| I read about there being two TMNT books on the Technodrome and I remember it coming from a reliable source, but I don't remember what that source was. |

Not too sure. I think many of the stories in the original series could be rated as PG, so I think it'll be fine. Dark 'n gritty doesn't have to be all sex and violence, which I think are two of the most important factors for rating. I think there's plenty of leeway for darker kinds of stories within the boundaries of a PG rating. _________________

Yeah. Batman: The Animated Series was limited by children's television standards and was about as dark as a rainbow covered in jellybeans and ponies on a day with a smiley sun. Adam West was darker than that trash. |

That's definitely cause for concern, but for now I'd still sit in a, "Let's wait and see what they mean by that" camp on that.

True, especially because Batman: The Animated Series was about a guy who uses swords and other cutting weapons to maim and kill his ninja enemies. Amazing how big of a bullet that show dodged with censors there.
It doesn't work, really. It's like when one of the producers of TMNT Part Five was at San Diego a couple years ago tried to defend the forthcoming PG-rating of the movie, he said "Well, the last Harry Potter movie was only PG, and look how much that got away with!" ... yes, because that's clearly about ninjas that fight and kill each other with martial arts weapons.
Name one good ninja movie that's PG-rated and I'll buy into that train of thought, I say. |

I can name one, and it's a Turtles movie. But our definitions of "good" on that subject matter varies because you hate subplots about teenagers and your Kryptonite is pizza or something. Not that it matters. If it came out today it'd probably be "PG-13" due to a reference to God and there being actual fighting in it. Going back to Batman, same would go for all that overt killing in Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, a PG murder mystery featuring a villain with a blade for an arm and lots of ninja smoke tricks.
Otherwise, that's a trick question. All the best martial arts movies are "Not Rated" because they came out through DVD-only releases that went direct to the bargain bin bad dub and all!
Does "dark" necessarily mean "violence," though? Sure, I love reading issues where the Turtles get into big brawls against Foot Ninja and stuff and, when I was 12, the Turtles were validated through the blood they put in the old comics. Well, at least validated to me. I was still a nerd for reading comics at all, according to everyone else who didn't really give a crap about comics.
Nowadays, though? Give me 49th Street Stompers or Shell of the Dragon if I wanna show someone how cool TMNT really is. Still some really cool fights and not much in the way of "dark blood of dark dark adult dark stuff yeah" going on. Yeah, I know, in "Stompers" it was specifically asked of Leonardo that a non-lethal contest be held, but it was still "dark" and whatnot.
Heck, pretty much everything in Kevin Eastman's 25th Anniversary TMNT book was great and varied in the amount of darkness and I didn't really see a whole lot of actual killing going on in that book. I'm pretty sure we share a similar opinion on Kevin Eastman's TMNT work and it isn't like it was always "Kill-o-Clock" for Leonardo, whose katana were gorilla taped to his forearms to cause maximum killage in everyday life.
"Now, Leonardo, for our honor be sure to point at everyone you speak to. Otherwise this comic won't be dark enough."
"Yes, Sensei."
Okay, so I'm rambling now. You can see my point, though. Sure, I'd love for Michelangelo to bash a skull into mush every three panels to re-live my youth and feel as if I were reading Bodycount for the first time all over again thinking, "See?! They're not just some dumb kid's cartoon that I still secretly like! Wait, did I say that out loud?" But, nowadays Fun with Guns seems to be a better tone in the long run now that I'm actually old enough to be the target audience for Bodycount. |

None. Can someone point me to where IDW said their turtles comic would be PG only? Why would it be only PG? |

| I would have loved to have read the original Body Count storyline. I've been reading reviews and a friend told me it was intense. Anyone read this? |

Wow that's crazy. Why would IDW make a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic that has to be appropriate for kids that aren't even teenagers yet? I thought this was going to have balls.
Count me out. |

I think you're being a little premature with your assessment of things. My understanding is that it'll be similar in tone to what Mirage were doing originally, just within their own continuity. It's a comic that parents might want to screen before giving to their kids, but is ultimately readable (if not enjoyable) by people of all ages. Kinda like Batman. Kids can read it, though they're not exactly going to understand everything they read in there thematically, they're just there to see their favorite hero beat the snot out of a bad guy. You give the same comic to an adult and it's going to resonate on an entirely different level. _________________ Comic writer and artist.

Needs to be quoted again. The original series was able to do this well, and hell, even the Archie series was able to do damn thing in this area, especially after the comic series became its own thing and stopped being a mere adaptation of the 80s toon.
Even as some one who has read Bodycount, I don't need to see something like that in order to have a "mature" comic series. Just stick to that nice balance that Mirage was able to pull off so well in the past, and I think most of us will be pleased.
On that type of topic...any chances that perhaps we may see the Renee the Timestress again? |

As long as the idw comic can have comics at a level of ninja action like in #1 and #10 and the Leonardo special I'm happy. |
