Enterprise continue in this new ongoing series that picks up where the blockbuster 2009 film left off! Featuring the new cast of the film, these missions re-imagine the stories from the original series in the alternate timeline created by the film, along with new threats and characters never seen before! With creative
collaboration from STAR TREK writer/producer Roberto Orci, this new series begins the countdown to the much-anticipated movie sequel premiering in 2012. Join Kirk, Spock and the crew as they boldly go into a new future! Up first, a drastic new envisioning of "Where No Man Has Gone Before."

Wow, didn't see this coming. And in the nuUniverse to boot! Very interesting, can't wait to see it. _________________ Some ideas to improve the comic: One: Drift needs to be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine. Two: whenever Drift's not in an issue, all the other characters should be asking "Where's Drift"? |

so we're going to start our adventures in a brave new universe by doing a new version of a classic story.
I don't know whether or not to be surprised or disappointed. _________________ Ohh 'Eck! |

Absolutely amazing news! An ongoing title in the new timeline is exactly what I was hoping for. _________________

| Great news. This is what I was hoping for. The new take on "Where No Man Has Gone Before" should be interesting. Great job IDW. |

It's stories like The Doomsday Machine that worry me about this idea, because they rely on events that started long before the timeline divergence. At the time we're at in the new timeline the Doomsday machine is still nearly a decade away from where it attacked in the episode. And if it had be slowly wondering around local space surely its existence wouldn't come as a surprise? So it must have come in from somewhere far away, somewhere still a decade away, even if the exact limits of Federation space are slightly different after 25 years of divergence.
I can just about buy Where No Man Has Gone Before, because after those 25 years Starfleet’s mission priorities could have changed, so the Enterprise being sent out to the galactic barrier that much earlier seems plausible. Similarly the different astropolitical setup of the new timeline might prompt the Romulans to reappear sooner than they might of originally in Balance of Terror. But how can you explain events happening a decade earlier when they reply on natural cycles set millions of years previously or outside influences far outside the Federations sphere of influence and the changes the new timeline prompts.

Or just be allowed to publish the four novels which were pulled! If IDW, Paramount Interactive and, Wizkids are all now allowed to publish new stories set after the film why on earth cant Simon and Schuster!? _________________ Numerically challenged drone

i just love how people can analyize and pick apart a project by going off of a one paragraph description, and just jump the gun on everything. I'm waiting to see the finished product before picking it apart.
I'm sure Orci and IDW have issued these same concerns the fans keep bringing up on all the various message boards i've hit lately, regarding this title. |

So, is this book simply titled "Star Trek" or "Star Trek Ongoing"? I'm seeing conflicting reports. _________________

I go along with 8of5...while it's really, really good to have some new comics, I don't really get the point why S&S can't publish new books (the explanation was not to interfere with ST XII) but there will be a new comic series... _________________ 'Play with friends, be a Hero!'
