One thing I really hope which continues are the themed covers. The movie poster homage for Countdown, the ship silhouettes from Crew and the "progression" through Spock's life for Reflections. It's all great stuff.

It's great until they do multiple covers and you're the only trekkie who gets comics at your comic shop so you get one odd cover out *glares at stupid Joe Corroney cover amongst the nice David Messina ones in his Intelligence Gathering collection*

The themed covers can be problematic. The aforementioned Intelligence Gathering is a great example. I got all Corroney covers with the exception of issue #5. Why? Because IDW didn't commission a Corroney cover for that issue.

Then there's the case of Transformers' All Hail Megatron. After spoiling us with the awesome Hutch covers for a year, they decide to make the Hutch covers the incentive covers for the Coda issues. Sure, they will more than likely be in the trade, but that's not the point. Cover galleries are nice, but it does not replace having the actual issue with your desired cover and people who purchase the monthlies should not have to buy the trade to get a copy of their favourite cover.

While, for the most part, I think variant covers are superfluous, I think if any form of variant cover needs to be eliminated, it's the incentive covers. A lot of the time, the incentive covers are awesome and limiting the quantity in such a manner really screws the consumer.

The writers talk more about what they're going to do for the book, as well as Nero, here, courtesy of Trekmovie.com

Good thing I found your posted link, Riker. I was about to create a thread for the Jones/Johnson interview. Really looking forward to reading the upcoming Nero series and for the first time since the '89 Batman movie came out I'll actually be buying a movie adaptation. (With Messina doing the artwork--along with deleted scenes--I can't resist).

Also, pretty excited by a possible post-Nemesis TNG series. I really liked Countdown, so I'm sure whatever this writing team does for IDW will be good.

Yeah, ever since Countdown I thought they need to have TNG stories that fill the gap between Nemesis and Countdown as well as post-Countdown stories...they need to be told! Very Happy

We also need a Star Trek: Titan series with Captain Riker Wink
