I am really excited at the possibility of IDW doing a TOS mini-series set in a time before James T. Kirk becames the captain of the Enterprise. A storyline featuring Captain Robert April, Captain Christopher Pike, a young Lt. Spock and even Jim Kirk's dad, Commander George Samuel Kirk.

I was a big fan of Marvel's Star Trek Early Voyages and also the Robert April novels by Diane Carey, but I think there still a lot to learn about the early adventures of the USS Enterprise.

Agreed, of the two I'd prefer Pike in a semi-direct continuation fo Early Voyages. But I'd be happy with anything pre-Kirk. It's not that I don't like Kirk and the gang, but they have already had hundreds of stories, Pike and April have had almost nothing. And that period of time is so unexplored.

Early Voyages made alot of references to the ongoing conflict with the Tholians (which was brought to an end in the series) it would be a great to see IDW expand on that with April before Pike and get to show of the Tholians abit. It would also be cool to join some of the dots between Enterprise and TOS in that period.

I liked Earyl Voyages too. But concerning Star Trek Comics Marvel has always done a very good job, not only in featuring existing characters but also expanding the whole universe and I hope IDW will take up this track, since their comics have the same creative basis of expanding the Star Trek Universe.

It had been a tragedy when Marvel had to stop Early Voyages in the mid of an interesting story. Maybe it's possible to end this one (I know there would be some legal aspects) and even realize some of the stories Marvel planned but never released Very Happy

Count me in too! Seeing a Pike Era comic from IDW would be amazing. I never read the Marvel series but would love to see what this company could do with those characters.

concerning the Early Voyages Series, just check out this link, there you'll find everything to look over a bit:

Unfortunately the series stopped in the middle of an adventure Sad
