Posted: Thu Nov 05, 2009 2:22 pm Post subject: Drawing Competition - NOVEMBER'S THEME |
|
|
Greetings folks! Time to get your pencils sharpened...
October's winner was Reeves - Congratulations Sir, a wonderful if slightly disturbing entry...
Reeves - A Playbot Entry
So as winner, Reeves picks November's theme, and his previous piece should help as inspiration... well, if you're that way inclined.
This Month's Theme: Take any advertisement's picture and redraw it for Transformers; DVD covers, posters, CD covers...
You get the idea? The iconic pic for the film Platoon where the army guy is on his knees screaming up at
the heavens - Draw springer doing that! Or the Terminator 2 DVD cover of Schwarzenegger with half human face half cyborg - howabout Pretender Grimlock's half human face half inner robot face?
So, as ever, here's the small print:
1. Art should be designed as a "pin-up."
2. Completed pieces must be returned to idwtf.drawing.comp@gmail.com no later then 22:00 GMT on 30th of November, 2009.
3. Final submitted pieces must be sized to 850 X 1300 pixels, with a resolution of 72 Dpi, and in RGB mode. (scanner permitting)
4. Images must be in .jpg format
5. I cannot Stress This Enough: Files are to have the following naming convention; Entrant name - Character Name (I.E. Richter - Dynobots.jpg)
6. You can add text to the piece.
7. Finished pieces are to be inked, with shading allowed.
8. Pictures ARE NOT to be displayed anywhere until they have been posted on the IDW forums. After this, you are free to pimp your work anywhere you like.
9. Coloured images are not to be displayed until voting is over.
10. Collaborations are permitted, but only for the "inking" process. Any assistance must be identified.
11. All emails to idwtf.drawing.comp@gmail.com will receive a reply confirmation within 24 hours. If you have not heard back from me after 36 hours, please re-send the entry. I would rather receive it 40 times than miss it!
12 *NEW RULE* In case of a tie at the end of the voting period, I will cast the deciding vote.
13. *NEWER RULE* Names of entrants will not be displayed till after voting has closed, so please don't spoil the vote by saying 'ooh that's mine' - We'll cover up any signatures on the artwork too I guess, if everyone's ok with that too. _________________ *All my nonsense tapped out here is okay to print* |

How are you going to hide the entrants' names that are in the actual file names when people click on the image? _________________ Life is wonderful when you lack the capacity for sanity.

Guess what... I won't put the file that people send me straight on to my host without renaming them first!
Geez, this feels like Call of the Primitives - "Of course! The reverse switch! Why didn't I think of that?!" _________________ *All my nonsense tapped out here is okay to print* |

does that mean you're less then thrilled with the new theme? like a said before,if people want to throw suggestions in and we all vote or something then changing the theme's no problem with me. these comps give me a reason to sit down quietly for a bit and concentrate on something besides work or kids or money etc. i never do these to choose the new theme. so, before anybody starts drawing, feel free to make suggestions as long as its ok with zhgingaah.
for what its worth though, this theme's pics dont have to be EXACT copies. on my da page ive got a pic of 'the evil dead 3' cover with transformers and its not an exact copy. just so long as its recognisable to the original/has the same 'essense'. _________________ http://reeves83.deviantart.com |

I'd be more interested if the format wasn't 'comic style' only. _________________ **Hitler built a fortress around Europe, but he forgot to put a roof on it. -- Winston Churchill**

I've seen your DA page and I think your style would fit the comp just fine. It is, after all, why I picked your illustration to accompany the Writing comp. _________________ I dont know you and yet I feel a kinship...kinship.

Alas, Rule #7 and #9 of the drawing comp would have DQ'd that Broadside pic!
I'll still be around to critique and vote though, so no worries. _________________ **Hitler built a fortress around Europe, but he forgot to put a roof on it. -- Winston Churchill**
