Just wanted to say hello to all the people who joined over the last few days! I've been posting here a long while now and its only been a few people who have posted here on a regular basis - you know who you are!- and Im delighted that so many have joined and we can have some stimulating conversation about our favourite vampires with souls,ex-watchers,ex-gods,ex-karaoke singin demons,ex-streetfighter/lawyers....

Just wanted to ask a request...

I couldnt be on the board for a few days, but when I got back and read some of the posts I noticed a lot of 'fights'. In the two years I've been posting here we've never had a board fight. Its just not what we are about. We are all here because we love ANGEL the series, its characters and its universe. Passionately. So for the sake of the board, and the friendliness that it's always had - could things like 'ships' be kept outta it?Manys a board has been ruined by it.

I dont want to go back to the bad old days of

-Angel vs Spike - who is better?!
- Whose ship is better fights - Ships like Angel/Buffy, Spike/Buffy,Angel/Cordelia, Angel/Lorne (yes they are out there!)

I am not referring to anyone in particular when I write this, just to be clear.It's just that I love Angel, and I love posting on this board, and I dont want it to become an unfriendly place.

Hope people dont mind me posting this, but I just thought it needed to be said.

Hey there. I've been posting here from the beginning of the Angel line too, as I hope you remember.

You probably know I'm a big Spike fan. I don't make any secret of it. This is something that can get you piled on like a ton of bricks in some places and one thing I've really loved about this board is the fact that it hasn't happened here. We were all here because we love Angel the series and all the characters in it - or at least, I know I was and still am. Spike might be my favourite character but I love all of them and want great story for all of them. There's been no character bashing of any description up to now and it's been great and very refreshing (and quite a contrast to some of the stuff I've seen on the Dark Horse message board since talk about BtVS season 8 began).

Like you, I've noticed the change since the announcement of an official season 6. I pretty much knew it would happen but it made me sad to see it. As you say, people come piling in thinking that they can influence Brian or Joss into giving them what they want. As we've seen over the weekend, all this results in is distancing Brian from the fans. Why would he want to come and post here if he has people actually threatening him? I really hope it won't happen again, just as I hope that people who have particular agendas will stay inside the designated thread.

For instance, you can't blame people for squeeing about Spike in a thread that's dedicated to Spike: Shadow Puppets. And in fact, one reason why that particular poster was so out of order (and another one I've noticed this morning) is because he blatantly said he didn't like Spike and wasn't going to read either Asylum or Shadow Puppets in that particular thread. No wonder Brian was incredibly pissed off.

On the other hand, squeeing about Spike to the exclusion of other characters - or for that matter suggesting he be booted off the show altogether, as someone did or coming along and saying how much they dislike Wesley or whatever - is inappropriate for the thread discussing AtS season 6. I would hope that people will tailor their comments a bit better to the thread they're in and for goodness sake at least try to be positive. We're lucky to be getting this series. We're incredibly lucky that Brian is writing it, and I'm another person who doesn't want to see the board descend into squabbles between rival 'shipper factions or whatever (though I'll happily talk Spangel till the cows come home in the appropriate thread).

I don't really know how hands on the mods are here but it may be that it's basically up to us to police ourselves so I hope this thread will make people stop and think. Thanks for starting it.

Yep me too, i've also been here for the two years since the comics were released, altough under a different name(Seth).

This was pretty much my fear with the announcement of season6, before there were fans that had also bought the previous comics, and were pretty much happy with what they got. Now it's often people that just want to make demands.
When the shows were on, i liked Spuffy as my main ship, now i'm pretty much neutral, to whatever Joss,Brian will cook up.
If you think this board has gotten bad, just look over at darkhorse's forum which is pretty much filled with Spike,Angel haters. Alot of Scooby-fanboys,girls.
And ofcourse other boards were there are alot of flamers,bashers and such, some have even come here.
Some thing that has seemed to get really popular these days is bashing Spike, mosty haters that didn't get their way in season6,7.

I also think it's awesome that Brian sometimes posts, but this also means that some fans will try to demand something of him.
Instead of having a civil conversation.
Just think of the madness,chaos the main-creator Joss lives in, i do not envy that guy.
But it does seem that Joss has learned a way to not to let it get to him.
I think Joss loves ALL his characters, some just get the spotlight a little more. And i also believe that he's very fond of Spike, his amazing development on the shows speak volumes about it, plus the way he said "There goes my boy" or something like that on the commentary of Chosen when Spike burns up.

Well, now i'm off to go see Spiderman3, woohoo

While I haven't been posting since the beginning I have been here a while and I agree that the recent increase in posters has lead to some tensions and that's why I haven't posted in the last few days.

Maybe it will all 'calm down' once the 'novelty' has worn off.

Some new folks on here think that via this board they have a direct line to 'the powers that be' and are going to 'mik that' for all it's worth.

When posters realise that isn't going to be the case they'll soon loose interest.

Well some folks love a row it seems!

I've been here since before the boards move too, and yes, things have 'sped up' quite considerably since then, but at least it shows fans are still passionate about things, rather then just rotting away with apathy like on some other posting boards.

Just got to learn to not let things get too heated I suppose.

I really agree, on this especially Angel vs. Spike or Bangel vs. Spuffy fights have been done over and over and over. Everyone has their favourites. I'm a Bangel/Angel fan, but I don't dislike Spike. I have however got some strong opinions on the character and on all of them and I don't mean to upset anyone, because, well, everyone has their opinions. Just my share.

Of course that's part of the problem, I suppose - that one person's opinion that they feel entitled to is another person's character bashing.

It's a very fine line sometimes, especially when people feel so passionately about these characters.

However, I think we can probably all agree that if someone has only negative things to say about a character and doesn't balance it with some positive things about them, that's bashing.

It's the same with 'ships really. Personally, I think they all had good and bad points (same with the characters) and I enjoyed them all, but somehow or other, when the talk gets too 'shippy, people seem to have this terrible urge to bash other 'ships in order to promote their own.

It really gets me down. I'm hoping there won't be any 'ships at all in AtS season 6, except friendships.
