Per Hermes website, Buck Rogers v3 was supposed to come out in August, v1 of the Sundays in September, and the Phantom v1 in September.
Per the listing at Amazon, LOA v4 was supposed to be out by now, along with the rest. _________________ MB |

According to the November release list Rip Kirby Volume 1 shall be out on 18 November: http://www.idwpublishing.com/news/article/874/
No news of Little Orphan Annie Volume 4, but Amazon says it'll be shipped in "2 to 5 weeks", meaning December I guess. |

Yup. Polly and her Pals.
Kitchen Sink started a reprint series of it. Atleast 4 volumes were planned, but only 2 came out:
1. 1926-27
2. 1927-29 (The Surrealist Period)
The first volume from IDW covers 1925 thru 1927. Each volume will be 3 years of Sundays. Now, per Wikipedia, the Sundays ran until 1958. Will IDW continue thru that? Also, these will reprint only the Sundays. There WAS a daily strip, but Starret turned it over to assistants in the 30s and it ended in the 40s. Will IDW reprint the dailies, or just ignore them as not being that good? _________________ MB |

Someone on the TCJ message board pointed out that IDW is coming out with another strip reprint in January that no one had previous heard about: Krazy & Ignatz in Tiger Tea.
Now, this is a reprint of a sequence from the Krazy Kat dailies, which FBI hasn't done (so far they've been focusing on the Sundays, with 3 volumes to go, and other then a single one-off reprinting of some of the dailies, has not embarked on an effort to do them all). This volume is 122 pages, hardcover, for about $12. Not familiar enought with the dailies to know when this sequence was done or how long it was.
It seems to be like their upcoming "Bringing Up Father" collection of a one-off reprint of a particular storyline. Its interesting they titled it "Krazy & Ignatz", same as the FBI collections. I assume this was done because Hearst probably owns the name "Krazy Kat". Since FBI seems to have stacked out doing all of Herriman's stuff, I wonder what their feels were on IDW encroaching on their territory. _________________ MB |

Dick Tracy vol. 10 is in Amazon but without a picture and with a release date of June. I was hoping they'd keep a schedule to three or four times a year but not to be, I guess.
Also Archie comic strip reprints is in Amazon but without a picture and a release date of June.
Also a volume of Dan Decarlo's stories. I thought IDW was doing comic strips and Dark Horse was doing the Archie comic books.
IDW has a reprint of Krazy Kat, the tiger tea dailies that caught me by surprise.
Any word on Little Orphan Annie volume four actual release date?
Wondering about Rip Kirby. I'm sure it's a beautiful package but does Raymond's writing hold up? In Flash Gordon, it doesn't. Pictures are gorgeous, but the writing is not good. |

I think I'd just be happy with even two volumes a year of Tracy and Annie, as long as they came out on something resembling a regular schedule.
Fantagraphics has done a good job making sure that the Peanuts reprints show up on a regular schedule - a book in April/May, one in August/September and the box sets in November/December. Of course, Fantagraphics isn't perfect - one only has to take a look at the Popeye reprint series.
Perhaps that's what they are attempting to do with Tracy, One volume is due sometime next month. If June is the next ship date, then that would be two volumes a year. If they could keep to that shipping schedule (June and December), I'd be okay with that. At least one would know when the books were coming out!
No word on Annie Volume 4, though. I'm waiting rather impatiently as well, especially since I never read the Fantagraphics reprint series from a few years back that much (all?) of this upcoming book overlaps with.
Regarding Kirby, I'm kind of blind buying that book, as I'm not overly familiar with the series. I was somewhat on the fence about the series, mostly due to financial reasons but the cancellation of Gemstone's EC Archives allowed me to give the series a try. |

Popeye 4 is out.
No idea when Captain Easy will be out.
Another series that has dragged is Walt & Skeezix. The fourth volume is now promised for mid next year, and they claim to have 'fixed' whatever the problems that have delayed this series. V4 was supposed to come out last year (they've pretty much been doing 1 volume a year). No idea what these 'problems' have been.
I knew IDW was doing the Archie comic strips. Didn't know about DH doing the Archie comics. Personally don't care for Archie (tho I have enjoyed the "Little Archie" stuff, in the same way one can enjoy John Stanley's work). Now, if they reprint Archie's superhero stuff (even the campy stuff from the 60s), I get that. Was really hoping they continue their Fly reprints, but supposedly Simon now have the rights to The Fly and the Lancelot Strong Shield. Would really like to see a reprint of the stuff they did under the "Archie Adventure Comics", later Radio/Mighty/Red Circle stuff. _________________ MB |

I'm a bit miffed at Fantagraphics right now, since they've shipped copies of Popeye to places like Amazon, yet those of us who've ordered through their local comic shops are left waiting, with no word on when it will show up.
I'd buy Popeye from Amazon, but then my comic shop would have to eat the cost of the book they've already ordered for me. Fantagraphics has been pretty good about making sure that the Peanuts books show up about the same time in both comic shops and regular book outlets. Makes me wonder why they've dropped the ball on the Popeye volume.
Regarding the Walt and Skeezix issue, there was some questions regarding Drawn and Quarterly's rights to reprint the strip. Rather than risk a lawsuit with Tribune Media (the owners of the Gasoline Alley strip), D+Q decided to hold off on more reprints until the issue was worked out.
If the Walt and Skeezix issue has finally been worked out, that's great as I'd love to see new volumes of this series. I wouldn't expect to see more than one volume a year though, as D+Q is a relatively small publisher. I've been buying their Moomin reprints, which are excellent though not to everyone's taste. And, so far, they've only one Moomin volume a year with the last volume due in 2010 for a total of five volumes. |

It was never clear to me the cause of the delay of W&S. Over on the TCJ message board the D&Q guys tried to hint it was TM threatening lawsuits, but then someone from TM posted that IF Tribune was doing this, it would be him doing it, and he didn't authorize it nor was aware of them doing it.
Looking at the prior volumes, they all came out once a year.
While D&Q is small, I hope they put out more then one volume in the various John Stanley Library series each year. I am hoping they do 2-3 volumes a year each from their Nancy, Melvin Monster, 13 going on 18 so they can finish them and move onto other JLS volumes. _________________ MB |
